DeMarte diagnosed the killer with Borderline Personality Disorder. That was the first time it was brought up in court. The defense team knew she was going to do that from pre-trial hearings. That is why they had Dr. Geffner in the ready for the surrebuttal. That is all his testimony should be about.

Why can't you wait for his testimony before you begin discrediting the man? Then you go on and argue with another poster, accusing him of idolizing him.

I question the lack of injuries she had. If she used a kitchen knife the handle would have to be slippery and it didn't look like Travis's knives had any kind of finger holds. Another reason, I think in her small little mind she believed she could kill him in the shower, turn on the water make the blood go away and pack up killing kit and no one would be the wiser.

    NENNO v. STATE
The question about appellant's statement was not designed to show the truth of the statement contained in the document but to impeach Dr. Geffner by attacking the basis for his opinion. The State wanted to undermine Dr. Geffner's opinion by showing that he relied upon specific statements made by appellant to formulate that opinion despite other information (upon which he also claims to have relied) that showed appellant telling a different story.

Eric Charles NENNO, Appellant, v. The STATE of Texas
    No. 72313.
    -- June 24, 1998

The State wanted to undermine Dr. Geffner's opinion by showing that he relied upon specific statements made by appellant to formulate that opinion despite other information (upon which he also claims to have relied) that showed appellant telling a different story.
You mischaracterize these documents. The defendant is appealing on the basis that the prosecutor brought into evidence a document that had been ruled inadmissible, through questions to Dr. Geffner in an attempt to impeach or discredit his testimony.
It doesn't say Geffner was impeached. That is your summation, and you are in error. I'm not going into that whole trial, because this is not the Nenno thread.

I can't imagine how scared he must have been for him, to be trying to escape while someone he loved/cared for (and probably considered the feelings mutual) turned on him like that I If he was in his right state of mind, and not out of it in some way due to shock, he was probably TERRIFIED trying to get away... which he was probably doing, due to the wounds being on his rear. Right! It seems like she runs the show over there on the defense table, so I wouldn't be he least bit surprised.

Same here. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I just don't see what he could possibly say that would rehabilitate her position at this point in any way. She has so screwed herself beyond screwed. She has lied to everyone, including the jury! How can any one base any kind of real diagnosis/opinion on someone who clearly lies as easily and naturally as the rest of us breathe? I just wanna know what in the hell this guy is gonna come up with.

I second that... or 25th it by the time I got around to responding, lol. That has to be one of the most creepy looks I have seen on anyone give, ever. VERY reminiscent of Charles Manson. The person who said that she reminded them of him way back when in the thread had that shit pegged! Sadly, I imagine she had something of a similar sort of intense/piercing look on her face the very last time Travis got his last glimpse of it... unbelievable.

NO remorse whatsoever! Not a shred... not even fake remorse. Anything. Nothing. Even when Nurmi tried to coax it out of her, leading her dumb ass horse-face to the water, she wasn't trying to drink... nada. She simply does NOT feel the least bit bad about what she has done it seems, doesn't feel she did anything wrong it seems (to me)... just remorseful that she got caught, that her plan didn't work out as simply as she planned. i guess you have to have a working heart for remorse. She came unequipped.

I guess these are the questions we will never get answers to, which sucks (for us, but more so his family/friends)... cuz Lordy knows she will never tell the truth about them! Not to mention, even if she did, who would believe her after all the lies she has told!? She is the "girl who cried fog", you can't believe a word that comes out of her mouth now. it should just be sewn shut.

Sick or not (which I have no doubt that she is in her warped ass head) aren't crimes - multiple stabbing specially - common for wanting to inflict pain? Due to the up closeness, personal level involved in stabbing someone plus the anger and desire to make that person suffer that drives the stabbing... isn't that what generally leads the police towards the people closest to them? Is there some kind of mentality (I'm not sure if that's the right word) behind it?

Did I make this fact up in my head - which i admit, is entirely possible - or did I read somewhere that due to the darkened coloring of the blood on that carpet that it was believed that it was arterial blood, something along those lines? Maybe the amount? I seem to be in my own fog here =/

I have always thought that there were many kernels of truth mixed in her lies, also. I believe the ones about him crawling, begging her to get him help, and not feeling his legs. I think they are fucking heart wrenching and beyond sad to think about. imagine the person attacking you is the only one you can look to for the help you desperately need? Completely unimaginable.

I will be the first to admit, I really have no clue, I'm honestly curious about that. I dunno where I got the percentage idea at, but does anyone know?

Her pictures creep me out. much like her they have no life in them. They look off somehow... am I the only one who thinks that?

If that's true - and I have my doubts about anything coming from HLN - she is even more heinous than i thought. talk about kicking a man while he is down!

