I think the daughter is drinking the delulu lemonade. Yeah, your mom shouldn't have died over a coffee order, but she shouldn't have started throwing hands and not expect the employees to not defend themselves. Snatching a chunk of someone's hair and putting it in your purse is wild!

Edited to add that the daughter is probably going to get an undisclosed amount of money from Tim Hortons because businesses hate bad publicity. I called it first!

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA/Gray News) — A 75-year-old woman died after a fight with an employee at a Tim Hortons restaurant in Indiana last week.

The Fort Wayne Police Department identified the woman as Anita Ann Grayson.

Police released surveillance video of the fight that took place shortly before her death in the restaurant.

Video shows Grayson entering the coffee chain just after 8 a.m. to address an issue with her drive-thru order. Grayson then began “berating a 17-year-old female employee,” police said.

A 20-year-old shift lead then stepped between Grayson and the teen and told Grayson to leave, police said.

The 75-year-old then appeared to move around the shift lead toward the teen employee, with the shift lead putting her hands on Grayson in response.

Grayson then shoved the shift lead backwards and struck her in the face. The shift lead then went toward Grayson, swinging her arms.

Grayson responded by grabbing the shift lead by the hair and pulling her to the ground while the shift lead swatted at Grayson’s arm.

During the fight, Grayson pulled a chunk of hair from the shift lead’s head, “leaving a raw area on the top of her head,” police said.

Two other Tim Hortons employees then stepped in to separate Grayson and the shift lead. Once they were separated, the employees went behind the counter. Grayson sat down at a table and began talking on the phone, at one point grabbing the shift lead’s ripped hair from the floor and placing it into her bag.

About 10 minutes later, Grayson lay on the floor and the shift lead went to check on her, bringing her a cup of water. A second employee also came to check on Grayson.

When police arrived, they found Grayson unresponsive.

Medics began life-saving measures and transported Grayson to the hospital. She was pronounced dead.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has not ruled a cause and manner of death as of Tuesday, but preliminary findings show there were “no significant contributory injuries.”

Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker released a statement Tuesday, saying in part:

“It’s important for each of us to not draw conclusions until all of the facts have been released. I’m hopeful that the video and narrative that will be released by the Fort Wayne Police Department later today will help alleviate the uneasiness that many individuals have felt over the past few days.”

Grayson’s daughter, Tawnda Grayson, said she does not accept the police account and believes her mother should still be alive.

“That’s the elderly lady. That’s not how we treat our senior citizens,” she said. “We be careful with them. We make sure that they’re alright. We don’t jump on them and attack them. And scare them to death.”

Tawnda Grayson said her mother had congestive heart failure. She said her mother had just gotten a new heart doctor and was wearing a heart monitor a week before the fight.

“My mother was wronged in the worst way,” Tawnda Grayson said. “I lost the matriarch of my family.”

She added, “You should not enter a coffee shop for a coffee and a doughnut and come out unalived. That is diabolical.”

The Allen County Prosecutor’s Office said it will not be making a decision in the case until they have “received and reviewed all evidence related to the investigation.”

What a shame. I agree it was started by this woman and that's where the blame lies but Timmy Hos will pay out to the family for sure even though it was this woman's actions and attack that caused the incident.

The mask has finally slipped, and the truth is out for everyone to see.

​For years, my mom and my auntie talked about the aggression, the abuse, and the mistreatment they endured when they lived with Anita Grayson. And what did the Graysons do? They tried to cover it up. They wanted everyone to think she was too brittle to do anything.

​This video from the Fort Wayne Tim Hortons shows exactly who she really is. That is NOT a weak, fragile woman. That is the exact same aggression she took out on my mom and my aunt for years. The only difference is, my mom and my auntie were defenseless and vulnerable. The people in this video weren't. They gave her back blow for blow, because we are in a new day and age of "fuck around and find out."

Now her daughter is claiming she was sick and had congestive heart failure. But word around town is she had been sick for quite some time. Exactly how long did they know about this?

Word around town is ALSO that they can get assistance straight from the state—whether it's through Indiana Medicaid Burial Assistance or the local Township Trustees right here in Allen County / Fort Wayne to cover the burial costs. If the state offers programs to handle this, what is the actual point of the GoFundMe? I’m trying to make this make sense!
​3. The Real Agenda:
Unless you’re just trying to secure a bag for you and the rest of your siblings?

Yeah, given the post from the family member, it's clear that she had anger and aggression issues. If someone is attacked, they have the right to defend themselves REGARDLESS of who the person is that is doing the attacking. It sounds like this woman was a terror and her family are kind of glad that she's gone.

A Tim Hortons employee involved in a conflict that started in the drive-thru and spilled into the restaurant will not be criminally charged in the death of a customer.

The announcement last week by officials in Indiana came after a months-long investigation into the incident at a restaurant in Fort Wayne.

Multiple calls to 911 were made during this time, including one from Grayson herself, who stated that her order was wrong, so she’d asked for the manager.

“The manager got in my face and I had to hit her to get her out of my face. … I’m breathing heavy because I’m about to have a heart attack. I’m 75 years old and this young manager jumped on me and beat me down to the floor. All I wanted was my money back.”

The investigation says some of her statements are backed up by the video, but the description of being jumped on and beaten “is not borne out by the video, which shows her delivering the first shove.”

Less than 20 minutes after Grayson entered the restaurant, she was seen lying down on the floor. One employee described her as appearing to hyperventilate and then vomit, and that she lowered herself to the floor rather than falling. The shift lead went to check on her and bring her water, police said. Another employee checked on her, at which point she was responsive.

The employee said the woman was responsive until paramedics arrived, but the investigation report describes her as “hyperventilating and foaming from her mouth” when they reached the scene.

Paramedics performed CPR and transported her to hospital in critical condition, but she was pronounced dead.

Medical records obtained by investigators after her death showed she had recently been treated for congestive heart failure, hypertension, shortness of breath, and other complaints related to cardiovascular issues.

Her cause of death was determined to be “acute exacerbation of congestive heart failure in the setting of a physical altercation,” the report says. Her manner of death was classified as “undetermined,” but the coroner also found that the injuries Grayson had as a result of the altercation did not contribute to her death.

A key question in the case, according to Allen County Prosecutor’s Office Chief Counsel Tesa Helge, was whether the 20-year-old employee who struck Grayson was trying to hurt her.

“In reviewing the witness statements and reviewing the video, we believe she’s not. We believe she’s doing that to try to de-escalate the conflict that’s occurring and to protect the other employee who’s standing behind her,” Helge said at a news conference.

“In this particular case, and we know that from the coroner’s report, from the autopsy findings, that the death was not caused by what occurred there in Tim Hortons that day. So there is really no way to prove a murder on that because we don’t have causation. ... We don’t have an action that knowingly or intentionally caused a death, so murder really isn’t applicable in this situation.”
