Not me. It's hard for me to comprehend, how so many people can have so little compassion, for the family of someone so horrendously murdered. Yes, I see that they believe Jodi was abused, the mormons did it, PPL, the Hugh's, HLN. Why is it so hard to believe that she admitted to doing this, when she flat out admitted it? Regardless of anything I believe about Jodi's family, I have compassion. It wasn't their fault she did this.

How could anyone possibly say such vicious things about people who are COMPLETELY innocent? Their only crime is loving their brother, and wanting justice for his murderer. Metis, help me out here. Why do these people do and believe such things? I just don't get it.

As interesting as this trial has been to see, read about and talk about, after seeing Travis' brother and sister today I really wish the media would re-think their coverage of trials, especially covering them so much and in such a way to make them high-profile. Dr. Samuels' testimony notwithstanding, it seems obvious who has truly experienced trauma and PTSD, and my heart goes out to Travis' family. Having to wait almost 5 years for a trial to begin would be difficult enough for the victim's loved ones, but also having to watch or be aware of constant reporting of the (alleged) murderer up until and then during the trial must contribute greatly to their pain. Travis' brother sounded so grief-stricken when he said he never wants to have to see the murderer again. I can only imagine how horrible the constant Jodi coverage must have felt, and still feels (e.g., her interview minutes after the verdict). I'm glad we have the First Amendment and freedom of the press is of course a good thing, but I have never respected the press when they use crime victims for ratings. I realize the media's antics are nothing new, but today's impact statements made me understand just a little bit of the pain the victim's family endures prior to and during a trial. I wish the press would consider that and just report trials factually in the newspaper (or briefly on television) as they unfold and never sensationalize. (I hope I'm not sounding hypocritical because I've been following this trial for the last month, but I have mostly ignored HLN and only watch the actual proceedings on livestream and then read here for others' opinions and to discuss things. Human behavior and the judicial system are both interesting topics, and I don't think reading and discussing them is sensationalizing the crime or hurting the family.)

(Wow... sorry for my lack of commas in my post above. I wish I had proof-read. I would pay for membership so that I could edit, but that mean-spirited sub-thread (which took over Coconut's original thread) made me realize that I won't be venturing out of this thread when this trial is over, I won't need the membership.)

The only way that anything can be done is to become involved in victim rights legislation. This trial has the potential for good; questioning the rights of internet citizens and the court of public opinion slamming prosecutors, defense attorneys, expert witnesses etc., how can we the public lift the real victims of violent crimes, and lastly the ongoing questions about the death penalty vs life without parole. Travis and his siblings deserve better treatment than they got. From the temple of my heart, I grieve with them and pray their suffering be short.

I will give my theory until Metis arrives and can give you a better and more professional answer:
Some people can never get past the childish "Us vs Them" stage of emotional development. Whatever "side" they are on is right, absolutely right, all the time, 100% right, and whoever or whatever is on the other "side" is wrong, absolutely wrong, all the time, 100% wrong. These are people unable to use higher reason or logic to come to a more balanced or realistic conclusion. Everything is black and white.

So, in this case, since Travis' innocent family is on the "opposite side" from the JAII folks, they must be evil and nasty and deserving of scorn and hatred.

Sadly, we sometimes see the same on MDS, but not nearly as rabidly as on JAII.

Dude, Stabby was totally small-smiling or whatever when she was "crying" during the VIS. So sick, taking pleasure out of their pain.

Sorry if someone's mentioned any of this already. I don't know anyone involved obviously, but I mentioned this doco about 200pgs ago. It screened in Australia a few years back, ran for an hour at least & mostly showed him partying with his boyfriend & others. There were discussions of drug-use & much hilarity over the great time they were having. He spent a lot of on-screen time draped over his boyfriend & gleefully exposed his hormone-enhanced breasts a few times- he talked about his new tits & how great all the sex & drugs were lots more. It was filmed just a few years before his death. To be honest, when I heard he was dead, I wondered if he'd mixed coke & a new sex partner & overloaded his heart like so many other men his age.

I do expect there was quite an uproar as the public became aware of just how "hard " Richard Speck had really been doing his time all these years. Your friend is probably 100% right about his FINAL days of incarceration & death. That documentary shone a harsh light on the facility that allowed this to happen. I doubt that management/staff enjoyed the exposure that came after it screened & I bet he was sorry he opened his big mouth & bragged about what he'd been able to do for decades. I'm hope that within days of the first screening, the party was well & truly over. But his own words on screen were delivered with laughter & went something like "if all them people knew how much fun I had here all this time they'd TURN ME LOOSE laugh, laugh, backslapping LAUGH"

Ruthven: Whew, I'm glad it wasn't just me! I was just re-watching the Impact Statements and, I swear to god, every time arias hid her stinky mouth with her non-broken-finger-hand, it looked like she was stifling laughs. I tried & tried & tried to give the creature the benefit of what little doubt I have left (which is none) but realized that would be wrong. I do wish she'd have a little more finesse, though; I think she still believes she's fooling us and it's getting downright embarrassing to watch. I expect more subtlety from my cold-blooded murderers and she's a piss-poor one. Poseur!

Yeah, I've lived on both coasts. I just figured there could be some out-of-town folks in Mesa for the trial fallout. Considering Jodi's ability to wheedle herself interview time right after receiving her guilty verdict, I wouldn't be surprised if she was trying to make deals (perhaps for perks or pay for her family), from the highest bidder. I thought though, surely no one would be stupid enough to approach after the judge declared no more interviews. You just never know with media folks though.

I agree. I owned a DJ company with an ex-bf a few years back. We would've been a little put-out if a guest had just busted out their karaoke machine mid-gig, no warning.

I thought that she spelled her name Donavan? Is she trying to be slick or something?

I didn't know for sure how she spelled it. I guess it could not be her. But if it was a parody acct it would have some crazy posts.

She doesn't have much on there. It may very well be her thinking that she'll fool people.

You're not the only 2, I was inquiring about it on here as well. It seemed like you could see the corners of her mouth turn upward when she hid her mouth behind her hand. Sneakers noticed it, too.

Couple of random thoughts. Jodi's post-verdict interviewer, Troy Hayden, follows her on twitter.

I was just thinking about today's defense team shenanigans. If Patti was dressed like too much of a skankaroo to be seen by the jury, why didn't they call Darryl instead? I doubt he was clad in cut-offs and a tank top.

Just another stall job by a defense team that is never prepared. Remember, the DT tried to get access to what Steven and Samantha were going to say today -- no doubt so they could craft Jodi's speech and the two "friends" as well -- and they were denied. Well, now they have 3 days to work on it, don't they?