I guess maybe they could be result of a struggle, seems more like the reasonable case... but, in this case seems like reason goes out the window and the worst possible scenario always seems to be what went down, so you never know. We will probably never know. All that I do know is that this poor man went thru hell. Even if he was a womanizing sex-fiend (which i don't believe) he did NOT deserve what happened to him. I think he was a typical guy whose sex life was complicated by his religion, one who met the wrong person. one who zeroed in on his issues, if you will, with sex/church and used that to manipulate/trap him in a relationship of sorts after their actual relationship faltered. When her threats or whatever finally stopped working she put an end to him... either to stop him from revealing who she truly was to their friends... or to move on cuz "if she can't have him, no one can".

He died in one of the most heinous matters I have heard of in a long time, fighting desperately for his life, for no reason other than Jodi ruins everything. I believe she went there that night with a last ditch effort/plan to try and either convince him to take her to Cancun/back into his good graces, or plainly get rid of him. I don't for one SECOND believe it was self-defense in any way, shape, or form. All of his exes that they have had on the witness stand and not a single ONE has brought up an incident of domestic violence... ANY of them! It seemed, from all the different people that have spoken of him, like he was an all around well liked, good guy, who respected the women he was with and has a bright future to look forward to. one that was sniffed out by a vindictive monster with no real future, aside form the one he could afford her, to look forward to. I don't believe anything involving the pedo accusations, at all. Sure, there were incidents (if you can even call 'em that) like that butt grabbing here and random boner there, but who hasn't had that in their life? They are so normal! People are HUMAN (except maybe Jodi - I seriously have my doubts) and can't be perfect at all times. Shoot, I know that I have made way worse mistakes in MY life, crap.

IMO, his ONLY mistake was continuing on any type of relationship with Jodi, & not trusting his gut instincts (if there were any). had he not met her, I think he would have maybe struggled with sex/religion, but otherwise led a normal and productive life. Fuck her for denying him that and his family of him all cuz she is a selfish, unfeeling monster!

Hopefully the jury sees through all of the mess that the defense has tried to much up his image with and gives him, and his family, the justice they deserve. it's been a long time coming.

    /end horribly long post!

That poor guy couldn't think of fighting back--only of getting away from her and the pain. To use Arias's stolen words, he was in mortal terror and probably in a fog of disbelief that it was happening to him.
I agree Ian, especially with the bold!

Of course we will never know exactly the sequence of events, but it has always perplexed me as to why he went over to the sink? I have imagined a scenario in which he was stabbed in the chest first, and somehow went to the sink where the mirror is, in order to look and see if it was really true, what had just happened. There may have been a pause, time for realization, before she began stabbing him further, and this would be where it really sunk in that he was in big trouble, and tried to stop what was happening, receiving the defensive wounds.

It's not logical, of course, to go to a sink, or mirror when you have been brutally stabbed in the chest, but I doubt he was able to think logically, and I could [only] imagine myself doing that if I found myself in a situation that suspended belief. Also the ME said the chest wound would be fatal without medical attention, but it would not have incapacitated him.

This is, of course, conjecture and speculation.

This is where I start wondering if he was really shot first. I know that there is a lot of evidence against that claim, but the spray of blood in the sink does look what would happen if you had blood in your nasal cavity spilling into your mouth, etc. I understand that with all of the stabbing he was eventually going to be coughing up blood anyway, but the way it seems to me is that he got shot very close to the sink area, before he became completely incapacitated took a look in the mirror coughing up blood and spitting in in the sink area, and probably getting stabbed in the back at the same time. From there he probably started really being affected by the gunshot. I think he could have still thrown up his hands in somewhat of an attempt at self defense before being totally incapacitated. Unless Jodi decides to tell the truth someday we will ever know what really happened.i respect the ME and am not trying to pretend I know more about the human body than he does, but I'm pretty sure there is a chance someone shot in the head could manage to be "with it" long enough to realize what is going on and try and stop it. I do not believe that he would be able to form sentences (like I'm going to kill you bitch) or try and tackle/fight someone, but I don't think he got shot and just flop to the floor and convulse either. Who knows though.

Being a supporter of JA says at least one of the following three things about you:

    2. You hate men
    3. You like to get paid and have no integrity

JAII proves it -- there is not one single exception.

Yes! That too! Although the 49 seconds between the seated torso and leg shot in the shower, and the shot of the ceiling above the shower makes me think otherwise. It is, of course, possible to get up from said seated position, leave the shower, and go to sink, and be attacked there, in 49 seconds. Then a further 13 seconds before he is profusely bleeding, purportedly being dragged (Jodi foot pic).

