She was supposed to testify in the penalty phase if it came to that, however who knows if they'll put her on now after the jury clearly rejected her theories.

That is what they said on HLN. That would be insane.

I heard Beth Karas say that the jury decides either life or death, and then the judge decides if its LWOP or LWP......

Agreed. Utilize the ignore function. What trolls hate the most is being ignored.

Well, the HLN talking heads are thinking that Jodi will get up and address the court. Eighteen days on the stand worked so well for her, eh?

Does anyone think that's a good idea? What is she going to say? As the TH mentioned, claiming remorse and responsibility could hurt her in trying to appeal since she was claiming self-defense. But, if not, what good would it do her to stand up and keep playing the victim and running Travis down. The jury didn't buy any of her bs.

If the DT is worth anything, they'd be wise to keep her from addressing the court. She's her own worst enemy when she opens her mouth. The only hope I can see is if they throw another psychologist up on the stand and claim that Jodi does in fact have mental problems, BPD, etc. The jury isn't going to buy that either, especially when they brought in Dr. Geffner to intentionally attack Dr. DeMarte's testimony about Jodi's BPD. Although Nurmi seemed to try and play the BPD card today anyways, so that may be the only thing they can try.

Other than that, I can't see anything else they can try, except to have her parents willingly throw themselves under the bus and claim they abused the hell out of her. And even then... I can't see the jury remotely buying anything the DT and Jodi try to sell.

I think that might be why some actually support the DP. Because she will sit there rotting for 12 yrs with appeals that won't work.

She should have to be alone in a cell for the rest of her worthless natural life. She should never able to ever be happy again. I That is what Travis' sister Tanisha said in an interview, she wants the DP and said she would even attend. She didn't want Jodi to enjoy socializing w/ other inmates and guards, writing and drawing, phone calls for hours, visitors for hours....etc.

I wonder if she is more afraid of death, or afraid of those years ahead on death row???

I'm new here (well, I've been reading forever!). I am not surprised by this verdict at all. It seems like the defense team barely put up a fight at all. Makes me wonder if JA really does want the DP.

On that note, I have a question. Perhaps it has been explained already, but what happens to her if she gets LWOP? What will her life be like? Will she be stuck in a cell for 23 hours a day, etc.? I am a terrible Googler and didn't find anything in particular about Arizona. But I did read a few articles about how many prefer the DP because they get numerous opportunities for appeal, and actually have better living conditions that those sentenced to LWOP.

It was weak, like she was sad about it. Number two was very adamant though.

Because she's in lock down she only has an hour to use the phone/shower etc.

I think she looked pissed plus she can't give any interviews to the media. That, probably more than anything, is pissing her off/upsetting her more than anything.

Yep, rewound it - Is that Beth Karess?

"we have no idea who they are going to call, I have not seen a witness list, except for Alice Laviolette. Early on they said Laviolette was going to be a witness in the penalty phase if it got to that. So, possibly she'll be back on the stand."

I can't even imagine why the defense would do this. Bringing Alyce the FIRST time was a big fat fail. doing it twice? I don't have a lot of kind thoughts on Alyce, however, I can't even imagine that she would WANT to do it again. Or is this subpeona still, she HAS to? gulp. I am not sure I can listen to her sabotage Travis more.
or maybe she would be there to analyze Jodi's family of origin? Im still not sure I can take it

Also, can we get a report on Amy's Bakery Company, today? Everyone on the internet was ROFL last night about them.

I have always been on the fence about the DP for her, not because she isn't deserving, but because of the process "toll" it takes on the family. I think Juan Martinez worked closely with the family to determine what they wanted for the outcome. There is no way he would have gone forward without family support. I get the impression that JM has been very honest and up-front with the Alexander family about what has happened and what might happen throughout this trial process.

As for the death penalty, IMO, the horror of that sentence is the wait and the conditions in which the convicts are kept. Knowing that each day brings you one step closer to facing up to your crime, and you have absolutely no control over anything in your life. Death Row is a bigger punishment than death itself.

Does Arias deserve it? Well, her crime is absolutely worthy of death. But, I will admit it.... I don't think her life is worth what it costs to give her the death penalty. The appeals, the cost of incarceration, the toll of years of waiting. All this translates into millions of dollars and a roller-coaster of emotion for families.
I think that all that money and energy could be put to more positive endeavors. I know it isn't possible, but I think it would be really cool if all the resources it takes to put JA on Death Row could go to the charity of the Alexander's choice.

From what I understand her Dad will not be making the trip to Phoenix. We haven't seen her younger sister/brother in court since the sex tape was played.

What really can she offer to save herself? She had an opportunity under direct questioning from Nurmi to exhibit some remorse and to say she was sorry and the best she could come up with was "I'm ashamed".

When the jury asked her if she would have ever told the truth had she not been arrested her answer was "I don't know, can't answer that" .

    Kind of says it all.
