On June 13, 2016, Amy McHale was last seen by family when she left her mother’s house in south Philadelphia. Around 10:00 pm, she was last seen along Broad and Olney Avenues, wearing shorts and a tank top.

In the early morning hours of June 14, 2016, Amy called her daughter and left a voicemail, saying she was going to be staying at her ex-husbands house, which is something she would do from time to time.

When her daughter tried to call Amy back it went straight to voicemail. She hasn’t been heard from since.

Amy’s ex-husband says she had been at his home on the night of June 13th, but that she was gone when he woke up the next morning.

vestigators are trying to determine what activities were taking place inside an Olney home after authorities discovered chemicals, firearms, ammunition and fake IDs.

Eugene Horsch, 44, is being held on drug and firearms charges following a multi-agency investigation involving the Philadelphia Police Department and the FBI.

Authorities spent Friday searching Horsch's home on the 400 block of West Chew Avenue, where Chopper 6 showed investigators wearing hazmat suits entering the property as police secured the neighborhood.

Investigators also found what Vanore described as a 55-gallon drum connected to water lines, though police have not determined its purpose.

"We just don't know what he was doing," Vanore said. "He's producing something. If he's making something, if he's irrigating something, we don't know."

Vanore said detectives are continuing to search the property, including an area near a sump pump, but emphasized that no human remains have been found.

The investigation stems from an encounter on June 19 at Independence Mall, where park rangers encountered Horsch and a woman inside a vehicle. Police said Horsch was carrying fake Drug Enforcement Administration credentials, while the woman possessed a fake identification card bearing the name of a missing person.

The developments drew the attention of the family of Amy McHale, who disappeared in 2016 after she was last seen at the West Chew Avenue home.

McHale had previously been married to Horsch's late father.

Investigators discovered a bizarre and twisted scene inside the Philadelphia home of a felon they’re probing over possible links to at least two missing women — including a stockpile of dangerous chemicals, a 55-gallon drum, several urns, hidden compartments, multiple guns and a creepy handwritten letter with references to Ted Bundy.

The investigation was sparked when a US park ranger overheard an argument between Horsch and his girlfriend in a parked car near Independence Hall in Old City on June 19, police said.

After the girlfriend was heard saying, “You’re going to hurt me,” the ranger decided to check on the couple and informed other law enforcement agencies who came to the scene.

Authorities then discovered that Horsch was allegedly carrying a fake Drug Enforcement Administration badge, a switchblade, and two guns with “obliterated serial numbers,” Vanore told reporters.

Horsch’s girlfriend also had a fake ID with her photo on it — but with a name belonging to a woman who had been reported missing.

The woman whose name was on the fake ID was reported missing in February 2023 from the Kensington area, sources told the Philadelphia Inquirer. Cops have not yet publicly identified her.

The girlfriend later told police that Horsch had given her the ID to use because she had outstanding arrest warrants. Though she didn’t know the missing woman, she thought something bad may have happened to her, the local outlet reported.

The woman showed the ID to U.S. Park Police on June 19 after they found her and Eugene Albert Horsch, 44, seated in his black BMW, with drug paraphernalia, guns and knives stashed in the car, according to police records.

Police remained at the home Monday in case investigators needed to retrieve more evidence, Vanore said, adding there was no threat to the public.

Among the items seized was a piece of writing about serial killer Ted Bundy that referenced zip ties and a drum, a source familiar with the investigation told NBC10. The note also mentioned killings and “trash that needs to go.” It remains unclear who wrote it.

Well, fighting with your girlfriend on Independence Mall is a really good way to get caught, since there is always a HUGE police presence there. That's the neighborhood I moved out of a year ago (and into a nearby neighborhood not far from Kensington, where most of the bad things in this city happen).

The chilling new detail surfaced Tuesday along with more information about the missing woman, Blair Tonzelli, who was 35 when she vanished from a Philly neighborhood in 2023.

Tonzelli was a drifter in and out of jail for drug and prostitution charges who fell in with a man named “Raymond” who sold marijuana, another friend told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Raymond is the first name of late pot-peddling fetish photographer R.C. Horsch — who used to live in the home along with his 44-year-old son Eugene Horsch.

Eugene has not been charged but is being eyed in the disappearance of Tonzelli and his dad’s much younger ex-wife, Amy McHale, 44, who vanished in 2016, law-enforcement sources have said. He has blamed his father for the women’s disappearance.

RC, who died last year in his 80s, had been arrested for growing illegal pot and made a name for himself photographing and filming graphic twisted images of nude women, boasting on his website about taking snaps of “scantily clad women in sadomasochistic settings.”

Cops later found Tonzelli’s name on bank cards inside the house — along with more fake IDs, drugs, weapons, vats of chemicals, urns of human ash, a document referencing infamous serial killer Ted Bundy and other items straight out of a horror movie set.

Eugene is being held on drug and weapons charges as cops continue testing 55-gallon drums and other suspicious items in the home — as well as local sewers — for potential DNA and other evidence.

Philadelphia police began digging up a pipe Wednesday at the Olney property at the center of an ongoing investigation that is possibly connected to the disappearance of at least one woman.

