Agreed. I'm certain that they are sadly not alive anymore.

Newly released court documents in the case of Jack and Lilly Sullivan offer more details on the relationship between their mother and stepfather leading up to the children's disappearance more than eight months ago.

Lilly, 6, and Jack, 5, have been missing since May 2, 2025, when their mother Malehya Brooks-Murray called 911 to report they had wandered away from their home in Lansdowne, N.S., a sparsely populated area about 140 kilometres northeast of Halifax.

At the time of their disappearance, the children were living with Brooks-Murray, their stepfather, Daniel Martell, and the couple’s baby daughter. The family, including Lilly and Jack, were last seen in public the day before the two children were reported missing.
As part of the case, police sought 12 search warrants between May 16, 2025 and July 16, 2025.

More details of those applications for warrants are laid out in court records that were obtained by CBC News and The Globe and Mail this week.

In those court documents, there are details of an interview conducted by police with Brooks-Murray. She discusses her relationship with Martell, saying she moved in with him on his mother’s property in Lansdowne around August 2023.
Brooks-Murray was asked if Martell was ever physically abusive.

“Malehya said he would try to block her, hold her down and once he pushed her,” the documents said.

“She said he would also take her phone from her when she tried to call her mom, which would sometimes be physical and hurt.”

Meanwhile, Martell told investigators they had recently been fighting about money, but otherwise their relationship was “good.”

“They have ups and downs like any couple,” the documents said, recounting what Martell told police during an interview.

“He said they would yell at each other when they were fighting, but there was no physical violence in their relationship.”
The documents also suggest that Lilly and Jack’s biological father, Cody Sullivan, had not seen the children in a few years, but was paying child support up until he lost his job nine months before their disappearance.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob McCamon confirmed the nature of the relationship between Brooks-Murray and Martell at the time of the disappearance is part of the investigation.

“I'm not going to comment on … anything being a factor, but I will say that any situation like that would be considered and followed up on by our people,” said McCamon in an interview.

When asked if any of the children's family members are considered suspects in this case, McCamon said there are no suspects he can identify at this time.

“I wouldn't say anybody's a suspect. Again, we continue to gather information, whatever evidence that we are able to find, and we'll make our decisions based on that,” said McCamon, the officer in charge of major crime and behavioural sciences.

The fact that she said this much tells me that there was MUCH more. She's obviously in an abusive relationship so what she is admitting to happening likely only scratches the surface.

The information that the child support stopped just 9 months before they disappeared is not lost on me. I think that with the loss of that income it deemed the kids no longer useful to him. In his mind, he was paying for kids that weren't his. Thus the baby got to stay, but the others had to go.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

"The interviews reveal new details about Lilly and Jack’s family, according to court documents obtained by the CBC.

In one, investigators asked Brooks-Murray if Martell had ever been physically abusive. In response, the CBC reported, citing the documents, that the mom said "he would try to block her, hold her down and once he pushed her."

“She said he would also take her phone from her when she tried to call her mom, which would sometimes be physical and hurt," the outlet added.
The documents also state that Martell told authorities he Brooks-Murray had a “good” relationship, though they had been fighting about money recently, according the CBC.

“He said they would yell at each other when they were fighting, but there was no physical violence in their relationship,” the documents reportedly state, per the outlet."

Those really aren't the type of details you can build off of. It's more of a he said, she said.

The stepfather of two missing Nova Scotia children appeared in court Monday on charges related to an alleged assault in a separate case.

Daniel Martell was arraigned in Pictou provincial court on one count of assault, one count of sexual assault and one count of unlawful confinement involving an adult woman.

The incidents are alleged to have occurred between September 2024 and March 2025.

Nova Scotia RCMP have conducted a second round of polygraph examinations in the disappearance of Jack and Lilly Sullivan, with two of those tests focused on one of the only pieces of physical evidence in the case: a light pink blanket found hanging in a tree.

A piece of Lilly’s blanket, found on the first day of the search tangled in a tree's twigs, has been the subject of much speculation, fuelled by a lack of answers in the case.

Family members on all sides have suggested online and in media interviews that it was planted.

