Later he says that he almost didn't go to the service/viewing because he was worried about seeing her in an urn. So obviously, he knew going into the service that she would be cremated.

Welcome, and good catch on that inconsistency. I'm not surprised he can't keep his stories straight!

    - A body can be cremated any day of the week, at least in Indiana. We have a law that we have to wait 48 hours after death to cremate a body, and most other states have similar laws. Cremation takes 2-3 hours, some cooling off time, and another 1-2 hours of processing (after the body's organic material is evaporated/burned off, bone fragments are left - those are then put through a processor to turn it into the powdery, sandy substance the family is given). Total, it can take between 4-6 hours, or more.

    - Most funeral homes don't have an on-site crematory. I think Dick Tipps covered this in one of his commercials. They have a crematory, but it's not right next to the funeral home, and it's possible the crematory is separately staffed, and possible that the crematory serves multiple funeral homes, so many bodies are coming in and out. So in some ways, there are all sorts of negligent ways an accidental cremation could have happened, then the rental/temporary casket she was in during viewing was staged back in the funeral home by the staff when they realized their mistake. But as much as a lot of people are sold on this happening, I'm still doubtful.

    - Caskets are opened and closed with allen wrenches. We keep them all over the place. In our hearses, lead cars, drawers in the funeral home. Since the funeral home specifically said the casket was "broken into" I'd assume it was closed/locked, but it would be easy (at least IMO) for a person to find a wrench or tool to open the casket. Though I do have some timeline confusion: All of the articles say that she was likely stolen out of a private viewing area between 1:30 and 4:30... But they also say she was wheeled into a hall for the night. So was the hallway the private viewing area? Was she stolen before her casket was wheeled into the hallway? That wouldn't make sense, wouldn't they notice there is no human in the casket before they wheel it off and close it? Wouldn't the casket have been open for viewing, so no need to break into it? Is there something I'm missing? (Seriously, I haven't really dug too deep into this one so maybe I'm not remembering details, lol).

    - Some bodies are heavy, some not so much. I've helped a funeral director lift an embalmed woman into her casket after the hairdresser finished doing her hair on a gurney in the chapel - it was easier for two of us to lift her into her casket than to wheel her back to the prep room to use the body lift. I could see a determined, strong person being able to pull the body out of the casket.

    - Most funeral homes have a lot of entrances and exits, at least from my experience. At ours, we have a front door, side/delivery door, back door, and 2 sets of double doors in each chapel. There being no signs of forced entry doesn't mean shit, IMO. Someone could have gotten in through any door before everyone left, stayed hidden in the funeral home, and found a way out with the body (especially on a weekend when less staff is there - usually the bookkeeper, preplanner, aftercare provider, etc all only work Mon-Fri so their offices are empty all weekend). That's why during and after business hours, the body is usually in a chapel, or in a locked prep room/morgue.

Thanks for the awesome info, Katherine!

I have wondered if perhaps the Mission Park Crematory just doesn't do cremations after regular business hours on Saturday and not at all on Sundays (Mary also touched on this), which is why Julie wasn't scheduled to be moved there until Monday, and perhaps that is one reason the police are so certain it was not an accidental cremation.

That's an interesting point about the hallway vs. private viewing area. Hmmm.

As far as why the casket was closed, it wouldn't surprise me if they had to close it up to get Bill out of there. It sounds like they basically had to shove him out the front door and lock it (even thought they were still open) just to get rid of him!

This one got a huge amount of coverage - even down here, which is the only reason I know about it

Yeah that was a huge deal around here. I remember it well. Crematories all over the country are now more heavily regulated because of it.

I think I might have figured out what Bill's deal is with the ring he thought Julie was wearing in relation to the family picking up flowers and Julie not being prepared for cremation yet. He really just keeps totally busting himself. But I'm about to nod off, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow!

So I wonder what the viscosity of embalming fluid is? It has to be heavier/more dense than blood but still able to move freely through the circulatory system in order to properly embalm the body. Does that add much weight to the body?
Don't like what I have to say? I respect that. Go fuck yourself.