Earlier this week, Philadelphia police spokesperson Sgt. Eric Gripp said police, alongside federal partners, had planned to excavate the pipe in the near future.

Videos found at a "mystery house" in Philadelphia's Olney neighborhood show two missing women who are believed to be dead, investigators revealed Wednesday.

Philadelphia Police Inspector Raymond Evers shared new details during an afternoon press conference on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026.

Within the digital evidence, detectives reported finding videos depicting two women inside the house, Evers explained. Some videos show them alive and then other videos show them appearing to be dead.

"I'm not gonna get into exactly what I saw, it's dark. It's real dark. But what we saw is these two girls alive. There was a period of time and what appears to us that they're deceased. There's pieces of the video that we don't have yet," Evers said during Wednesday's press conference.

The women are identified as Maribel Fresses and Gabriella Amarando who were both born in 1990, Evers said. Fressess was reported missing in February 2018 and Anarando has been missing since September of 2012.

Detectives have not been able to find their bodies, Evers explained. The medical examiner confirmed that based off of the photo and video evidence, the two women are dead but could not verify how they died.

Evers stressed that the videos are "dark and graphic."

Some other people who are seen in other pieces of the digital evidence are alive, but others are still missing, according to Evers.

Inspector Evers said that there will be an increased police presence at the house on the 400 block of West Chew Avenue as the investigation continues.

Detectives are returning to the home and Evers explained they want to reexamine parts of it that may have been previously overlooked.

Federal prosecutors will take over the case against an Olney man at the center of an ongoing investigation involving at least two missing women.

At a hearing on Thursday, Philadelphia's district attorney withdrew state charges against 44-year-old Eugene Horsch.

Sources said cadaver dogs searched the property in mid-July. The Action Cam captured investigators in protective suits removing test tubes from the residence.

The following week, investigators were seen excavating and removing an underground pipe from in front of the property.

A childhood friend of Gabrielle Amarando, one of the missing women linked to a house in the Olney section of Philadelphia at the center of a massive investigation and who is presumed to be dead, said she wants people to remember her friend's life.

Police said Wednesday they recovered tens of thousands of images and videos from inside the house on the 400 block of West Chew Avenue. In the first batch they reviewed, detectives found evidence indicating Amarando and another woman, Maribel Fresses, were inside the home and have since died, Inspector Raymond Evers said.

Their bodies have not been found. Amarando has been missing since 2012.

"She was a wonderful person. She had the biggest personality. She would make everyone laugh any second that she had," Levin said.

Levin said her friend was artistic, loved fashion and always changing her hair.

After high school, Levin said, both women battled addiction, went in different directions and lost touch.

Police had entered the Philadelphia home now at the center of multiple death investigations before, but noted the property looked “different” when detectives returned earlier this summer.

During an unrelated news conference on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Investigations Frank Vanore said narcotics detectives had previously visited the West Chew Avenue home as part of a drug investigation. The exact timing of the search was not clear and the differences are unknown.

Documents filed in May 2025 that the NBC10 Investigators obtained said Eugene Horsch possessed “marijuana and amphetamines” at the property. Police also said Eugene Horsch was found with a gun that had an “obliterated serial number.”

“Narcotics had served the warrant and been inside that house previous to this incident,” Vanore said. “That wasn't the first time we were there. It didn't look like it looked when we went in. It was different.”

The NBC10 Investigators have also confirmed that Horsch's father, Ray “R.C.” Horsch, who died in 2025, was married to Amy McHale, who disappeared in 2016. The elder Horsch produced snuff films and wrote erotic books with sadomasochistic themes. The changes to the home may have followed Ray Horsch's death the same year as the narcotics search.

Sources tell the NBC10 Investigators that authorities found what appeared to be fake blood during the search of the home, but no human remains. Last month, investigators excavated pipes at the property but did not find anything substantial, sources said.

A fire also burned at the property in 2025, damaging the second floor. Eugene Horsch’s attorney has also previously said his client had no knowledge of what his father may have left in the basement.

A troubling photo of a missing woman appeared on Raymond Horsch’s erotic website, years before police investigated

Horsch used a photo of Blair Tonzelli as one of several lead images on the site for years, even after she was reported missing to police in 2023.

In September 2023, seven months after Blair Tonzelli was reported missing, a nude photograph of her appeared prominently on a local pornographer’s website.

She is staring at the camera, with what appears to be a black eye and blood running down her lower lip.

While it is unclear when it was taken, Raymond “R.C.” Horsch first uploaded the picture to his website’s homepage around 2020, sometime after he had met Tonzelli in Kensington, and he used it as one of several lead images on the site for years, according to archived website data reviewed by The Inquirer.

Horsch’s website is now inactive. But it was up and running when Tonzelli’s friends reported her missing in February 2023, telling officers she was last seen at Horsch’s home the previous summer.

Police have not said whether officers ever visited the home or interviewed Horsch about her disappearance — or if they were aware Tonzelli’s nude photo was featured on his public website. Officers raided the home as part of a drug investigation in May 2025, but investigators in that case did not appear to link the property to any missing women at that time.

A Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation.
