I found this link in the comments in the articles you posted. The grandmother states she suctioned Jahi when she began bleeding. Grandmother could have made the bleeding worse if her suctioning efforts were aggressive. I don't think its appropriate for family to be using suction on a patient fresh out of surgery. The grandmother looks very young. I would have pegged her for a college student...damn, she has aged well.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZhhTWhlW9c

Nurses cannot treat their family members. My mom(who is a BSN)got in trouble for helping my grandpa walk to bed while he was staying at the hospital she worked at.

What was she using to suction the blood?

The last hope for Jahi McMath to be kept on a ventilator may come from a former Long Island hairdresser who runs a brain-injury treatment center dedicated to Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman whose case sparked a fierce nationwide end-of-life debate.

On Tuesday, the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network said publicly for the first time that it has been helping Jahi's family for weeks to find a place to transfer the 13-year-old Oakland girl declared brain-dead by doctors. The network has worked "in relative silence for the sake of the sensitivity of her case."

"Jahi McMath has been labeled a 'deceased' person. Yet she retains all the functional attributes of a living person, despite her brain injury," the organization said. "This includes a beating heart, circulation and respiration, the ability to metabolize nutrition and more. Jahi is a living human being."

New Beginnings founder and owner Allyson Scerri shared a statement on her Facebook page Tuesday explaining how her Medford, N.Y.-based facility "is about preserving life and treating brain-injured patients with care and dignity."

"We do encourage every citizen to take the time to educate themselves more clearly on the issues of what brain death is and what it is not," the New Beginnings statement read. "This child has been defined as a deceased person, yet she has all the functional attributes of a living person despite her brain injury."

Jahi's attorney identified the facility in court documents Monday, when a judge extended a restraining order to Jan. 7, at least temporarily preventing Children's Hospital Oakland from removing the girl from a ventilator. Jahi came to the hospital Dec. 9 for tonsil surgery and two other procedures to remove throat and nasal tissue, all to treat her sleep apnea. But complications led to six doctors declaring her brain-dead. The hospital has said it will not treat a "dead" body, and has asked for the life support to be removed.

The hospital has said it would transfer Jahi if her family and attorney meet certain provisions.

While Scerri has not returned multiple calls for comment, it's clear from court documents and social media comments she is interested in bringing Jahi to her facility.

On Dec. 27, Scerri posted "LETS SAVE JAHI" on her Facebook page and shared a link to a Jahi page. Two days later, she posted: "We can not let this 13 year old girl die........New Beginnings will take her under our WINGS." The facility even created a YouTube video and message to Jahi and her family.

By Tuesday, Scerri wrote: "Jahi is responding to her mothers voice and touch...........Brain dead REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A statement from the facility said they hope to release further comments later Tuesday about the "little angel who deserves a chance to be cared for with dignity and respect."

Scerri founded New Beginnings -- an outpatient facility designed for patients with traumatic brain injury, and physical and cognitive disabilities -- in 2011, four years after her father fell off his motorcycle and suffered a severe brain injury. The hair stylist became his primary caregiver and struggled to find adequate resources for him, according to the New Beginnings website.

At its opening in April 2011, Scerri told Newsday, "My goal is to offer one place where someone with traumatic brain injuries can come to get all the therapies they need under one roof."

Hospital Oakland, Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 in Oakland, Calif. (D. Ross Cameron/Bay Area News Group)

The brother and mother of Schiavo participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the first medical facility in the country dedicated to the Florida woman. Schiavo, who was in a vegetative state and not declared brain-dead, was kept on life support for 15 years before being removed against the wishes of her siblings and parents.

Schiavo's brother Bobby Schindler, executive director of Terri's Network, disputed the idea of "brain death."

"Families and individuals must educate themselves regarding their rights as patients, the advance documentation that must be completed prior to any medical procedure as well as how to ensure ... any patient's rights," he said.

"Every person needs to understand that medical accidents happen every day. Families and individuals must be more aware of the issue of accountability and patient rights."

In a letter to Jahi's attorney Christopher Dolan, Scerri told him the facility would accept Jahi into its outpatient center and eventually move her into the Brendan House facility, now under construction, for long-term care.

"We will be providing Jahi McMath 24-hour licensed nursing staff and licensed respiratory therapists," she wrote. "We are also hiring a pediatrician who will accept her as his patient."