I think KWD said he'd have needed a trolley (or whatever they're called - being careful after the shopping cart confusion in the other thread) at least & I've seen a few other people who work in the industry say it would've been a 2 person job (they were assuming the person didn't have access to equipment to help them).

KWD needs to post more in here.

Ahh, yes. That makes perfect sense. We're only open Sundays if we have a visitation or a family coming in to make arrangements (can't bury on Sundays, cemeteries are closed). Otherwise, we're all at home and everything can wait until Monday. I don't recall us ever cremating a body on Sunday, but we have on Saturdays if we start early.

And even though I said "one strong, determined" person, or whatever, I actually do think that one person could have taken the body if they had a plan and knew a close door out. Julie was petite. I could see one person being able to lift her out, carry her to a vehicle only feet away, and drive off. The issue is how they managed to do it without anyone noticing.

As for the article about the on-call guy, maybe he did work for a pretty horrible place. But any time we get a call from a nurse or a coroner, they always let us know if the body is ready to be released (which 99% of the time it is, or else we wouldn't have gotten the call) or if they'll call us back when the family leaves or the Indiana Organ Procurement is finished, and whether or not the family is waiting with the deceased and will be there. I'd think that was pretty standard across the board. It sounds to me like he worked for a business that took calls for funeral homes, not directly for a funeral home itself. But I have no idea why anyone would be called before a death actually happened. Sometimes so-and-so will call to say their mom is about to die, and we'll explain to them that we're going to get some information from them (their name and number, where their mom is at, some basic info about their mom) and that they need to let the nurse on staff know what funeral home to call after their mom has passed. The info goes into our "pending calls" book, and we keep it in the back of our minds we'll be getting a call soon. We wouldn't just go and sit in a waiting room for god knows how long. So either this guy worked for some pretty horrible place, or a lot of stuff was fabricated.

But, I work at a really amazing family owned funeral home that really goes above and beyond. And my bosses are great at company moral. They pay our health insurance. We get regular raises. A few weeks ago another coworker and I were given $250 each and sent to go shopping together the rest of the day on the clock as a reward for all of the overtime we've been putting in. Just this week our bookkeeper, who is also HR, gave me and the new girl I'm training $25 gas cards and a really wonderful card telling us how great we're doing and how much they all appreciate us. It sounds cheesy, but it really makes us all feel appreciated and love our jobs lol. Especially since we're regularly on 8-10 day stretches before a day or two off. I promise we're not all creepy, empty, money sucking businesses. A funeral costs a lot of money but most of us do our best to give you the best experience we can.

    I dunno.

My posts are always super long

I really hope they find her body soon, or someone comes clean about what happened. I can't imagine what the family is going through.

Haha....chorps. most of what is written here is spoken by me and not typed and I haven't bothered to re read any of it.

As far as the repeated post about when and what I thought about her being cremated....I can recall that being her wish but I think even when you're in a relationship with a terminally ill person....nothing can really prepare you.

My reaction to my parents bringing it up was just that.....a moment of realization.
I remember my thought at that moment was that she's not only gone but gone gone. That was not how it was interpreted by the police and the media; most likely because they were trying quickly to point a finger.

I left the chapel around 130.
According to Jon, they didn't report her missing until around noon on Sunday after her mom had come and gone.
I've also heard that it was apparent from the outside of the casket that it had been tampered with.

    Is anyone following this?

Julie's mom also wrecked her car after the service.

Mission park has 6 suits for damages in the last 10 years.

    Why defend the funeral home.
I think until proven otherwise, there's no reason to not assume they screwed up.

    Or ...that creepy usher.
I wonder if he's related to the creepy funeral director.
I'm almost certain that he was crying the funeral.

Oh....and by the way Dick Tipps did not give a polygraph and neither has everyone that works there.

Yes. Yes, there is. BECAUSE IT'S WHAT THE POLICE SAY.

