An Eastpointe man accused of strangling his wife and their two young children with a USB cable as they slept inside their home is to have a preliminary exam May 26.
The exam for Timothy Fradeneck ? requested by Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor William Cataldo ? is expected to last less than an hour and include two police officers as witnesses. The date was set today during Fradeneck's probable cause conference in 38th District Court in Eastpointe.
Fradeneck, 38, is facing seven charges, including murder and child abuse, in the deaths of his wife, Christie, 37; their daughter, Celeste, 2, and their son, Timothy, 8.

Police: Eastpointe dad strangled sleeping wife, kids
Authorities said he had been planning their murders since August. He told police "the opportunity presented itself" sometime between late April 12 and early April 13. He is being held in the Macomb County Jail without bond.
Fradeneck, dressed in a yellow jail jumper, simply answered "yes sir" to three questions posed to him by Judge Carl Gerds III. Neither Fradeneck's family nor the family of Christie Fradeneck wanted to speak after the hearing.
Defense attorney Steve Kaplan said he was willing to waive the preliminary exam to "spare the family the need to hear the gruesome details." Cataldo said the witnesses will be the first officer on scene and the interviewing officer.
During Fradeneck's arraignment, a detective told the court police went to the home in the 22000 block of Cushing April 13 to check the welfare of the mother and children. Timothy Fradeneck answered the door and said they were sleeping. Police refused to leave until they saw the children.
Fradeneck invited police inside, said his wife and children were dead and that he killed them using a USB cable, according to that testimony. He said the trio was found in their beds.
In early June, Kaplan said he will seek a referral to the forensic center for Fradeneck to have an exam for criminal responsibility. He said Fradeneck's mother is seeking to be power of attorney to take care of her son's finances, bills and debts.
