I know we all love to play detective, attorney, forensic specialist, ME...etc, but guess what...WE'RE NOT. And those that are licensed and do this for a living and have vast experience have a much greater knowledge of it than we do. I worry when people are so quick to discredit without having any credentials or experience to back up their criticisms. If anyone does, I'd love to hear it...honestly, I really would!! However, most of us don't...
The thing is, all this minutia may be critical...we don't know that! The more lies and inconsistencies that are shown, the harder it is for Jodi's story to hold up. You don't carve a masterpiece out of stone with a sledgehammer - you nick away at it, bit by bit. This is what I think he is doing. Slowing taking away all those many little supports that make her story remotely plausible, showing the jury how each and every bit of it leads towards the whole story crumbling away. He cannot risk that one juror may not be convinced yet. We have all had odd things that have been "aha!" moments for us, whose to say that isn't the case with the jurors as well?? Who knows.
Also, he can only bring up premeditation when it's the proper time. How on earth can he bring that up with a witness that is testifying mostly to events AFTER the murder, and who in no way is qualified to talk about premeditation? What purpose would that serve except to make Juan look like an idiot with a vendetta? He still has his rebuttal case and I would say the two main goals there are to prove that this was premeditated and that it wasn't self defense (which involves discrediting her claims of abuse).
The thing is, HE is the experienced prosecuting attorney that has an overall excellent record. If he didn't know what he was doing, he wouldn't have that record and he sure as hell wouldn't have been assigned to such a huge case. He is Arizona's best, and THAT is why he is on this case.
Personally, I think he is doing a great job and every additional detail I hear him disprove only convinces me more.

I have a question, too. I know several people noted that she took what appeared to be a pill, and chugged down some water? I missed that part, but wouldn't that be violating some rules if she had any kind of medication on her person, to take on her own? I would think anything would have to be okayed and administered by an official of the court??

The defense does not have to prove anything, that is always on the State. All the defense has to do is cast a reasonable doubt that it was premeditated. If they convince one juror it was self defense, then they cannot find her guilty of M1. The burden of proof is always on the Prosecution. There could be some jurors that don't believe M1 was proven beyond a reasonable doubt for reasons besides SD. The verdict will not ever say, we find the defendant guilty of self defense. This is why CA and OJ got off, a reasonable doubt was created by the defense. It is much harder to get a conviction, imo. The jury instructions will explain it all. This jury is going to have reems of shit to sift through. Opening statements seems like eons ago, as do Mimi and Lisa. With no end in sight, ughhhhhhhhhh
The sex tape was stipulated into evidence because the family agreed it would be advantageous. It was their call.
I find her to be very assertive - leaving home at 17, confronting Bianca, hounding Darrell for gas cans, not leaving the Hughes' home when told she was not wanted, doing same to Travis, and getting snarky with Juan.

Chelsey, these are all valid points. My frustration is that I feel Martinez could be making his case much more efficiently. Did he really need to spend a day and a half cross-examining this guy? I think he could have done it just as effectively in half the time...plus, the guy was brought in to claim Jodi had amnesia and PTSD, neither of which has any bearing whatsoever on whether she premeditated the murder, or committed it in self-defense. Why spend all that time hammering away at him?
It's especially frustrating given that I think Martinez dropped the ball on one crucial thing--when he was cross-examining Jodi on her 'story' about how she accidentally shot Travis as he was lunging towards her "like a linebacker." He even had her demonstrate the 'linebacker' pose for the jury...then stopped there. Why didn't he go on to question her further, pointing out that the ME testified that the bullet trajectory was downward, from above the eyebrow to the cheek, and would have to have been fired standing over him--not facing him as she claimed. Major opportunity lost there, IMO.
Not trying to stir up controversy here, just frustrated b/c I want what everyone here wants, to see Ms. Arias get the conviction she so deserves.

Found it! Afternoon session part one at 43:41. Martinez is just starting to ask him about the missing "C" thingamabobs that would show she had PTSD. Martinez offers to show something to Doc, Willmott says she wants to see it...as soon as Martinez goes over to the defense table, Doc starts scribbling away in his notebook. Unfortunately, Martinez keeps his back turned to the Doc. I was saying to my computer, "TURN around!!!" When Martinez finally does turn around Doc is just putting his pen cap back on his pen. Martinez has NO idea that the good Doc just added a few lines.
A few minutes later these notebook pages are admitted into evidence. This is when Jennifer starts questioning him about the same thing, the "C's and the D's"...he refers to those same notebook pages and Martinez asks what he is referring to. The Doc tells him and Martinez says they should be moved into evidence if he is going to refer to him. MARTINEZ HAS NO IDEA THAT WHILE HIS BACK WAS TURNED, DOC WAS WRITING ON THOSE SAME PAGES!!!!!

The little details are so important here, because of Jodi's claim of self-defense. He has to disprove her self-defense claim, or else that leaves 'reasonable doubt'.
Pre-meditation has been proven. I wrote it out for everyone to read. If they can't be convinced by that list, then they will never be convinced. Juan has gone over the premeditation numerous times, and I'm sure he will cover it once again in his rebuttal case.
On another note, do we think that JW was going over Jodi's story about self-defense again simply to remind jurors of the claim of self-defense?
And I know this is unpopular, but I still feel sorry for the doc. I know he's getting paid, and I know he isn't organized. I suspect that he only took this case because they literally had no one else. He seems to care -- perhaps a little too much -- and that has gotten him into steep trouble here. I think Jodi was good at putting on a show for him, and he was truly convinced of her 'illness'. He bought her a book because he was concerned. I don't think someone who is just in it for the money would actually do that.
Also....I know this will be an even less popular opinion, but I just want to voice my opinion. I am very, very uncomfortable with the insults about people's physical appearance. I'm not asking anyone to stop, but I do want to put it out there that I don't enjoy the mocking that goes on. That concludes the after-school special program. :p :p :p
