Likeability of the defendant, the victim, and the lawyers all comes into play. It shouldn't, but it does. Human beings just naturally make judgement calls about other human beings.

I have followed the Ryan Ferguson case, tomorrow night they are airing a new 48 hours about him and some new info (I think). It's really awful what has happened to that guy.

Some of the article was written years ago, but it says they spoke to Donovan yesterday about the trial, she has some nerve talking to the media after her girlfriend's name was brought up in court no mention of that though.
Accused murderer Jodi Arias believes she should be punished, but hopes she will not be sentenced to death, two of her closest friends told ABC News in an exclusive interview.

Ann Campbell and Donavan Bering have been a constant presence for Arias wth at least one of them sitting in the Phoenix, Ariz., courtroom along with Arias' family for almost every day of her murder trial. They befriended Arias after she first arrived in jail and believe in her innocence.

Arias admits killing her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander and lying for nearly two years about it, but insists she killed Alexander in self defense. She could face the death penalty if convicted of murder.
Nevertheless, she is aware of the seriousness of her lies and deceitful behavior.

The women told ABC News that they understand that Arias needs to be punished and Arias understands that too.

"She does know that, you know, she does need to pay for the crime," Campbell said. "But I don't want her to die, and I know that she has so much to give back."

The lies that Arias admits she told to police and her family have been devastating to her, Bering said.

""She said to me, 'I wish I didn't have to have lied. That destroyed me,'" Donovan said earlier this week. "Because now when it's so important for her to be believed, she has that doubt. But as she told me on the phone yesterday, she goes, 'I have nothing to lose.' So all she can do is go out there and tell the truth."

During Arias' nine days on the stand she has described in detail the oral, anal and phone sex that she and Alexander allegedly engaged in, despite being Mormons and trying to practice chastity. She also spelled out in excruciating detail what she claimed was Alexander's growing demands for sex, loyalty and subservience along with an increasingly violent temper.

Besides her two friends, Arias' mother and sometimes her father have been sitting in the front row of the courtroom during the testimony. It's been humiliating, Bering said.

"She's horrified. There's not one ounce of her life that's not out there, that's not open to the public. She's ashamed," she said.

You know, I've been thinking about something Jodi's lawyer brought out of her early in his questioning. He asked her how she felt about her parents (mom?) hitting her with a wooden spoon. She answered "betrayed." I read on another board that that is not a typical response from someone who is actually abused. Usually they respond with "ashamed" or something similar.

I think she actually may have inadvertantly admitted the motive for her killing Travis. She felt betrayed. That was the word that came to mind because that is still how she feels today. I think she still feels justified for killing him.

One of the worst feelings a girl can have in a dating situation is that her mate is ashamed of her and isn't "open" about their relationship. I think Jodi reeled him in with sex, but opened him up to shame in the process. I think Travis struggled with the relationship because he was lovin the dirty stuff, but deeply conflicted by it and probably shed some tears over it in private. It was like he developed a porn addiction, and was leading a double life and I'm sure he was probably hating himself a little for it. If you continue to be with someone that makes you that sad (conflicted), you're going to be deeply ashamed.

Jodi knew he was ashamed. And she felt betrayed because of it. She should be the poster child for why you should not give it away. Not just because sex is sacred, but it can really fuck things up. This was the perfect storm. He knew the second she seduced him that he didn't want to marry a girl like that. She knew the second she seduced him that this was going to be the man she would marry.

Page 2 of what Beli posted for me:

Jodi Arias Believes She Should Be Punished

The two Phoenix women say they have been supporting Arias since 2008 when she first arrived at the Estrella Jail in Phoenix. Bering got to know Arias well while incarcerated on an accessory to arson charge. She asked her friend Campbell to visit Arias, too, because Arias' family was out of state. Campbell said, "We hit it off right away. She's very nice and funny. And really articulate."

Their growing friendship continued after Bering was released from jail. Now, they say, they speak to Arias by phone daily and visit often. Bering has been in court nearly every day.

They told ABC News that they were initially reluctant to speak out, but felt it was important for people to hear about the Jodi Arias they have come to know and love ? a woman, they say, who is not the murderous monster she's been portrayed as over the last two months.

"I find it really hard to believe what happened, knowing her," Bering said. "Never, ever have I seen her raise her voice, seen her yell, seen her do anything. So when I'm sitting there in court, it blows me away because I'm sitting there knowing the person that I know, seeing her and talking to her and see how much compassion she has."

Campbell says she believes Arias' story of self-defense and that, "It had to be something terrible for her to snap because in the four and a half years that I visited her, I've never seen her get angry, lose her temper."