    Spring Break

I've suggested that we keep only Travis in our thoughts this week. In the meantime, Tanisha has asked people to join her in a world-wide fast and prayer today.

    In memory of Travis Alexander:

I thought the fast was on Sunday May 5, right before the jury deliberates?

Jodi's testimony is that she rented a car to save wear and tear on her own car. Then why drive in excess of a hundred miles to rent a car? That makes no logical sense to me. Also, did she leave her car at the rental place? Anybody know? In the past when I've rented cars, I've kept my vehicle at home, where it is less likely to be broken in to.

Considering all the reasons people rent vehicles, I can't fathom a single situation where it is advantageous to rent a car so far from home (excluding airport car rentals, of course).

In regards to the gun, we have recently purchased 2 guns along with holsters, and tons of ammo. My husband is very analytical and went through a lengthy process of choosing his weapons. He watched a gajillion videos and read numerous articles on the Internet along with recording many gun tv shows onto our DVR. In addition, we rented weapons at the local gun ranges to get a feel for the weapons.

I recognize my husband may not be the norm, because I sometimes think he suffers from analysis paralysis (lol), but when I look at Travis' closet and the almost excessive organization of that closet, I think that Travis may share that similar trait. I don't envision him randomly purchasing a gun. He would evaluate the weapons before making such a purchase. Was there any history on his computer on the subject of guns?

Also a new gun owner goes target practice shooting a good bit when initially purchasing a weapon, which means you buy a lot of ammo. We easily utilize between 100 and 200 rounds of ammo every time we go shooting at the gun range.

There was no ammo found in his home. All the evidence, or lack thereof, tells me he did NOT own a gun. If you believe this sole fact, Jodi had to have brought the gun. In my mind, that's premeditation right there.

Given that she is an admitted liar, I personally would not try to dissect her testimony to determine which is lies and which is truth. I would discount her testimony altogether. Given that mindset, I would have no choice but to conclude that she went to Mesa with the intention of murdering Travis. In addition, all of the evidence supports that theory. Thoughts?

    Good Morning everyone

Never having heard a closing argument before I am curious how it will go:
    1. Does defense go first?
    2. Then Juan?
    3. Does defense get to rebut Juan?
    4. Can either party object during closing arguments?
    5. Does either party get to speculate or embellish in their arguments or does it have to strictly follow the evidence?

    TIA

She had a relative--a half brother or brother-in-law living in Redding, CA. She left her car at his place and he drove her to the rental agency at the airport. Assume she did the same thing in reverse when she returned from Utah.

Didn't Arias say she rented the Ford Focus because her own car was a gas guzzler and not in good enough shape to make the trip? I think so.

The rest! I don't know anything about guns 'cept my late father was some kind of a sharp shooting champion way back. My late brother-in-law in Texas used to make, (load?) his own bullets. He had a bench in his garage and a device for doing the work.

I sooo agree with you about this question! That was a great question that shows that she just made up the who pedo lie out of thin air. She had to come up with some explanation for coming back in the house after her well thought out reason for having been "asked" to come over and help him with his Christmas decorations. Then while creating this story, she wanted to make it such an innocent reason for her returning (forgetting the item that Travis had given her). She was also certain to create a story that was soooo far away from even the slightest hint of stalking. She just so damned concerned that he would think she didn't appreciate the gift that she went back in to get it! All she got for this oh so thoughtful gesture has scarred her forevermore.....lying bitch! If I were on this jury there is no way in hell that I could believe any part of the pedo story after hearing the answer to this jurors question! She has been her own worst enemy by taking the stand, I am so glad she decided to testify.

I can't believe her hands were not all scratched or SOMETHING after such a brutal attack. She truly came out physically unscathed.

The defense does not get up again.
They stick to evidence they presented and tie it together.

Perhaps JA knew she was likely to be cut too during the slaughter so maybe she wore gloves? The kind like you use when you are shucking oysters? I am amazed her hands weren't cut more than they were.

Jillee - You will never be able to think like her. She is in a class all by herself. I tried like hell to figure out the sequence and the whole killing is just way too difficult to imagine. It's truly sickening to think of the way she carried this out, and her actions after killing TA floor me. That voicemail she left TA after he was dead is just pure madness and typical of the Stabby we have come to know. We can't and don't think like her, so every time I try to use logic and reason I realize it's futile. Using the finger she injured that day as an example of DV is going to bite her in the ass. After watching the interrogation videos and hearing her say she would use gloves if she was going to kill somebody I believe she actually did wear gloves. When she got cut she may have taken off the left one to avoid dripping her own blood. She may have wrapped it, then in her frenzy got careless, resulting in the palmprint on the wall. I don't recall hearing of her blood or fingerprints found anywhere else at the scene. She is no Einstein, but I think she was prepared in ways we will never know about. Trying to figure out how the killing went down can be maddening, but I never tire of reading the viewpoints of people on this thread.

