This is the first and last time I watch this stupid HLN After Hours show.

Some idiot just said Stabby's brother has corroborated all of the abuse alleged by Stabby against her Parents.He has not testified. Alyce testified that her brother Carl feels he has a lack of patience with his children because of his Father.

this kinda brings us back to the "love of a parent thing"..... I respect this...
My father was a prosecutor so I don't have as good of a grasp on "dense" (defense, lol, thanks Sneeks!) theory.

my questions are:

Isn't it likely that the defense has impressed upon Arias' family that the appearence of their support could mean the difference between LWOP and death for Stabi?

Is it possible the defense is somehow providing some (maybe financial) support? Could they write it off somehow?

As a tax payer in Maricopa county, they better not be!

I think the OJ trial was probably the turning point, where the court room made the transition from standing for justice to representing mass media entertainment. It epitomized the term "3-ring circus." Now whenever a case where there's a whit of sensationalism involved, the media is all over it hoping to cash in on the tragedy and exploit it into oblivion.

Since then, the prevalence of the internet, and other immediate-gratification technology, have just intensified the situation.

It really is completely barbaric. I say this with no offense intended to any member because, to my knowledge, those of us who are members, old and new alike, are here because we have a genuine interest in crime, criminals and the judicial process. I don't believe "gore-whores" last long on this site because they soon find we're not the "crowd" that they were hoping to find.

I wonder how they are going to handle the Colorado shooter? I bet that will be even higher publicized and sensationalized.

In my case, I witnessed an attempted murder. The victim was shot five times (six shots fired, but one missed and almost hit me... I actually felt a little puff of air as the bullet went by my head). Despite five serious wounds, the victim was rushed to the hospital, had extensive surgery, and survived. The shooter was tried for attempted murder, and forced me to testify to a totally different version of the facts. They were acquitted. I was six years old at the time of the shooting.

The incident was never, ever discussed after that. On the rare occasions when I did think about it, I "remembered" the version I had been forced to testify to. When I was in college, I started having a recurring nightmare/vision that I could not comprehend. I eventually found it so disturbing that I saw a psychiatrist, and it turned out to be the memory of the real details of the shooting that I had been suppressing all those years. Years later, the shooter confirmed that my recovered memory was indeed what had really happened.

I don't know for sure about it. They did have cameras in the courtroom for the arraignment. I would imagine that it would be the next high profile case unless Treyvon Martin happens first! I can see a slew of televised cases in our future. As much as I like watching them, it is sad that as we watch them, someone's father, mother, son, daughter or whatever died and they have to relive it, just like the Alexander family.

I'm not sure but I *think* it might be at the discretion of the DA's office. I seem to recall pandemonium when Garcetti or whoever was DA at the time of the OJ trial made a complete change of venue to the LA courthouse specifically to accommodate the TV cameras and crew. Bet he kicks himself in the ass daily for that little misstep, hehe.

Maybe the rulings have changes or something, but that's all I recall about who renders on decision on whether the circus comes to town.

You are correct Morticia, upon further research, in state courts it is up to the presiding judge. Federal courts do not allow for any photography period.

I was looking at the picture of Travis sitting in the shower (again - wishing he could tell us what happened that day)...and noticed the left side of his upper lip looks larger than the other side. That could be a swollen lip or it could just be the way his natural lips are shaped. After looking at other pics of him, I'm leaning toward it being his natural lip.

Anyway, when looking for other pics of him, I stumbled across this one where it shows mirror images of each side of his face. I apologize if you have already seen this before...but it was new to me and thought it was interesting.

I think that's just how his lips are shaped. I noticed the same thing with his brother...it's like a permanent sneer. I love it.

I was actually impressed that her parents were both seemingly honest in their interviews. It raised my opinion of them both.

Also, I don't think telling police the truth equals not loving or supporting your child. Someone elses child was brutally slaughtered. The police deserve to know the truth of what any family or friends of Stabby know. It is the right and moral thing to do.

The family should support their child emotionally and show their support in court, and the Arias family seems to be doing that.

This is where I scratch my head a little: The mom is wearing the purple ribbon for domestic violence awareness. I take that to mean she believes Jodi was justified in murdering Travis because she was a victim.

I also think she and her sister and the red head chick behave very inappropriately in court. Just my opinion.

My heart does go out to them...they have an effed up kid who treated them horribly and eventually committed a cold blooded murder. That is a pretty harsh reality for them.