While the Jodi Arias they know is typically "bubbly" and "funny," Campbell said Arias is remorseful about what she has done.

"She's just hurt by what's gone on and how this has affected her family, I mean, very much. And she hurts for her mother and her family," Campbell said.

The friends say Arias feels especially horrible being an aunt in jail because she has new nieces that she has never been able to touch.

The women said they are also heartbroken for Alexander's family.

"They have to relive this every day. They hear their brother's voice, they see their brother's handwriting. They see pictures of him. I've always said nobody deserves to die that way, you know, because it was horrible," Bering said. "So I think about them a lot. And I know that it's very hard for them because they see us over there and we're supporting the person that took their brother's life. But I wish that I could tell them, you know, that I really feel for them."

The women said it's been a tragedy for both families.

"She's been incarcerated five years before she even got to trial. She's had her life destroyed," Bering said. "To me, I look at it as two people's lives have been lost. There was the tragic death of Travis. And then there's Jodi who will never have her life again."

If I were a juror and hadn't ruled out the pedophile story yet I would seriously be scratching my head over her reaction. She claims she "sometimes" enjoyed sex with Travis and obviously they were not living together nor was she financially dependent to him. He was also clearly not keeping her grandmother captive in the basement or whatever. Yet the day she finds out about him being sexually attracted to children she claims to go to his house to willingly have sex with him?

I don't know. But she prioritized things like this:

To do: Keep having a fucked up relationship with a man she (well kinda sometimes) enjoys having sex with.
To not to do: Take measurements to have him not be around children so they won't have to fall victims to this man she states as being a violent sexual deviant.

I think she would have been better off without this crazy pedo story.

Also if I were a juror I would have been amazed at how her presence change when she got to cross.

Regarding Donovan's comment in that article just posted: WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT JODI? Aw, she hasn't held her new nieces/nephews. Am I supposed to feel bad about that? Travis will never even SEE his. I don't see how the sympathy card works in a situation like this. She has such a rough life now? No shit, because she BRUTALLY murdered someone... Her situation was her own fucking doing. None of this had to happen, if she'd had been a decent human being and not slaughtered a guy.

I'm realizing that Juan got her to say that she doesn't have a memory "problem" or "issue" - only when a man screams at her does her brain scramble.

So this may help go against any claim she has that her she can't remember significant parts of her testimony.

There should be no reason her brain was scrambled at any point after she killed Travis and he stopped screaming at her.

Whether it's true or not, she's already testified in her own words that she stole Travis Alexander's gun, his rope, and his bottle of personal lubricant!

ETA: There is no proof that Travis owned either a gun or this soft rope, but we do know that he had a bottle of personal lubricant because we can see it in the picture. It would be epic if she got put away for life simply because she swiped some KY Jelly.

Arias: "When I'm under stress, yeah, it affects my memory."
Martinez: "I thought you said your relationship with Mr. Alexander was very stressful."
Arias: "Some of the sex wasn't."
    Martinez: "Pardon?"
Arias: "Some of the sex wasn't."
Martinez: "So you DID enjoy the sex, is that what you're telling me?"
    Arias: "At times I did."

He should have stopped her RIGHT THERE.....and said, "It seems to me, you have ONLY recalled, in exact DETAIL...the 'stressful and traumatic' sex with Travis. We have heard no recounts of loving, tender or nice sex. So, how is it Ms. Arias, you can tell us specifically what supposedly happened to you during those moments, but other stressful instances to you, you're having difficulty remember the details, due to the stress and trauma of the situation?? Your memory lapse 'factors' are inconsistent."

Maybe he's building up all these "memory lapse" incidences and, he'll later, drive the point home that she sure has a lot of memories to drag Travis's name through the mud, for it being so scary, traumatic and stressful for her... I have faith as the days on cross continue, he's going to expose more and more about all of these tall tales she has told, and call out the liar she is!!!!!!!!!!!
That is what I think he is doing.

I think we will see her skip back and forth between the two. Especially when Martinez is grilling her about the murder details.

Sometimes he did. I watched a lot of it again last night. I think Nurmi looks most pissed when Martinez is going after Jodi. I think Nurmi loves that his role is the big white knight in shining armor. Martinez going after his "damsel in distress" messes with his intended image.

I know that really pissed off Nurmi and Willmott too. But, Martinez can say that over and over again (and I believe he will too), as long as he doesn't use the word "murder." Jodi has admitted to "killing" Travis. The defense's claim is that is was a "killing in self defense," not a "cold blooded, premeditated murder."

