She will probably get to work out too. Use the law library. I don't agree with tv or radio either. Does she get to use a computer during community time?

Considering she did it after Samantha gave her statement and supposedly stared daggers at Jodi (after the jury was gone), I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jodi was taunting the Alexander family.

Maybe it's a harmless gesture, but I've never seen anyone do that to, say scratch their neck.

Exactly what I was thinking. Had she even met 1 of them?
I agree. I think if she was smart she would STFU. The jury already doesn't believe her. If she gets up there and acts apologetic, I don't think they're going to buy it. Plus, talking head defense attorneys have said she can't express remorse or responsibility because it will endanger her chance for appeal since she's claiming self-defense. And if she gets up there and is defiant and insistent with continuing their lies? Jury already doesn't believe her, and with the Alexanders' words today, Jodi claiming Travis was abuser still, is not going to fly with the jury.

I think, if she cries at all, it will be because she's scared of being put to death.

I don't believe Jodi has ever met any of Travis' family.

He mentioned Travis being his big brother, but I don't know how many years apart they are. Also, "I thought my brother was bulletproof." just as you would the people you look up to.

This is going to sound stupid, but I wish Napoleon could give an impact statement. I'm sure he has missed his owner very much.

Does anyone know if they were not allowed to address Jodi by name in their statements? Like Steven stating he will never get the answer to the questions he has of his brothers death "because Jodi Arias refuses to tell us". That kind of thing. Or perhaps they chose not to give her that kind of power by mentioning her.
Nah, it's not stupid. Dogs know when their owners are gone. I'm sure that little guy knew and was heartbroken that Travis never came back. :( I'm just grateful that he ended up with Deanna, and I know she has given and will continue to give Napoleon a great life and lots of love!

You'd think they'd at least let her mom make a statement.

    It's a really nice tie.
I think I should have worded that differently I have no idea how trials work, especially this part of them. I thought I saw someone say they were allowed to bring in the evidence that was to prejudicial for the trial. So I assumed he could bring that in if the mom tried to speak for her. I really have no idea though, so I am very sorry for posting it as though it is fact!

Jodi will never live in the general population, she will be segregated because she is a "celebrity". If she is given LWOP she must pay for her appeals, if she gets dp, we pay for her appeals and to me she is not worth another red cent. She will become a death penalty celebrity and her heinous crime will be forgotten as dp opponents will fight for her life.

Her death, if she gets the dp will be a gentle one. It will be just like going to sleep, no pain, no suffering and no anxiety. I want her to have a natural death, like Richard Speck. When Speck had his heart attack, the health care professionals responded to the code with a very slow walk so he would be dead by the time they got to him. I want that she experience the pain of natural death and face her maker for the ultimate judgment.

Free food, free sex, free drugs and hormones. He should have been put to death. These people feel no remorse, no guilt and cannot love!
Yup..... stabby would absolutely thrive in prison and she does NOT deserve to thrive! she has single handedly destroyed many lives and has ZERO remorse!!!!! I've been out for a few days with a disgusting migraine (not a stabby style migraine) it still hurts if I read to much so I'm off and on here

I feel bad for her entire family. I don't think that they acted appropriately at times but it has to be hard knowing that your child could committ such a brutally sick murderer and that you will lose them to prison or the death penalty.

Many people have commented on the "fake" crying the convict has done today. I, respectfully, would beg to differ: those tears are real. But, they are not like the tears from the Alexander family, they are tears of regret. I think JA does regret killing him, but not because Travis is gone, regret at what that action has done to her. Regret at the consequences of her action. I have no doubt she wishes she could go back in time, but she doesn't care about the death of Travis, she cares about the fallout of the murder and the impact it has in her.

Jinkosaurus said something very fitting about the victim impact statements, she noted the authenticity of what was said. That word resonated with me - authentic. The Alexander siblings talked about what Travis' death has done to the family as well as to the two individuals. The fallout of his death is like a shockwave from a bomb, it just keeps going. I found it, like all of you, very moving and touching. Authentic.

In contrast, I have never heard the convict speak of the murder in terms of the effect on others. Although we don't say it, the convict's family is also destroyed and not once, have I heard her speak to what horror she has brought to them. Her actions and reactions are false and self-serving.

