Nov.15, 2016: Park Tudor Avoids Felony Prosecution in Kyle Cox Probe
Summary of Events: Chem teacher and varsity basketball coach Kyle Cox was sexting a 15 year old sophomore girl, gradually grooming her for sex. When the girl's father found the explicit texts in December of 2015, which included naked pictures sent by his daughter to the teacher/coach, the father took the evidence to the school's headmaster demanding something be done. Headmaster Matthew Miller took the evidence and decided it was best to bring in Kyle Cox, fire him, and then have him sign a confidentiality agreement so there would a) be no bad press about the school and b) Cox could continue to find work as an educator elsewhere. Miller allowed Cox to take his school issued laptop home so it could be wiped before returning it the next day.
Miller waited 24 hours to alert police of the incident, and when he finally did, he withheld information and evidence from them. He kept the photos of the 15 year old girl, and gave copies to the school's lawyer to keep, which is felony possession of child pornography.
As time went on, rumors circulated about Kyle Cox getting away with all of this, and things eventually culminated in an FBI joint task force raiding the school to look for evidence on January 7th, 2016. Miller's laptop was seized on Thursday, January 21st, just two days before his suicide.
Miller hanged himself in his garage on the morning of Saturday, January 23rd, leaving behind a wife and two young children.
Kyle Cox was sentenced to 14 years on July 29th, 2016. Cox admitted to inappropriate relationships with three other students during the course of the investigation and trial.