Even if "Matt the liar" gets up there and lies his butt off, which we all know he will, and Martinez makes mincemeat out of him, the defense might believe it will still benefit Jodi if the jury hears his lies. You can't "un-hear" something. The defense is praying that there is at least one really dumb juror up there whom they can confuse enough.

That is a great screenshot. You should send it to the Maricopa County Jail. I'm pretty sure Arpaio would have a fit if one of his deputies passed anything to Jodi. Hopefully the deputy in the screenshot is smart enough to realize that and didn't indulge the crazy Donovan "lady."

Not to mention, in Jodi's stories about Travis abusing her, she ALWAYS has Travis screaming at her. I'm sure she will say it only "sometimes" affects her memory.

She said it really bratty, too. In retaliation to, "Wait. Didn't you say your relationship with Travis was stressful?" She said, "The sex wasn't." Like, Boom. She was getting one over on him. I think saying that was not done on purpose because her entire testimony is that they didn't have sex; instead, she was repeatedly seduced/raped. She just "contradicted her testimony".
I think she would have been better off without this crazy pedo story.
Me, too. It's a catch-22. You either don't believe her. Or you believe her and she is a terrible person for not reporting it and offering to buy him lunch after catching him in the act.

So true. I think it is because JEALOUSY is the real motive. If she couldn't have him, NO ONE else would either. She went there with a goal. Get Travis back. If Travis choose wrong, her ONLY choice was to murder him (in her crazy mind.) Her jealousy left no other options.

P.S...jealousy is not love. Jealousy is about what SHE wants. Everything Jodi does is always for herself!

Hey guys- sorry if this has already been addressed...I'm trying like hell to keep up here- but you're all too quick for me! So what is the whole deal with JA going back to Brewer's house to return the 'remote' on June 3rd? JM brought that up (when he crossed Brewer) and then again yesterday when he was addressing Matt McCartney. What is the significance of her returning to return the remote? He seemed to have brushed over both times, but since he brought it up without a direct connection, it's bugging the crap outta' me. Anybody have any thoughts?

I noticed Juan doing this as well. Didn't think it was on purpose though. That would be interesting if it was!

I absolutely believe they won't need much time deliberating what so ever and it won't be about JM.

With Jodi, his cross of her makes more sense if you think of it this way- try to imagine that you need to verbally express your argument about something, but you can't use your own voice- you have to get a person who lies about everything and will deny every piece of truth that you want to say to do your talking for you.

Juan's arguments are coming out through Jodi's mouth now, and she is fighting him every single second of the way.
I think it was a very good FIRST day. He showed her to be a liar, disloyal to "loved" ones, disrespectful of the law, and a smart aleck. Then let the jury ponder that over a 3 day weekend.

She didn't spend a day in prison yet that's where she met Jodi? Ok Donovan

I wondered the same thing. Sorry I'm no help...I have no idea what the significance is.

    But, I can speculate:
It would be fun if it had huge significance. Like maybe she left the remote at the hair salon when she dyed her hair brown?? Or maybe they found a remote in a bag in the desert with a bloody knife, a gun, a bottle of KY Jelly, and some bloody clothes?

    The mysterious "smoking" remote!

There's something hinky about Jodi's statement of having to go to Salinas to catch highway 101.

I lived in Pacific Grove for 4 years (tiny coastal community; Darryl and I worked at the same place but I didn't know him, I think he was employed there after I left). I made trips north and south from Pacific Grove, and I have no recollection of ever having to drive into Salinas to get to the 101. You can connect to the 101 via Highway 68 to Highway 1 to Highway 156 and then directly onto the 101.

Also, being very familiar with the Pacific Grove and Monterey area, there are TONS of places in those tiny communities to get your hair and nails done. Very good places. There wouldn't be any need to pick a random spot in Salinas. Sure, there would be a lot more places in Salinas than in Monterey or Pacific Grove, but if I had been in her place, I'd have just gotten my nails done right there in PG, hopped on the 68, and headed out.

I dunno. Maybe I'm overthinking her strategy because I'm still really homesick for Pacific Grove, but her story about going into Salinas just seems "off" to me. The only time I ever went to Salinas was to go to Walmart since PG and Monterey have (so far) refused to let one in and the one in Marina wasn't opened yet. I can't help but wonder if she didn't have another reason for going to Salinas that day, but we'll never know.

I do note her Walmart receipt for the gas can is the Salinas location...but why not just say she had to go to Salinas to go to Walmart instead of the whole "I had to get my nails done to look nice for Ryan" yada yada yada story.

    Fuckery abounds, apparently.

I think her point might be that she only spent time in jail...not prison. Way to go Donovan. Your mom must be so proud.