The family still must get Jahi to the facility. A letter from Medway Air Ambulance quotes a price of $31,910 to transport Jahi from Oakland to Long Island.

Medway flight coordinator Terry Hoard confirmed his company quoted the family a price and would have no problem transporting a brain-dead patient across country.

I feel the same BB. So very sad to give this family false hope. But they haven't understood from the beginning, she is gone.

I don't wish harm upon her (she's dead, I know) or her family, but everytime I come to this thread, I hope to read about a funeral. This has gone on too long.

    news article today:
1/5/14 15:58 PST -- Jahi McMath will move out of Children's Hospital Oakland and into a new facility before 5 p.m. Tuesday, the court-ordered deadline preventing the hospital from disconnecting the brain-dead teen from a ventilator, her family's attorney said Sunday.

Christopher Dolan, speaking on a local television station, said Jahi is alive and he has a plan in place to move her.

"I have the medical staff, the facility, the transport ... Wheels are in motion. We have a clear path," he said. "I have everything in place. We just need to get it all in motion. And come hell or high water, that's what I'm going to do."

He declined to name the facility or other details about the transfer.

A spokesman for the hospital said staff had not heard of any imminent plans to relocate Jahi's body.

Jahi's family and her attorney do not believe the girl is dead, citing her beating heart and occasional movements. "She's not passed," Dolan said Sunday. "Her heart beats. Her kidneys function. She regulates her body temperature. ... She should not be treated as a dead person."

In documents filed in federal court on Friday, the director of Children's pediatric intensive care unit said that movements by a brain-dead person are not uncommon and are not an indication that Jahi is alive.

The movements are caused by spinal and muscular reflexes, said Dr. Heidi Flori.

"We anticipate that muscle activity will continue over time, given that Ms. McMath's body is being sustained" by a ventilator, care by a nursing staff and an IV drip providing fluids, salt and carbohydrates, she said.

Nonetheless, the condition of Jahi's body is declining overall, she said. "The body continues to deteriorate with a gradual decrease in blood pressure."

and NB has made a statement that they are the mystery facility:
    1/5/14 7:43 PM EST

"At this time we're named as the potential facility that Jahi and her family will be coming to, but we will know more details in a couple of hours, and we'll certainly be happy to let you know as we know," said Allyson Scerri, founder of the New Beginnings Community Center in Medford, New York.

So I guess they're going to set up a tiny ICU in a room at their OP facility? I'm intrigued by how they think they are going to accomplish this. Are they going to rent a ventilator, cardiac monitor, pulse oximeter, hospital bed, infusion pump(s), suction machine? Are they going to run the ventilator off of oxygen and air tanks? How are they going to purchase the supplies, IV catheters, suction catheters, the myriad of supplies an ICU patient needs daily? Who is going to oversee this huge project? I guarantee the head of the facility has no clue what is involved, seeing as how her credentials consist of cosmetology school. They'll need to find a lab to run bloodwork, a nutritionist to set up the tube feedings...do they have an MD who is qualified to care for a brain dead patient on a ventilator? So many questions...I just don't see how this is going to work.

Jahi McMath was quickly and quietly moved from Children's Hospital of Oakland Sunday evening, the hospital attorney and her uncle confirmed.

The move came hours after the her family's attorney said they would be moving her to a treatment facility before a Tuesday deadline "come hell or high water" before Tuesday's deadline for the hospital to turn off her ventilator.

Christopher Dolan told KPIX 5 that the family has lined up a facility, transportation and a medical staff for the 13-year-old, who has been on a ventilator at Children's Hospital Oakland since developing complications and suffering cardiac arrest after a three-part surgery to remove her tonsils and clear tissue from her nose and throat at the facility Dec. 9.

On Friday, the family and hospital agreed through a compromise forged in Alameda Superior Court that Jahi's mother may remove her from the hospital as long as Jahi's mother, Nailah Winkfield, takes responsibility for the child's care.

"We have what we need right now," Dolan told the station Sunday. "Everything is in place. I just need to get it moving."

When pressed further, Dolan said earlier Sunday that he had put into place "the medical staff, the facilities. We have transportation. We just need to get it all in motion. ... Come hell or high water, that's what I'm gonna do."