Now, I know the police are sometimes wrong, but you're asking us to believe that the police are wrong about EVERYTHING. They're wrong about who did it. They're wrong about what time it happened. They're wrong about how the person accessed the building. Yet you, who everyone here agrees is a demented dumbass, have it all figured out. Sure.

Soooo ... the creepy usher and funeral director. Did you suspect one of them of stealing the ring you gave Julie? I mean, when you crept into the funeral home, pried open that casket and saw she had not been prepared for cremation because she was still wearing her jewelry -- everything except that ring you gave her -- that must've really sent you off the rails, huh? Or did you think Dick Tips did it, which is why you have such an irrational hatred of him?

That has been their moronic response though.

The lead stated that "all avenues have been explored".

I don't particularly like Dick Tipps because he owns the funeral home that was responsible for the loss of her remains and to me....reporting it stolen is refusing to take responsibility.

As for the ring....I'm about 90% sure she was wearing it.
For Jon to argue that, just makes it more pointless to talk about.

I'm not going to ask Julie's brother to prove that they still have the ring.
He's done three really odd things since the beginning of this.

    1. While we were looking at Julie together he stated that if I want to touch her, her elbow would be a good place "it's still a squishy part".

I've shrugged that off as just a stupid thing to say.

    2. Stated that not only was Julie not wearing my ring but that they "the family" don't have it.

This is only bothersome to me when you think about when the remains were reported missing.

The third thing.....Why defend the funeral home.

I was in love with Julie. We lived together for 6 years. Why would he defend the funeral home and try blame this on me?

One of my biggest regrets.....not being strong enough for.
She stopped taking care of herself.

I doubt anyone here knows what it's like to tell someone that they have to go home because you can't bare the thought of waking up next to their dead body.

Let me also let you guys in on a little tid bit about me.
I'm absolutely terrified of blood and germs.
I don't touch door handles in public places and I pass out within seconds of seeing anyone's blood if it's not my own.

So you can just stop with the whole "trying to catch Bill in the act" routine.

The detectives are in fact reading this so any thoughts on what could have happen might actually help......

    Go back to Mission Park!

    IP addresses are access points.....

Which has nothing to do with what we're talking about....Oliva lives a boring life.

I brought up Julie's mom wrecking car because you would think would think that they would file suite as well....

    Suite for her actual damages.
She might have not wrecked her car if Mission Park did what they were supposed to do.

Not defending Bill, just a general statement. I side eye exactly how keenly the Police investigated this because Dick Tips seems to own an awful lot in that town. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he has them in his pocket. Just sayin.

No, we wouldn't. Just because they haven't figured out what you did with her doesn't mean you didn't do it and that they haven't eliminated all other possibilities. There are many criminals roaming around free simply because police don't have enough to evidence to charge them, not because they're innocent.

Yeah, I get it, even if you stole her remains, the funeral home was still responsible for securing her body. That doesn't absolve you of responsibility, dear.

Right ... because you always write off the important stuff as "pointless" or "circumstantial," in an attempt to get us to ignore it. Got it.

Nevermind the fact that you already busted yourself with all this ring talk, because you were adamant she had not been prepped for cremation when you shouldn't even have known that. But nothing to see here, folks!

And no, you have not "shrugged off" what Jon said. Earlier, you said he said something so creepy you couldn't even type the words. Then he explained it, and it didn't sound as creepy as you'd like us to believe. Now you're bringing it up again to make him look bad.

    According to you:

    John is creepy.
    The usher was creepy.
    The funeral director was creepy.

Well, what the fuck are you? Projecting, much?

So she was like 16 or 17 when you moved in together?

I don't touch door handles in public places and I pass out within seconds of seeing anyone's blood if it's not my own.

Embalmed bodies don't have any blood, but nice try.

    Suite for her actual damages.
She might have not wrecked her car if Mission Park did what they were supposed to do.
Yes my life is as boring as someone who uses fake ip's to access an Internet forum to talk to people they've described as losers. It's like I've taken the shovel off you, and you keep digging your own grave (ironically) with a fork. Keep going.