Haley Ferdinand, Brooks-Murray’s stepsister, was one of the people who came upon the piece of tattered blanket off Lansdowne Station Road, a kilometre from the children’s home, as they scoured for Jack and Lilly alongside dozens of search and rescue members.
“We went down one side of the road and came back up the other,” said Ferdinand, adding that Brooks-Murray’s half-brother, Haiden Murray-Smith, was with her at the time. “We came back up the other side and all of a sudden there was this pink thing in the tree.”

Ferdinand said she was asked four questions during a polygraph examination on Feb 20: “Did you plant the blanket in the tree? Did you place the blanket in the tree? Did you put the blanket in the tree? Did you leave the blanket in the tree?”

She said she responded “no” to each question, and at the end, she was told she passed the examination.

Haiden Murray-Smith confirmed to CBC News that he was asked the same four questions during a polygraph examination on Feb. 19. He said he responded “no” to each question, and was told by the examiner at the end that he passed.

A last-minute disclosure of additional evidence by the RCMP led to an adjournment of Daniel Martell’s plea hearing on charges of sexual assault, assault and forcible confinement.

Martell, 34, is the stepfather to Jack and Lilly Sullivan. The two children went missing last May from the Lansdowne Station home he shared with their mother. The charges are unrelated to the disappearance of Jack and Lilly Sullivan.
Crown attorney Bill Gorman said outside the courtroom that additional evidence was received from the RCMP on Monday morning that would have to be disclosed to the defence.

A new hearing for election and plea was scheduled for May 4.

Searchers were back in the woods in Lansdowne Station, N.S., Sunday as the search for Lilly and Jack Sullivan continues almost one year after the siblings were first reported missing.

About 50 people scoured the woods looking for any sign of six-year-old Lilly and four-year-old Jack. A cadaver dog was also part of the search.
This weekend the Ontario-based group "Please Bring Me Home” conducted the search.

The Province of Nova Scotia is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information about the disappearance of Lilly and Jack Sullivan.

No big updates but I did find this:
    https://www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia...siblings-court

"Daniel Martell, Jack and Lilly Sullivan's stepfather, arrives at Pictou provincial court on Monday, March 2, 2026. Sullivan is charged with sexual assault, assault and forcible confinement of an adult"

"A long process of evidence disclosure caused Daniel Martell’s charges of sexual assault, assault and forcible confinement to be adjourned for a second time."

For some reason, I could not access the article. Did they make any mention about him and their mom ~ are they together or still separated?

For more than 15 months, Malehya Brooks-Murray says she has lived in perpetual anticipation — marking childhood milestones not with celebrations, but with a growing collection of sealed cards and wrapped gifts, awaiting a homecoming that has yet to materialize.

Her son and daughter, Jack and Lilly Sullivan, then four and six, disappeared from the sparsely populated community of Lansdowne, N.S., last May under mysterious circumstances.

In an exclusive interview with CBC News and The Globe and Mail, Brooks-Murray said she had nothing to do with her children’s disappearance, doesn’t believe she’s a suspect in the investigation and holds out hope that her children are still alive.

She explained that her silence was not a choice, but rather an instruction from the RCMP.

Now, her patience is running out.
“I just did whatever they told me to do because I didn't want to jeopardize the case in any way. And I also wasn't ready because I'm continuing to go through extreme trauma and even this is extremely hard for me,” said Brooks-Murray.

Brooks-Murray, 28, recalled that the last time she saw Lilly was on the morning of May 2, 2025, when her daughter poked her head into the bedroom Brooks-Murray shared with her then-partner Daniel Martell and their one-year-old daughter.

The day after the disappearance, amid escalating tensions between her family and Martell’s, Brooks-Murray abruptly left the scene.

“The police had said that we should go and told my family privately to take me out of there and I was in too much state of shock that I just wanted to be with my family and my daughter,” said Brooks-Murray.

That day, the relationship between Brooks-Murray and the children's stepfather came to an end and she never returned to the mobile home, she said. When asked about the dynamics in the home prior to May 2 or why she never went back, Brooks-Murray declined to elaborate.
