I would add...I'm not sure how they do business in their facility there in AZ, but I was a Correctional Officer east coast as well and can say that I would be curious to know if she has been classified as a HP (high profile) for the duration of this trial. If she was here , she sure would be. And it is not at all unusual to put an inmate such as JA on suicide watch at times such as this. In fact it is policy in our jail, in order to protect the inmate (they can get kinda loopy and all) and officers etc, as well as for liability reasons to protect the department and the county. There are a list of reasons for special classifications, including being classed as high profile in a criminal trial, which JA is, in which we would have her housed in a specific unit, in a special cell by herself, (and if on suicide, having nothing but her mattress on the floor and a "suicide" blanket...and our cells were freezing cold), on close surveillence and observation and psych tx where we also keep a detailed written log in addition to constant recorded CCTV, physical walk-throughs etc etc. I'm guessing she would not like being on suicide watch. She wouldn't need to make any verbal threats or announcements of it either; just by her being HP and the stage of her trial given a guilty verdict alone put her in a high risk category and on suicide watch. JMHO. The jail docs are not usually fools either, and communicate with the officers, so hopefully AZ has good MH care providers and they are on top of their game in all this fuckery. And I'm pretty sure they'd consider her own words of claiming she wanted the DP, further justifying her need to be on suicide watch for now. We can take her off per doctor's order (and put her back on) at any time at their discretion. Document, document, document.
We get more than our fair share of wacky and wild and high profile cases here in the DC area, plenty of which have been handled wrong, or certain someones making big mistakes or using bad judgement, resulting in very bad outcomes. So, I dunno, maybe we learn and do things a little differently. It can surely be a helluva crapshoot.

I think Jodi has more going on than BPD. I have said sociopath from the start, maybe it is sociopath and BPD, fine, but I swear sociopath is in the mix. But regardless of diagnosis, you could be correct, her tears and sadness could be real this time (if only for herself). However, she has lied and manipulated so many times that she is now known as the girl who endlessly cried wolf, so even if she finally 'haz a real sad', who would believe her?
They should get her checked out, just to dot all the I's and cross all the T's. After that hoop has been jumped through, I'm fine with her feeling miserable, and hated, and wanting to die. It is just for her to feel that way. She brought every last bit of this on herself. Let her wallow in it.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- When Daniel J. Serge appeared for his video arraignment last week from the Geauga County Jail, he was wearing an unusual-looking bulky, sleeveless garment.
Serge, accused of placing hidden cameras in the Geauga County YMCA and in his Chardon home, had been put on "special," or suicide watch, by Geauga County jail officials.
That meant the Mayfield Heights fire captain had to wear a safety smock -- standard in many lockups around the United States where prisoners are on suicide watch.
The smock, developed more than 20 years ago, eliminates potential hazards of standard shirts, pants and even underwear -- clothing that can be ripped and fashioned into a rope or noose -- that a distraught person could use to inflict self-harm. Buckles and zippers can be swallowed or used to cut the body.
"The smocks have proven to be safe," said Julie Walburn, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Corrections. "They have no strings, or belts, or loops or buckles so they [prisoners] can't hurt themselves."
The heavy-duty nylon safety smock -- about $300 each depending on the manufacturer -- is tough to tear and too bulky to fashion into a rope or loop for hanging. The 4.5-pound smock is collarless and sleeveless. A series of one-inch Velcro strips are used to close the smock and adjust openings for the head and arms. Smocks are machine washable and can be put in a dryer.
Jack Harris, of Ferguson Safety Products, said the smock was designed in 1989 by company founder and president Lonna Speer.
Speer, a registered nurse working in the Santa Cruz County Jail, saw prisoners on suicide watch stripped naked and sometimes strapped to planks to prevent them from injuring themselves.
"At that time no products existed for inmates. So, she invented a garment that would keep the prisoner covered and warm," he said, "and give them some dignity." Prisoners don't wear undergarments with the smock.
Harris, general manager of the California company, said more than 90 percent of lockups around the country use safety smocks as well as blankets and mattresses manufactured the same way.

Safety smocks are standard in Ohio's state prisons. Geauga and Summit county jails have used them for two decades, officials said.
Summit County Jail administrator Chief Gary James said with an average of 50 prisoners each day, it's not unusual for as many as four safety gowns to be in use. Summit has about a dozen smocks.
People entering jail feel the gamut of emotions from embarrassment to shame to depression.
When evaluating a prisoner during booking, officials consider the fears associated with going to jail as well as other issues such as health history, loss of a family member, family problems or loss of a job, said Cleveland City Jail administrator Joseph Stottner.
Lt. John Hiscox of the Geauga County Sheriff's Office, said all prisoners are evaluated during booking through a questionnaire to determine if they could be a threat to themselves. Mental health officials are then alerted. Prisoners determined to have suicidal issues remain under special watch until they are cleared by a doctor, he said.
This is standard in area jails and prisons.
"No matter the circumstances," Summit's James said, "we're charged with the health and welfare of these prisoners."
In Cleveland City Jail, where stays are one to three days on average, prisoners on a suicide watch usually wear a thin, blue, cloth jumpsuit with a Velcro closure, Stottner said.
The city jail does own a few safety smocks, he said, but most people prefer the disposable jumpsuits that cover their arms and legs.
I just heard that Arias may have refused to come out of her cell today to talk to her defense. If this is true, how can they defend her?
If I heard it wrong, then I'm sorry for giving out incorrect information (it wouldn't be the first time ;o). Either way, if this entire situation came about because Jodi got dramatic, and it has nothing to do with verdict reversal, juror misconduct, Dr Drew/Katie misconduct, Juan misconduct, ect ect ect...that's all I care about.
