The Cook County Medical Examiner announced on Monday that Caitlin Tracey, 36, died of "multiple injuries, fall from height."

Her body was found in the stairwell of her husband’s South Loop high-rise on Oct. 27, 2024.

While her cause of death is now confirmed, the office said it has not determined how or why she fell, and has listed her manner of death as "undetermined."

Her husband, Adam Beckerink, was arrested months later, on March 7, 2025, on a fugitive warrant out of Michigan.

According to Chicago police and court records, the arrest is not directly related to Tracey’s death.

Beckerink, 46, is a well-known tax attorney in Chicago. He was taken into custody at his South Loop condo—the same building where Tracey died.

The Michigan warrant stemmed from a domestic violence case in Berrien County, where Tracey had lived in a New Buffalo home before and during their six-month marriage.

Court records say police were twice called to Tracey's Michigan home in 2023. In one instance, she was reported to have visible injuries and accused Beckerink of assault and theft.

Beckerink faces six felony charges in Michigan, including domestic violence and resisting arrest.

Found at the base of her husband Adam Beckerink’s condo stairwell on October 27, her body was described as “pulverized” with one foot severed.

Adam, 46, had reported his 36-year-old wife missing a day before a resident found a severed foot in the stairwell of the building, located in the South Loop neighborhood.

The building manager later stumbled upon the deceased woman’s body in the stairwell, leading to cops arriving at the scene at 7:20 p.m. on October 27.

Upon preliminary investigation, the family was told that Caitlin may have fallen 24 floors before her body was discovered.

The family said their daughter’s body was “pulverized” and “her foot was severed from her body.”

Adam was initially detained and interrogated about the events leading up to Caitlin’s death, but he was later released without charges, pending further investigation.

He fucking killed her. It's painfully obvious! WTAF. I know that they need evidence, but how keenly did they investigate her injuries and the incident itself? It's a crazy world when someone can have a history of beating his wife and then this same wife being found with injuries that aren't consistent with a fall in their building and be just let go to live their life. Adam Beckerink stepped before a judge in Berrien County, Michigan, Tuesday on issues related to prior charges of domestic abuse against his now-deceased wife.

Beckerink sat in court, feet from his now deceased wife's family, as prosecutors played 911 calls of Caitlin Tracey crying and pleading for help, and never before seen body camera video of police intervening at her Michigan home.

The screams of Beckerink, charged with domestic abuse, were captured on police body camera video. The sounds echoed through the Berrien County, Michigan, courtroom. Held to the floor by police officers, in the video Beckerink wailed for help as his wife, Caitlin Tracey, laid nearby on the bed in tears. This was August 19, 2024.

It was Tracey who had called for help, pleading again for police intervention from a husband she had sought protective orders against. A New Buffalo police officer testified it happened repeatedly

An area native has been charged in Chicago with murder one year after his wife was found dead at the bottom of a stairwell in a high-rise condo building in Chicago.

Adam Beckerink, 47, of Chicago, is a Frewsburg native. He was charged in late October first first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Caitlin Tracey. Tracy’s body was found in October 2024 with a severed foot, skull and rib fractures.

He had pleaded no contest four days earlier domestic violence charges filed after a pair of incidents at Tracey’s home in Michigan.

Beckerink was sentenced to three months in jail related to that incident, as well as no contest to a charge of contempt of court after allegedly appearing at a court-ordered drug test intoxicated and defecating on the floor.

Adam Beckerink, the man suspected in the death of his estranged wife Caitlin Tracey who plunged more than 20 floors from his South Loop high rise in 2024, is expected to be extradited back to Illinois from Michigan next week.

Beckerink, 47, completed a 93-day sentence for a domestic abuse charge he was serving at Berrien County Jail, Celena R. Herbert, captain at the Michigan jail, said.

Tracey was the victim in the Michigan case. Court records show he was still in custody there Friday morning.

Berrien Jail officials say it’s possible Beckerink is extradited back to Illinois next week.

Adam Beckerink's attorneys are arguing to keep several pieces of evidence out of the public eye during his murder trial.

The legal battle centers around access to Beckerink's electronic devices, his mental health intake records when he was processed into Cook County jail, and his personal diaries.

Earlier this year, the Chicago tax attorney pleaded not guilty to nine counts against him including the murder of his 36-year-old wife, Caitlin Tracey, and the concealment of her body.

Also at issue is the testing of DNA evidence by the state. That testing may consume the remainder of that biological evidence.

Beckerink's attorneys telling the court their client has "a constitutional right to independently test the evidence the State intends to use against him," something that cannot happen if all evidence is consumed.