His comments came as a deadline of 5 p.m. Tuesday looms to have Jahi transferred. A temporary restraining order granted by Judge Evelio Grillo forces the hospital to keep Jahi on a ventilator until then. After the deadline, the hospital may remove her from the ventilator if Jahi has not been moved.

Dolan did not immediately return multiple interview requests from this newspaper. Hospital spokesman Sam Singer said the facility has been made aware of the plan and the pledge made by Dolan to have Jahi in another facility.

"We are taking him at his word," he said. "And we hope he keeps it."

Dolan did not say where the facility was located or from where the transportation would come, but court documents revealed that the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network has been working to place her in a New York facility and that Georgia-based Medway Air Ambulance would provide the transportation.

A call to the Life & Hope Network went unanswered Sunday morning. An email to MedWay Air Ambulance president Rick Moore was not answered immediately. Court documents said the approximate cost to transport Jahi was just shy of $32,000; the Jahi McMath page at the gofundme.com website said Tuesday that $47,842 had been raised for Jahi by Sunday morning.

Alameda County Sheriff's Office spokesman J.D. Nelson said Friday that a death certificate has been issued for Jahi, but Dolan insisted in Sunday's interview that "she has not passed. Her kidneys function, she regulates her temperature, and her body moves now more than ever. This is a real human being, not a dead body."

The hospital, however, continued to dispute that, as well as Dolan's assertion that Children's Hospital Oakland has "withheld food for 26 days," the result of which has "kept Jahi (from receiving) nutrients that might help her brain to be at an optimum place" for recovery.

"Sadly ... Mr. Dolan is not being truthful to the public or his clients," Singer said. "When he says his 'medical team' wants to feed her body so her brain will have the optimum nutrients, he is either being purposely deceptive or ignorant. In either case, he is perpetuating a sad and tragic hoax on the public and the McMath family. Tragically, this young woman is dead, and there is no food, no medical procedures and no amount of time that will bring back the deceased."

The agreement states that the hospital will allow a transfer team to enter the facility and move out Jahi, with her entire health responsibility, and the responsibility of the move falling to the mother. Jahi's tubes from the ventilator are to be removed and placed into the transport team's equipment, along with other devices, and her body will be moved from the hospital's gurney to a new one. Her medical records, medications and a status report also will be handed over, and the hospital will sever ties with her, the agreement states.

"Now we have a clear path," Dolan told the station. "When you have a clear path, you begin running, especially when time is ticking down."

Atty said in the press conference that she will go to a facility to get the trache and g-tube, then to another facility where she will stay. REALLY curious as to what facility would consent to do these procedures!

"The body of Jahi McMath was released by Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland to the coroner," said David Durand, the hospital's chief of pediatrics. "The coroner has released her body to the custody of her mother, Latasha Winkfield, as per court order, for a destination unknown."
She left the hospital accompanied by a critical care team, attached to a ventilator, but with no feeding tube in place.

"We've had people make threats from around the country. It's sad that people act that way," Dolan said. "So for Jahi's safety and those around her, we will not be saying where she went or where she is."

On Friday, the Alameda County coroner issued a death certificate for Jahi.
The certificate, which still needed to be accepted by the health department to become official, listed December 12 as her date of death.

Im not trying to be a dick or anything but this family is clearly in denial and being led along by an ambulance chasing lawer. The jokes about this little girl just seem harsh to me. Comments about getting her hair done by this lady for her funeral are off to me.

All we can do is hope that these people will realize that this little girl needs to rest in peace.

    dammit, i can't rep you.

i hope this charade is over soon, for the sake of this deceased child. i am sure the people at the children's hospital are happy to be away from her family, like i cannot even imagine the tension and frustration that went on there.

No, the mom did not take her home...she was released to her mom's custody and this harebrained reporter took that to mean to the mom's home. Sad excuse for journalism!

All we can do is hope that these people will realize that this little girl needs to rest in peace.
I can respect your opinion. It's just my opinion that it is the Family that has turned this in to a joke. Not me. And Yes, this lawyer is scum. I've said it from the beginning. I wouldn't say something that harsh 2 weeks ago or even a week ago. But people have minds of their own lawyer or No lawyer. And it seems to me that the Family has turned this from not accepting her death in to a pissing match which I think is the REAL harsh. What i say as a joke will never be as horrible as what they're doing to her body by not giving her a proper burial. Or what they've done to her legacy.

So it's a difference in opinion.
