It definitely IS an odd choice, so it's a part of my waffling as well, but then I remember her ninja story -which included the gun jamming- and I think maybe that was one of the sprinklings of truth in her story... and a good reason to not have just kept shooting.
Then part of me thinks she is just a heartless monster! Using the gun to maintain some sort of control over him (after all, she KNOWS how he would react to having a gun pointed at him - he TOLD her in that story of his about it happening during the bank robbery) while trying to inflict as much pain on the guy as possible! So maybe she used the gun to initially shock him into submission, got all crazy jealous rage stabbity, then shot him just to be certain the job was done?
I think it's super frustrating that we will never really know, for certain, just exactly WHAT happened because she seems incapable of ever coming out of her damned fog long enough to simply telling the TRUTH! It sucks his family has to put up with that uncertainty. I hope the verdict of this trial at least somewhat makes up for that. In a tint way.
