I thought it was interesting that Ann Campbell (? I think that's who it is sitting next to the man sitting next to JA's mom) is crying through Steven's statement. I thought it was interesting that even Jodi's "Supporters" are affected by the statements. I hope they are beginning to see how cruel and horrible she is

Oh, no worries, I assumed you were speculating. I just wondered if anyone knew if I was true or not.

The guy who bought the right to the video (it was smuggled out) does not do America's Most but another famous show.
    Bull Kurtis, Investigative Reports

    Per Wikipedia:

In May 1996, Chicago television news anchor Bill Kurtis received video tapes made at Stateville Prison in 1988 from an anonymous attorney. Showing them publicly for the first time before the Illinois state legislature, Kurtis pointed out the explicit scenes of sex, drug use, and money being passed around by prisoners, who seemingly had no fear of being caught; in the center of it all was Speck, performing oral sex on another inmate,[41][42] sharing a huge pile of cocaine with an inmate, parading in silk panties, sporting female-like breasts (allegedly grown using smuggled hormone treatments), and boasting, "If they only knew how much fun I was having, they'd turn me loose."[41] The Illinois legislature packed the auditorium to view the two-hour video,[41] but stopped the screening when the film showed Speck performing oral sex on another man.[42]

From behind the camera, a prisoner asked Speck why he killed the nurses. Speck shrugged and jokingly said, "It just wasn't their night." Asked how he felt about himself in the years since, he said, "Like I always felt ... had no feeling. If you're asking me if I felt sorry, no." He also described in detail the experience of strangling someone: "It's not like TV ... it takes over three minutes and you have to have a lot of strength."[41] John Schmale, the brother of one of the murdered student nurses, said, "It was a very painful experience watching him tell about how he killed my sister." [43]

Portions of the tapes were later broadcast on the A&E Network's Investigative Reports. The same airing of Investigative Reports included interviews with people who believed Speck was not taking hormones, wearing panties, etc. voluntarily, and he'd instead been forced to by other inmates — this may have been his way of surviving his time in prison.

People can act inappropriately when they are under major stress. However, so is the entire Alexander family, and their behavior and strength has been admirable.

Maybe someone should have given her a little heads-up, and told her what her behavior looked like to the outside world.
To me, it's more than just their inappropriate court room behavior. Jodi's mom tried to sell the forged pedo letters, to the National Enquirer. She sits in court with a "Domestic Abuse" ribbon on. Even though she knew; she said herself to Flores that when she found out Travis was dead, she asked Jodi "Did you do this?" She knew what Jodi was capable of.

I can guarantee -- and we probably all can say this -- that if one of my exes turned up dead, my mom would not so much as entertain the thought that I had anything to do with it. Jodi's mom knew it right away. She knew Jodi could do it.

Aside from that, the fact that the aunt is now running around on facebook or twitter (maybe both) writing cruel comments about the Alexanders? The fact that this idiot is apparently a member of that horrid JAII site? The one where they posted a picture of a body bag and joked about it? The one where they continue to drag Travis through the mud? Sue Arias apparently likes to immerse herself in that. To me, that is a disgusting excuse for a human being.

It's not that they support Jodi. That's one thing and you could understand a family supporting a loved one, even if they are a killer. But, to do things to demean the victim and his family? Unconscionable.

Anyone associated with Jodi seems to be a lowlife, with the possible exception of her father.

I feel bad for her entire family. I don't think that they acted appropriately at times but it has to be hard knowing that your child could committ such a brutally sick murderer and that you will lose them to prison or the death penalty.
My POV on her family is this: yes, they will lose her to prison, and I'm sure that sucks for them. A few times I have tried to put myself in Sandy Arias' shoes, except it doesn't exactly work because I loathe Jodi. BUT, her family will still get to visit her in prison. They will get to see her face and hear her voice. They will be able to write to her, and I believe she can write to them. Travis' family cannot do any of that. They can visit him, as Steven said, at a 3X5' by 8' by 6' grave site. They have to look at photos to see his face, watch videos or listen to voice mails (if any of them are saved) to hear his voice. They can write him letters and take them to his grave. They will never receive a letter back from him. IF Jodi gets death, the average time on death row is 12 years. I'm not saying that's enough time, because I feel like there is never enough time, but her family still has at least 12 more years with her (barring anything happening to her beforehand). So yeah, it sucks for them but they still get time with her, and they will get to say goodbye to her (if she's executed). Travis' family does not, and they did not get to say goodbye to him before he died.

I can't quote on my phone, but I watched it and I agree that Jodi really was crying. And she looks a mess. She's got to be heavily medicated because I swear during the first part when Nurmi was speaking and when JM was speaking I thought she was going to nod off. Those eyes were hardly open until the impact statements.

