Dr. Geffner finally admitting TA could have been dead when shot in the head was a win.
So Sad all the wasted time this judge has allowed during the trial and is now putting the jury through a day like this
I'm not saying he has any intention of overbilling. I don't think he has. It's like I said, just a matter of symantics; by saying he wasn't getting paid. He clearly is though he's not getting the check personally. A small point, and I'm not sure why it was danced around before being admitted to.
All of these experts are paid, obviously. I doubt anyone, even the jury, thinks they are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. It's just ridiculous to dance around the answer. Of course the whole point came up when we found out the large number of hours that Drs Samuels and LaViolette spent/billed for, so every expert is going to get it from there on out. Martinez challenged the defense experts, so Willmott was quick to do the same with DeMarte, and of course Martinez turned around and did it to Dr. Geffner. Now if Martinez puts up another Dr., I'm sure we'll see the same thing from Willmott again.
I believe it started as a point to simply show how long Samuels and LaViolette spent with Jodi, and really, intiially, whether all those hours ended up in them developing sympathy and being somewhat biased because of that. Secondary gain came up of course, as well. And we're not going to stop hearing about it unfortunately.
The difference is, in this case, this Dr. apparently had no meaningful interaction with Jodi at all, and he's just giving his opinion on reports given by other psychologists. Obviously in that case, Dr. Geffner would seemingly have no bias with regards to liking Jodi or feeling sorry for her, as the other psychologists might. But, it's also saying that he's like a rubber stamp, to the other 2. He didn't do any independent work and can't be quizzed on that as such. He's just there to reaffirm Samuels and LaViolette. And because he's being paid by the defense and can't be questioned, unlike Samuels, LaViolette and DeMarte, it becomes important, imo, to establish whether he is just rubber stamping what the former 2 have said, without question, to collect a paycheck.
I think it's a valid question.
