Honestly, if this was only her 4th day sober and she came out to her sponsor with all that stuff, you can't really blame the person going to the police. You don't tell your whole life story the first week of meeting someone...you give it months and make sure you can trust them with your secrets!
maybe that's just me and my lack of trusting people, though...
i think cps makes a report to the police, but probably didn't have all the sex details - even if they did, all were 'consenting adults', so the only charges to be filed are technically delinquency of minors. probably not a super high priority for arrests in the scheme of daily coply activities.
I dunno. One of the things that (I think) works about AA or any 12-step is that when you do something terrible as a result of drugs/alcohol, you can't really talk about your feelings with the people you've victimized. So there's a sense of trust knowing that here is another person who has probably also done something terrible, and they seemed to have turned out okay. There's an inclination to unburden yourself of the guilt.
i think the 'proper' way to handle a blabby sponsee is to talk about their experience and encourage them to face their demons of their own volition, given that no one is currently being harmed or possibly harmed in the near future. if the children were still in the home, i probably would have contacted authorities... but since they had already been removed, i would probably work with my sponsee on getting sober and acknowledging how her actions put her in this situation and harmed her kids.
All I know is if some guy opens up to a sponsor at AA and says he ran over my kid one night when he was drunk I would sure hope somebody would tell somebody about it or at least encourage him to do the right thing and turn himself in.
Can you imagine being somebody like a priest who has to listen to so many horrible things and keep his mouth shut after years of that you have to stone cold it's just painstakingly awful

i will admit though that as a sponsor i would probably miss all the murder confessions because i would tell my sponsee right up front that while i encourage truthfulness and soul-searching, there are certain things like rape, murder and child abuse that i would have to report.
Maybe the AA sponsor saw Wetlands (ETA or am I thinking of the other one? there were 2 weird subtitled German teen girl/sex movies running at the same time a few mths back down here. One had a pretty weird mother/daughter relship happening) & basically reported the script with this mother & daughter's names switched for the main characters.
ETA nope I'm thinking of Little Thirteen.

I saw this on a cold case crime show a few years ago.
<snipped for space from the letter J Letson wrote to her victim, Katherine Foster>A written 4th Step at the request of her AA Sponsor and makings amends results in the arrest and murder conviction of Jamie Letson for a 30 year old cold case - 2010

Often, there is confusion if a 4th, 5th and 9th Step in Alcoholics Anonymous is considered "protected" under the law. Jamie Kellam Letson did such an Alcoholics Anonymous "spiritual" cleansing in Mobile, Alabama Alcoholics Anonymous Service Area 1 (http://www.step12.com/alabama.html) when she confessed to her AA Sponsor in 2002 and went to the grave site of Katherine Foster to make an Alcoholics Anonymous Step 9, making amends to the one she killed. It took six more years for the Sponsor to come forward and report it to the police who arrested Letson in 2008. During the trial it was said that the confession was faked and coerced out of Letson by her Sponsor because she had to confess something (4th and 5th Steps are often embellished) , never the less she was convicted of murder in 2010.
More at link:?After all these years I have come to you. It is me, Jamie, the girl who took your life,? so starts a letter that accused killer Jamie Letson allegedly wrote intending to read at the grave of Katherine Foster, a University of South Alabama coed whose murder on campus in 1980 has remained unsolved for 30 years

Can anyone find her FB?
With steps 10 and 11, the sponsor was probably taking care of her own sobriety by not keeping something like that to herself and told the cops. Lying by omission? I don't know. I know if someone came to me about something like that, I would not be able to not say anything, regardless of confidentiality. I would have to report it.
4 or 6 days or whatever is hardly sober.
Uhhhh... sorry, wtf? Are some of you seriously bashing this person for telling? We're talking about incest, rape, and anything else you wanna call a mom confessing about her fucked up sex life with her daughter.
If someone told me they had a sex party with their KID and HER FRIENDS, AND that she has threesomes with HER KID, I would tell fucking everyone who needed to know, regardless if I was a priest or an AA counselor. I'd do everything I could to make sure she didn't have access to poisoning any more kids with her fucked up sex addiction.
Yea, this ain't Law & Order, this is real fucking life.
And I would NOT tell them upfront that I am gonna report them, cause I actually WANT to turn a motherfucker in. I could tell my substance abuse stories all fucking week, and even though they're chock full of felonies, there's no one getting hurt in any of it, with the exception of a few grown ass men getting hit in the face. Nothing like rape or kiddie porn though. Holy shit.
I'm completely grossed out by this, but if we put aside our reactions of & it's true that everyone was over 16 (legal age of consent where she's from - & most of Australia & multiple other Western countries) & she didn't have sex with a relative, the only crimes were smoking dope, supply of alcohol to minors & possibly sexual assault committed against her, weren't they?