Someone else probably answered, but I think that might be skin shrinkage. As it retracts it exposes the base of the nails & the roots of the hair. It's one of the signs they used to identify a vampire - so it's not surprising they found lots. Good idea, but I don't think that's what they're seeing in this photo. If that had caused it, all of the body hair would still look long & tapered at the tips (unless he'd shaved it himself in life). The stubble AnnieBelle & everyone were talking about was really short & a uniform length. It looked recently done but yeah guys, whether that's a commonly shaved area of the body or not, I'm not surprised you're confused by that shot. I can't figure it out. I was thinking maybe a weird angle involving the underarm area? The part on top to the left looks like it could be part of an arm? But I just cannot figure it out. There's usually another shot in close sequence that helps put it in context. Not this one. It's go me completely stumped!! NOW I get why you were having trouble with it!!

The longer she was on the stand, the more I despised her. She did not do herself any favors testifying. They really did not have any other choice then to put her on the stand. I'm sure she would never have NOT testified. She was loving being the STAR.

    Are there objections during closing?

It doesn't say Geffner was impeached. That is your summation, and you are in error. I'm not going into that whole trial, because this is not the Nenno thread.
    2. Cross-examination

In point of error four, appellant contends that the trial court erred in refusing to grant a mistrial after the prosecutor asked questions based upon an allegedly inadmissible document.   In cross-examining Dr. Robert Geffner, one of appellant's expert witnesses, the prosecutor attempted to introduce into evidence a document made by a colleague of Dr. Geffner.   The document was an interview with appellant and was one of the materials relied upon by Dr. Geffner in formulating his expert opinion.   Appellant objected that the document was hearsay, and the trial court sustained the objection.   Later, the prosecutor questioned Dr. Geffner concerning the contents of the document:

PROSECUTOR:  Doctor, State's Exhibit No. 99, would you tell the jury generally what State's 99 is?

WITNESS:     It's basically him talking about what he remembered from the night of the crime, what he told other people in general.

PROSECUTOR:  What did Eric Nenno tell your associate about what he remembered about the night?

Defense counsel objected, and the trial court sustained the objection.   No further relief was requested.   Later the prosecutor conducted more questioning concerning the colleague's report:

PROSECUTOR:  Also on direct examination you said that you considered it extremely important from your standpoint that he began by telling you or began the confession by saying that it was in a dream-like state?

WITNESS:    Not to me but to the police officer.

PROSECUTOR:  But you attached some significance to those particular words, the way that he used those words, that he was in a dream-like state when this occurred?

WITNESS:     I believe I said that people with frontal lobe problems do sometimes use that terminology when they've passed the threshold.   I think it was something along those lines.

PROSECUTOR:  But you find it significant then that he used that type of wording in making your assessment of the evidence that you're here to testify about today?

WITNESS:    That's one piece of it.   There is a lot of data.   That's one piece of it, yes.

PROSECUTOR:  In the interview that was done by your associate, Mr. Nenno basically gives a different view of what happened than he does in the confession, doesn't he?

Defense counsel then objected, but his objection was overruled.   The prosecutor continued:

    PROSECUTOR:  You can answer.

WITNESS:     I believe it was the same idea.

PROSECUTOR:  Didn't you tell us that as part of your evaluation that he said that he didn't remember anything about this offense after it happened?

WITNESS:    In the interview, yes.   Pretty much so.

PROSECUTOR:  That he didn't even remember where the body was placed?

It has been driving me nuts, since to first time I saw those photos. I think it's probably because it is a close up of a smaller area, and there aren't any reference points to put it in proper perspective.

I don't think he went to the sink to look at his injuries. I think that they struggled, he managed to break away from Jodi, and he went to the sink for a very simple reason.

He's disoriented, in shock, and losing blood pretty quickly. His mouth and nose are probably beginning to fill with blood, and he feels ill. Jodi is blocking the way to the toilet, and the sink was probably closer anyway. So he goes to the sink to cough up the blood, because in his mind he's hoping the attack is over.

Vignette: I think this is where Jody's "body slam" story comes into play. They had struggled over the knife, and Travis knocked it out of her hands, maybe even pushed her so that she fell. She may have been stunned or winded, and he gets to the sink, not really thinking of the danger of turning his back on her. Blood loss, shock, and the whole dying process can do that to a person.

Sad thing is, Jodi is trying to claim that Travis attacked her and made her mind scramble.

The real truth is that the only person who wasn't able to think or act in a logical way was Travis, because he was the one being attacked. He was the one who was so severely injured. And he is the one who died a tortured, painful death.
