After five long years, the Jodi Arias trial came to a climatic end with a guilty verdict for Murder in the First Degree. Justice spoke loud and clear, in a trial consumed with sex, lies and audiotape. As I discussed in past blogs, Arias was not insane or incompetent or a battered woman. She did not suffer from PTSD, nor borderline personality disorder, nor was she a sociopath. The DSM IV, with all of its 365 diagnoses, does not explain Arias's behavior and there is no one or no circumstance left to blame other than Jodi herself.
As much as we want to place her in a nice psychiatric diagnostic box, complete with a bow on top it just doesn?t work. The DSM system was never designed to explain criminal behavior and for all the ?experts? using it, you are just plain misguided. Here?s the simple analysis: Arias was a spoiled, selfish brat, unable to handle Alexander's rejection. She, like many in this day and age, wanted what she wanted -- NOW, and didn?t care what it took to get it. When she finally realized Travis would never be hers, she calmly decided, ?well, if I can?t have him, then nobody else will, either? and planned his death.
Typically, this disorder or that disorder is not the reason for an evil act. It's much simpler than that -- greed, jealousy, anger, obsession, revenge. These base human emotions still explain so much about bad human behavior and these are not part of DSM I, II, III or IV (or the soon to be released 5). Sometimes a person is just plain evil, and that is not a mental health diagnosis. Arias has gotten away with bad behavior all her life, and is now being held accountable -- maybe for the first time ever.

I mostly agree with this excerpt. I'm glad the jury seemed to have considered the physical facts of the case, and left most of the desperate psychologizing out. I don't like when psychology is brought into the courtroom to make perpetrators seem like victims. It's a gross misuse of that field.

She's in lock-down... there are rules... then again one would think there would have been a rule in place that says a convicted murderer is not allowed to plop down for a TV interview 10 minutes after her sentence is imposed, so who knows.

Thanks! Makes more sense now. So Travis' suite was separate from the rest of the house and he kept it locked. And since it was locked they figured he had left for his trip. I'm so relieved Napoleon was taken care of. He was down stairs when everythin was going on upstairs, right? Poor doggy didn't have to walk in the blood?

I did read a section of the thread where y'all discussed water on the floor to wash off blood. Well if T is in the shower showering as one tends to do in the shower....and he was squatted down in the shower when she took that last pic then she starts stabbing him and he crawls out of the shower and stumbles around ....while wet on tile floor.....and manages to get to the sink and cough up blood...she's stabbing him in the back and he is seeing this in the mirror (which had to be scarier than hell ) and he then trys to get away stumbling or crawling down the hall.....during all this the shower was probably still running all this time. So the floor was wet. That must explain the water/blood stains on the boxes.

I've seen the crime scene and autopsy photos but is there anywhere that shows each photo and actually has the description of items and things in the pic that the law points out?

It's amazing to watch this creature still spout her vile-ness. She actually speaks as if she's re-affirming Travis' predilictions to the public, disregarding the fact no one believed her. A girl after my own heart SBS! I've followed it from the off, still do. The reading involved in it is unbelievable, and if anyone's serious about the facts, the only way they'll get that is to read the full translated trial transcripts. The similarities in JA and AK's personality traits are astounding. Don't forget Knox eventually put herself at the scene of the crime ala Jodi, and only retracted when Muamba was freed. Jodi took 2 years to go the self defence route when she knew she was fkd with the ninja story. Cassation will re-assert the original verdict, and as it stands at the minute, her and RS remain convicted felons of M1. That'll do me.

This is a good article, particularly if you focus on the role of the person (male in this case) who is in the relationship with the person with BPD - while I'm sure not every point in it is true about Jodi and Travis, I do feel it captures some of the general dynamics in their relationship as well as why Travis may have felt drawn to Jodi, but also deeply ambivalent about her:

That's the thing about her, anything's possible. Her devious-ness never ends, so who knows where it began. If I'd to guess, I'd say she just wracked her very good memory bank to times they were around children and see what she could make fit. Mainly based on the fact she didn't come up with the pedo accusations 'till two/three years down the line from the ninja story.

I can't remember who it was... but I remember reading about a split a/c system if that even makes sense?

(especially) In hot climates, in 2 story homes, you have to have separate AC compressors for each level. One unit downstairs is not enough to cool both floors so you need a 2nd unit for the upstairs. The downstairs compressor would be on the outside of the house and typically the upstairs compressor is in the attic... Also the "air return system" takes the interior (warm) air and vents it directly to the outside of the house so the decomposition smell would not be "spread" through the cool air duct work. Warm air rises so it would not be noticed outside when it got vented until it got really, really, strong.

I had heard she was out of visitation time when her mom was turned away. I don't know but it's a new week so perhaps she has visitor time again?? I have no clue how it works there. I would think her observation in the crazy ward would be a 72 hour thing where she would be observed and questioned by a doctor then returned to her regular jail providing they determine her as not a threat to herself or others. If they happen to think she's a threat then who knows how long this could go on. Either way I'm convinced the jodi I've come to know is enjoying every minute of the attention ......