The sponsor told authorities that Lehnardt confessed to having sex with an 18-year-old male in the bathroom during the naked Twister game.
According to the sheriff's report, Lehnardt allegedly went to bed alone, but awoke around 3:30 when she felt someone having sex with her.
"She stated at first she thought it was the 18-year-old from earlier, but then realized it was the 16-year-old who was in fact her daughter's boyfriend," Lehnardt's sponsor told deputies.
The sheriff's report than goes into shocking detail:
"Mrs. Lehnardt told [the sponsor] she and her daughter had spoken and that her daughter 'felt guilty because the 16-year-old was 10 inches long and huge, and if she had just been able to take it, he wouldn't have needed to rape her mother.'"
This allegation sounds like rape but Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Steve Morris said no charges on pending against him.
"Based on the investigation, there's no evidence the 16-year-old committed a crime," Morris told The Huffington Post.
The report states the sponsor goes to the same church as Lehnardt. The suspect allegedly belongs to a sexual addiction support group where she admitted to being a "sexual deviant" who is addicted to pornography.
A Sheriff's spokesman told AugustaCrime.com that Lehnardt was arrested partially based on the account given by her AA sponsor.
No sexual crime charges are being filed because 16 is the legal age of consent in her state.
Lehnardt was released from the Columbia County Detention Center after posting a $3,200 bond, according to the Augusta News-Times.
UPDATE: This version of the story includes quotes from Capt. Steve Morris about whether the 16-year-old who allegedly had sex with the suspect will be charged for rape

RIGHT. If someone confessed to me that they stole liquor from a store, or something like that I'd keep that shit secret. Who cares. But we're talking about seriously derranged shit, and regardless if the daughter was "legal" or not, I'd want to make sure she didn't have contact with ANY kids, period.
Hell, I didn't even think of theft. We stole bottles out of a club in like 2000 (eta: it was Limelight, I just remembered). The only reason that could be a "big deal" is cause even though their actual worth is like $48, the value to the club (cause of each drink being $8) is probably over a thousand, making our little petty theft into grand larceny.
Now if I tell that story, and you follow it by telling me about naked twister with your kid, you just took things to A WHOLE NOTHA LEVEL!
Turn me in, bitch. See if I give a fuck. And I don't care if I'm a pariah to other AA members. Yea, "don't tell Ron your rape/incest stories, he'll turn you in."
I'm totally OK with being that guy.
Yeah part of owning responsibility for your behavior is knowing there could be other consequences. Shame on the sponsor if they DIDNT tell!
A woman having sex parties with her 16 year old may notfall into a legal case but it sure as fuck is still dangerous and insanely damaging. You think someone with judgement this poor waited til midnight on the kids 16th birthday to start this shit? Hell no thats not how that shit works...
CPS took the kids based on this incident? Or other incidents? Fucker should have no access to her kids again.Sick fuck.
Seriously, a sponsor is an asshole if they use your depressing stories of degradation and self-abuse to laugh at you at cocktail parties, but they're not if they TELL THE POLICE A CRIME HAS BEEN COMMITTED AND POTENTIALLY WILL CONTINUE. If this shit is true, I would not doubt at alllll that the sixteen year old has been molested in some way or another.
Sorry bro but there is a huge difference between 'oh my god, at the worst point in my alcoholism, I stole money from my mom who has cancer and I took a dump in my neighbor's lawn and I passed out naked in the backyard' and admitting to abuse and endangering minors.