Good question. There hasn't been a single relative, coworker or friend called by the defense, except Darryl, has there? Alyce is their last witness, their last hope of selling self-defense to the jury. And her testimony so far has been based on what Jodi has told her and Jodi's journals...well the jury has known from day 1 that Jodi is a pathological liar, so everything she told Alyce is worthless. As for the journal entries Wilmott is using to show that Jodi had no jealousy toward Travis at all, only love, all Martinez has to do on cross is put up the entry for June 9, 2008 where she wrote "OMG I just found out Travis is dead! WHO could have done such a thing?" (paraphrasing.) So the journal is more lying, therefore out the window too, leaving basically nothing.

I don't think the DT ever thought they had a chance at selling self-defense but they gave it their best shot. Nurmi has looked totally defeated and checked-out for weeks. Wilmott seems to be into it though...

Yeah, I don't believe any of her diary entries. Most of them read to me like she's writing them- expecting somebody to read them. If you compare diary post to text messages on the same day-most do not add up.

For example: Alyce said this yesterday about a diary post: Jan 22, 2008- Jodi comes back. She can't loan him anymore money. He throws her to the floor. Then he kicks her, then kicks her a second time and breaks her finger. Travis leaves the room. Jodi wondered if Travis was getting a weapon, But Travis comes back and splints Jodi's finger.

But yet the text message on Jan 22, 2008-

Jodi: Did u make the deposit?
Travis: yes
Jodi: Thank you! I'll make it up to u soon.
Jodi: I'm gonna need a ride! I'm off at 4pm. Txt me.

See what I mean? Her text message proves her diary is lying. Personally, I think all the diary evidence is crap, and I think it should never have been allowed. Plus, it's stupid. Jodi writes in her diary, like she talked on the stand. Endless babble.


I'm glad to see that I didn't miss anything with Alyce yesterday. I'm cutting her some slack about being sick, b/c she very well may be sick. Maybe she's on dialysis or has diabetes??

I do wish the court would move this along. Maybe assign the judge's cases somewhere else, and lets get 5 days of the full 8 hours of court. 3 hours of court for 3 days is crazy. If they can't do 5 days, maybe a full 8 hours for 3 days!

Nov 1, 2007-EX 580- Diary- Jodi and Travis made up. Travis came over Jodi's house for a couple of nights. Travis gives her a treat and Jodi gives Travis a treat.

Nov 5, 2007- EX 581- Diary- (JM asks for an approach)
Travis used harsh words with Jodi. She forgave him and promised not to write them down. (what man really cares what a woman writes in her stupid diary?)

Dec 4, 2007- EX 583-diary- Hiding their relationship. Jodi would sneak in to the grandmother's house when Travis was there and leave before anybody got up. Alice says this diary entry goes with another story about another woman he did the same thing to.

Dec 25, 2007- Alice says Jodi is celebrating with her family in Yreka. Travis buys Jodi a bunch of expensive presents even though his money is tight. Alice says Jodi is starting to pull away from Travis. (this is the same month of the John Doe letter to Lisa and Travis' slashed tires) (Alice is telling a very LONG story about somebody else) (OMG, I guess they are saying Travis was abusing her with his penis)

EX 440- Text messages- Jan 2008- Travis text Jodi that he loves her. They are loving texts. They talk about swap cars.
Jan 21, 2008- Text- Alice says this is when there was a second physical abusive act. JM objects

Text on Feb 25, 2008- Travis is upset b/c Jodi is not responing. Jodi's phone had issues. (This is also the same day Jodi wanted a good ass pounding and spanking from Travis)

Feb 26- EX 585- Diary- Jodi says they have a good tender sexual experience. (this is also the day that she text about the horny school girl) Jodi writes in her diary that Travis wants to date MiMi.
Same EX- Jodi is excited about meeting Sam Schulz and the vegas trip. Alice says she has seen no evidence of Jodi being jealous.
Feb 29, 2008- Travis says that he has tons of great experiences with Jodi.
March 2, 2008- A 3rd violent event in the car. (this is the day Jodi also talks about Travis taking MiMi rock climbing)

3rd event- She talked about moving to Yreka and Travis slapped her across the face. Takes place in Travis' car. This is also when they are driving to the tax seminar. (actually this whole event takes place on the 1st of march, not the 2nd)

I thought it was interesting that during Mama Arias' interview with Flores, she said Jodi told her she wasn't even in Arizona. there aren't any gas receipts.