Authentic. That is not lost in the jury.

Well, I am not arguing with you. I found it just unbelievable when they showed speck w long blonde hair, boobs and doing drugs. I saw it. So, you can believe what you want. I respect that.

Does anyone have the jury instructions, specifically the part of her being an 'talented artist" and "photographer' and that Travis had 'no family ties' and about his age all being insignificant?

Or was that not what the judge said and it was Nurmi?

What really brought it home for me was Steven talking about how he and his wife had separated because he "couldn't be the husband that she needed". That broke my heart.

She has absolutely ruined this family's lives in so many ways, she just has no clue...

I do have one more thing to say - how in the world would prison officials know if smuggling goes on in prison? It is not like the prisoners are going to tell them. Contraband does exist. I saw the video and it was Speck. Old, white and with yellow long hair. Sitting in a chair. Freaky to think the behavior prisoners must adapt to to survive.

I think she was wiping tears from her chin (there are tears on her shirt too). I think this because I was doing the same thing. She may be crying for herself, or she may feel actual remorse, we'll never know.

I agree, it's too late for an apology, if that's what she's planning to do.

I was wondering if Jodi had met Samantha? It was said somewhere that when she heard about Travis she immediately thought of Jodi. Perhaps Travis had a serious discussion with her about Jodi when he went to visit her in May, weeks before he was killed.

I know Napoleon is in a great home. I just wish he could get up there and ARF out how much he misses Travis.

I keep going back and forth on Jodi's family and their behavior. I do think her mother, along with others, have acted in poor taste at times during the trial. I also understand that she is Jodi's mother, and loves her no matter what.

People can act inappropriately when they are under major stress. However, so is the entire Alexander family, and their behavior and strength has been admirable.

Maybe someone should have given her a little heads-up, and told her what her behavior looked like to the outside world.

I cannot find the exact article from Perryville, where Jodi will go - this is a woman who served and got sent to max though and she says you get out ONE hour a day, you are served your meals in your cell, no contact with other prisoners or visitors. So no matter if she is sentenced to death or LWOP she is not socializing with anyone. She will be locked down 23 hours a day and will more than likely be kept seperate because of her high profile situation. Exactly what she deserves. http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region...yville-complex

There's probably something legally where it's considered "prejudicial". I'm getting to hate that term.

Well, I don't think Martinez could say anything while the witness is talking, like he wouldn't get to cross, I don't think. I was thinking that Jodi and her pals would get up there like the Alexanders did and directly address the jury, rather than get on the stand. Admittedly I could be wrong. But, anyways, if Jodi's mom were to get up there and say whatever, I believe Martinez could introduce the Flores tape with her in his closing statement or what have you. He wouldn't be able to question them, but he would be able to present his own evidence that shows contradiction to their words.

He's the only one who seems to see Jodi for what she is. And while he did attend a few times, I think he is not snowed at all by her, and I don't think that he wants to be a party to any of it, unlike her mother trying to peddle the fake pedo letters or her aunt slagging the Alexander family on twitter, in between acting like braying jackasses in the court room.

It is my impression this is true. Jodi's mother can make a statement, however I believe Juan can then play her interrogation tapes (and possibly also submit evidence of her trying to sell the forged pedo letters to the National Enquirer). I believe those could be used to show that what she might say on the stand is different from what she said when speaking to Flores just after Jodi was arrested. The evidence of trying to sell the forged pedo letters might be usable to show the jury what kind of person she is. Then the jury could decide how much weight to give her testimony on behalf of Jodi.

I understand what you are saying . I think you are right about Josiah and her Mother not having g a good or a close relationship but even so her mother must still be devastated. I'm sure that she really wants to believe that Jodi is the victim. I just cant imagine being in such a position. Its a tragedy for both families.

I am begging you, stop quoting yourself, this is not the Richard Speck thread and we do not need to know every thought that crosses your mind!! This thread is a monster to keep up with on court days so could you please keep your posts to when you have a question or worthwhile observation and not just the Chicken Little Sky if Falling type comments we get too often for you. I apologize to other MDSers for this off topic post .
