That begs the question. Notwithstanding the fact that they were in arrears on the the mortgage payments, why didn't they sell the house in late 2006 or early 2007, and get out from under. If the market hadn't yet collapsed, they could have taken a profit. I don't think that solution was available. If the market hadn't yet completely collapsed, it had certainly frozen and it collapsed very quickly after that; certainly in the overbuilt Coachella Valley it did. Some people tried to hang on but it was wishful thinking. Darrell and Jodi Arias were definitely underwater on the house by the time, (early 2007) that Darrell moved back to Monterey. After that, they were struggling to hang on and we know what happened. To sum it up, they lost everything they put into the property and Jodi came away broke and in debt on her credit cards.

True...but why does it always seems to take an inordinate amount of time with the defense

Everything takes an inordinate amount of time with the defense. Its ridiculous how much time they've wasted in this trial.

Nurmi can't speak more than two words a min, JA never STFU, and the entire def has nothing but to repeat 10 times every word they speak ad naseum. Just guessing : )

Well spotted, Dizzy. I am British. There are people watching this trial all over the world, as you know. I use Defense rather than Defence as it is the USA legal system.

Defense wins if no death penalty. That's their primary goal.
The Defense strategy is obvious, sure. I made the point simply as I have observed people complaining about the prosecution taking too long. That just didn't ring true to me. The Defense are doing their job based on their client's instructions. I understand how annoying they are to some but neither Nurmi nor Willmot bother me beyond boredom. The strategy of The Defense is straightforward and holds little interest to me. They are plodding along in a textbook fashion. The prosecution - now that is a different story. I am fascinated by the strands that have been woven and can't wait to see how it is tied together.

Pretty sure the mortgage payment doubled around the time she moved out. Maybe Ms. Real Estate Mogul didn't read the fine print. She testified they bought house in order to flip, but I don't remember OG saying that.

Thus, the knife ends up in the bathroom, conveniently.

This is nothing but my assumption as to how things went. Jodi brought the knife herself (some have said Darryl had a knife collection that was kept in Jodi's storage shed), thinking she could stab him in the shower and that would be that. A knife to the heart, while Travis is seated and contained in a small box of a shower, seems like it should kill him quickly and easily. Of course it didn't, and that's what the gun was for, a failsafe. If she couldn't kill him with a knife to the heart, then she shoots him quick and easy.

But, it didn't work out that way, and Travis fought back and exited the shower. Now, the crime scene is bigger than Jodi had planned, and Travis is still moving; he might get away, outside to neighbors or to his cell phone to call police.

We don't know where the gun is at this point, but we can guess perhaps it's in her backpack. Maybe he was getting away too fast for her to go rummaging through to find the gun. And, if she has little or no experience with guns, perhaps she doesn't know how loud a shot will be. Will it alert the neighbors? Will someone call the police on her? Was it better to keep stabbing him than to risk someone hearing a shot and reporting it? Could be. So, she keeps stabbing him; she gets him down and even goes so far as to stab him in the head TWICE!, trying to end him. It's not working, he's still alive. So, she slits his throat, believing that she's delivered the fatal blow, and drags him back to the shower.

At that point, either he's making gurgling sounds and she just can't believe he still isn't dead, and grabs the gun. Or, she figures, better safe than sorry and hurry up and shoot him. One of his roommate's was due to be home not long after. If the roommate had gotten there and Travis was not completely dead, he could've discovered the scene and called the cops, and Jodi would possibly have been caught sooner.

All just speculation of course, but I truly believe that she didn't plan on using the gun unless she had to. She didn't want anyone to hear the shot/shots that it would take to kill him; and she simply underestimated his will to live. She thought she'd stab him through the heart (how symbolic) and he would die right there in the shower.
What about the possibility of Jodi saying, "Can I do a photo shoot? I've had this idea about "re-enacting" the Psycho shower stabbing scene on camera .... you know, the way Hitchcock did it from the point of view of Anthony Perkins' character."

I have been thinking of other ways that the murder could have gone down.

The camera was the "key" to opening the shower door -- otherwise he would have been startled. It was a right-handed camera, but Jodi is left-handed,

So I could see her coaxing Travis into playing out the Psycho scene, even exposing his chest for her to hold the knife against to capture in a picture ... but instead she stabs as hard as she can.

Jodi used a cup found in the shower to splash water around to clean up the blood. JM mentioned the bottom of storage boxes being soaked through with water. So the blood trail was incomplete. There had been more blood from the shower to the hall than was found.

Why would the judge be in chambers without Juan present? That seems very odd.
