A Tennessee man accused of killing four members of the same family, then kidnapping and abandoning a toddler is seeking to represent himself at his upcoming trial.

Huffman be removed so that he could serve as his own counsel, writing that "both the United States and Tennessee Constitutions guarantee the right of the accused to self-representation."Prosecutors have already filed a motion noting their intent to seek the death penalty in the case, which means that Drummond may be forced to launch a legal challenge to Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 13 in order to represent himself at trial.
Because this is a capital case, Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 13 states that "the court shall appoint two attorneys to represent a defendant at trial," and that both of those attorneys "must be licensed in Tennessee and have significant experience in Tennessee criminal trial practice."
Drummond has no legal experience, but a lengthy criminal history.
In 2013, a then-16-year-old Drummond robbed a Circle K at gunpoint. He was convicted of aggravated robbery in 2014 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to court records. Those records also show that three years were then added to his sentence the following year after Drummond threatened to retaliate against his victim and the jurors who convicted him during a phone conversation with his father while he was in custody.
He was released in September 2024 after serving roughly 11 years behind bars, and less than 10 months later was accused of killing four people: Cortney Rose, 38; Adrianna Williams, 20; Braydon Williams, 15; and James “Matthew” Wilson, 21.

Judge Mark Hayes cited “heightened procedural protections” in the high-profile case.

I am re-watching Life After Lockup, and a mormon chick married a guy as soon as he got our of jail, he was there for almost 20 years. Not murder, but still. People are crazy.

As Austin Drummond prepares to go to trial later this month, he continues to file motions in his murder case.
The latest is a motion to remove District Attorney Danny Goodman's office from prosecuting the case altogether, records show. Goodman is the District Attorney for the 29th Judicial District, which includes Lake and Dyer counties.
Documents obtained by FOX13 show Drummond, in his own handwriting, admits he was asked to be an informant for Goodman's office in April 2025.
He writes, "The prior relationship began in April of 2025 after a meeting between the Defendant, multiple state and federal law enforcement, and assistant district attorney Andrew Hays where Defendant agreed to work as an informant."
An exhibit in the filing is an email send by Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Andrew Hays from Goodman's office to the DA in Trousdale County, where Drummond was also facing charges for bringing contraband into prison.

A jury has returned guilty verdicts in the attempted murder trial of Austin Drummond and his codefendant Andre Brown on Friday.
This came after prosecutors and the defense rested their cases Friday and concluded their final arguments.
Jury deliberation lasted around two hours and returned guilty verdicts for Drummond on charges of attempted voluntary manslaughter and possessing contraband in a penal facility.
His codefendant was found guilty on attempted facilitation and not guilty of possessing contraband in a penal facility.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 31 in Lake County.