The statements were definitely sad and powerful. If I wasn't sure whether she should get the death penalty, I am sure now. She deserves the needle. She destroyed an entire family and for what? What reason did she have to kill him? What is it that made her think that it was ok to slaughter a man...what was she thinking?? Fuck. It's just terrible.

But, they are not like the tears from the Alexander family, they are tears of regret. I think JA does regret killing him, but not because Travis is gone, regret at what that action has done to her. Regret at the consequences of her action. I have no doubt she wishes she could go back in time, but she doesn't care about the death of Travis, she cares about the fallout of the murder and the impact it has in her.

Jinkosaurus said something very fitting about the victim impact statements, she noted the authenticity of what was said. That word resonated with me - authentic. The Alexander siblings talked about what Travis' death has done to the family as well as to the two individuals. The fallout of his death is like a shockwave from a bomb, it just keeps going. I found it, like all of you, very moving and touching. Authentic.

In contrast, I have never heard the convict speak of the murder in terms of the effect on others. Although we don't say it, the convict's family is also destroyed and not once, have I heard her speak to what horror she has brought to them. Her actions and reactions are false and self-serving.

Authentic. That is not lost in the jury.

I agree 100%. I am not afraid to admit that I feel buckets of pain for his family and a spoonful of it for Arias.

Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow, but one day it will hit her full on. Not much in this world that is as hard to live with as regret. I know what she did is horrible, and the lies and the accusations are sickening, but I truly believe that no one hates Jodi more than Jodi hates Jodi.

    How ironic is that.
Bitterly ironic. If only there were ways to give the power of mercy only to the loved ones/families/next of kin of victims. Who the hell are the rest of us to determine mercy when someone's loved one has been tortured and murdered? I wish it was possible to grant that to the victim's kin. Elements from Shakespeare come to mind ' "The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven. Upon the place beneath. It is twice blessed: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes................ And earthly power doth then show likest God’s When mercy seasons justice..." Forgive the quote. I guess my feelings on the death penalty have been challenged to the max in this case. Family wishes should be far more important than the rest of a society's, after proper legal process, for first degree murder. Is mercy even meaningful without them? I know all of the rational arguments against what I am saying... outrage is what I am expressing. I guess - at how victims and their families are treated.

So many posts like the ones above illustrate how touching today's impact testimonies have been. GE, it seems like they have some financial help now and emotional support but
how effective that has been? We may learn more only after the trial.

How can Arias possibly have anything to say of value today? Would anyone believe last minute remorse?

I agree with JAII in that HLN has lost its damn mind. ( Not anything currently on air)

Sam and Steve had really good impact statements.

I agree with Metis on this one. Richard Speck was one sick fuck. I was a young kid when his crimes happened. I read the book "Crime of the Century" that was written about him. I thought it interesting as well. I wondered if they ever believed her? I think there is a world of difference in believing IN your child and believing your child.<--as far as her kin family. Her friends? I don't really know. I imagine its incredibly difficult to believe all of this. I would flip were I in those shoes. As a mother, I just can't even imagine how i would react. I know I would still love my child. but I would be devastated. That is why I don't understand her family. The ribbons, selling the fake letters etc. It's hard to wrap my head around any of this. from either perspective, its terrible and tragic

Anniebelle - are you actually agreeing with ME! Metis said quite the opposite. They said - no, he did not do all those things because she knows a relative of one of the survivors, or someone who worked at the prison. I only know that I SAW that smuggled out video and it was truly disgusting. I was amazed at how he could grow tits in jail!

Especially in Max security....it's survival of the fittest.
Thankfully you do recall all of that. Metis made statements without verifying the facts. I now recall that the name of the man who runs that national crime show is Kurtis. He bought the rights to the smuggled out video. Speck was a sick as they get. I am surprised that IL did not put him to death. I am not sure if he plead insanity.

To be clear: PIO from @marcoattorney is the one who says friends will speak next. He says "it's not 100%" certain but "likely." #JodiArias

She's probably getting her scripted response from the DT and needs time to look it over so that she can try to appear authentic.

Funny thing is, didn't Nurmi say that Jodi had lost contact with this woman "through her 20s"? So, in other words, she didn't talk to or really know what Jodi was in the years leading up to and including her murdering Travis. They couldn't get any friend (aside from Darryl) who actually knew her in that time of 2000-2008, to speak on her behalf?

Also the way he said it almost made it sound as if it was Travis' fault that they lost touch.

Apparently Ms. Womack who is #jodiarias's childhood best friend needs special attention. She's in chamber's with the Judge is why we're late
    Drunk or high?

As for the Jodi crying/not crying debate, we all have our interpretations. For me, I did not see wet eyes. I did not see tears on her face or cheeks. I saw her putting a tissue to her nose, but I never saw her wipe her eyes. If tears were falling, I believe she would've brushed them away with a tissue, or even her hands.

I just don't feel she was crying.
