I think she's trying to avoid being tripped up. If she stuck to the truth and believed in her diagnosis, she would not have to worry about being tripped up. If the prosecutor tried to make her look a certain way, the defense could address that on redirect. She needs to just answer the questions or she looks like a fucking weasel.

I think Martinez would be better off pointing to specific lies that affected Alyce's opinion.

Why is he dealing with blanket statements and what her dad says? Is it because there isn't a specific lie that contributed to her opinion that Jodi was a victim of DV?

He's building the case that Alyce based her opinion on what Stabby told her. Period. Regardless of whatever other information that was available to her.

Uh, that's all gone. Alyce is a liar. She sleeps in the same bed as Doc did.

ALV is so bad that she makes Dr Samuels look comparatively credible. She is slaughtering herself by appearing stubborn, uncooperative and smug. The tense sarcastic smiles she gives Juan Martinez show a game-playing attitude. She is grudging, barely concealing her contempt. Juan Martinez explained secondary gain very well and was masterful in making her duck and dive. Like others here I gave her a fair chance. She is hopeless under cross examination. The contrast between her attitude when being spoon fed by the defense and now is stark.

It shows her bias and her determination to stick with the defense lies even in the presence of overwhelming evidence that refute the lies.

I expect her to stomp her foot any second and shout, "You're mean! I hate you!"

Maybe Alyce should be fitted with a stun belt of her own

Hey Willmott, why didn't you SHOW her the entire interview? Oh yeah because it would go against what she wants Alyce to say about Jodi in court.

Respectfully disagree, that demonstration exemplified that the written word only accounts for 10% of what the communication actually was. That you cannot make assessments of relationships solely on written correspondences. She gave way too much weight to the stuff she 'read'.

I knew she would discredit the Dad because of what Jodi has told her, the mother I thought also called her dishonesty out in some way? Maybe that tape will also come in.

Bet Alyce spends her lunch hour watching the police interviews of Arias's parents.

She is trying to play chess, and figure out his next move. But if the truth is on your side, there really isn't any reason to play games. She should just be answering the questions honestly, then the DT will attempt to rehabilitate any damage or potential issues on redirect. All the evasiveness and balking just makes her LOOK dishonest, whether she is or not.



As I mentioned previously, you reap what you sow.

If she had just been honest and forthcoming, people might have disagreed with her assessment and found her too credulous, but honestly so. Now she also looks like a combative, overly defensive, manipulative, game playing man hater.

I can't imagine why Willmott would want them to see the entire interview. The parts we've seen are very bad for Jodi.

No. Because a true professional would have done the report in a fair and unbiased way, and let the defense call them or not. I believe that ALV fudged the truth, ignored other truths, and has outright made false statements in order to tailor her report to make Jodi look as victimized as possible, while trashing Travis.

I wanted to like ALV. In some ways, I feel I could go up and talk to her about my own past, and I think she would listen.

But she didn't do victims of DV by dealing with Jodi in the manner that she did. She acted inappropriately.

Now, on the other hand, the personal attacks against her sexuality, appearance, and so forth bother me. I also did not like the idea of people posting fake reviews on her book, just so they could bash her.

At the same time, I understand that she has just set back the DV clock by supporting Jodi. It will be harder for men to get help, and it may make men more prone to abuse from women simply because she, an expert, hand-waved over any potential abuse Jodi did towards Travis.

Basically, now a woman can make a claim against a man, and even without any actual evidence, have him condemned for being an abuser -- even if the roles are actually reversed. It's alarming, and disturbing.

That's what I was saying. Show Alyce the tape. JW complained that ALV hadn't seen the entire tape so it would be impossible for her to assess it. Well if JW had shown her the tape prior to court, that issue would have been resolved. But JW didn't WANT to do that because it would have effected ALV's opinion about JA

Alyce is an ideologue. There is nothing she would have seen or could see now that will change her opinion.

So what do you do as a witness? If she had completed a completely fair and balanced report based on the things we know from the trial and about Travis and Jodi, do you really think she would have come out with the report she's presented? This is why I'm conflicted about her - she did what she was paid to do. Whether it was right or wrong, she completed the job to the best of her ability. Anyone else feel this way?

Turn the job down. There's nothing that says you have to take a job, and you certainly DO NOT have to make a biased report. In my job, we work with expert witnesses all the time. They assess the case and give an opinion. They don't always jibe with what we want, in which case they are paid for the time they spent on evaluating the case, they go on their way and look for another job. If they agree, and make a good witness (which means they seem credible and are likeable and are not obviously biased), they testify.

Defense was scraping the very bottom of the barrel with these witnesses. They were obviously biased and present terribly.

About bloody time. And in case the jury had not noticed before, they surely will now. If she was telling the truth, instead of toeing the "party line", there would be no need to constantly be looking to the defense table.
