They have closing statements to address the disparities within her testimony and tie the evidence+testimony into a neat little package for the jury, which given JM's track record and the facts of the case, I don't think he'll have a hard time doing.

I didn't intend to sound like I was talking down to you.

    Late afternoon

Jodi is still on the stand. Nurmi is still up.

    5:52 EST- I'm back.

Diary-Travis was a big part of Jodi's life. The law of attraction is the reason she wouldn't put anything negative in her diary. Oh shit, now Jodi is talking about science issues. Don't focus, read, or write about any negative things. Why wouldn't you write about him jacking off? Well, there are a lot of reasons. The biggest was she couldn't picture writing it down. She thought it would come back to haunt her. Mormon's are big on record keeping (reason # 28976 that Jodi is not a good Mormon) In the past, Travis made her tear out negative things she wrote about him.

Entries in the diary- EX 455- She loves Travis

EX 510- writings-objection from the state

    Approach (Judge)

JM gets up to question Jodi-Jodi didn't write any of those notes on the diary entries. I guess the defense attorney wrote on them. (I'm glad JM woke things up)

Now Jodi has to read all of EX 510. Aug 26, 2007 Issues Jodi is dealing with. Travis and her emotions she feels when she's with him. The highlighted portions of the entries- how Jodi feels positive and negative with Travis. Jodi writes about suicide. Jodi writes about Rachel and not wanting Travis to know. Jodi is tired of Travis talking about her friends.
    EX 510 and EX 242
EX 242 is her journal. A page is torn out. Jodi tore them out.

EX 510-admitted- More BS diary stuff.

Court is over for the day.

    Some observations from her testimony...

"It's a good thing no one else will read this..." (So I guess her journal WAS private.)

"I'm of little use to the world, through no fault of mine..." (Because nothing is EVER Jodi's fault.)

She doesn't get her hands on the Journals. They are exhibits and are securely stored when not in the courtroom.

I don't think I have ever been so glad the day has ended. This day was painful to watch.

Overall, I have to say I'm actually really pleased with today's testimony. After JM's cross, the defense comes back with another day of sex talk. Proved to me that the defense is trying a sex abuse case while the prosecution is trying the actual first degree murder case. This is a case of self defense vs pre-meditated murder. If the defense wants to spend all their time talking about tootsie pops and wake-up oral sex, it's telling me they have nothing to dispute the prosecution's assertions of pre-meditated murder. If they had a real self defense case, they wouldn't be spending all their time on a journal with no incriminating evidence in it and a phone sex recording that wasn't even sexy.

The majority of trials I have watched over the years, murder trials involving the possibility of the DP or life w/o patrol, conducted over many states, have allowed not only re-direct AND re-cross, but re-re-direct and re-re-cross and beyond, albeit tight and limited (a concept foreign to the his judge), from OJ to Peterson to Greineder to "the Rabbi" to the transvestite plastic surgeon from MA. The truly egregious thing in this case is the judge not only allowing ridiculous amounts of unsubstaniated hearsay (Jodi says it so it must be true!), but new evidence as presented today on RE-DIRECT (edited audiotapes with *captions* no less), WITH the possibility of no re-cross for JM.

So I guess if Jodi gets the death penalty it will all be because of what she wrote in her diary. "I wish I could die." "I wish I could stop existing."

I would think that Martinez would get to do that with his rebuttal witnesses. Like, bring up the police officer who arrested her and what was found in her car when she was trying to flee.

The only thing it demonstrates for me is her extreme obsession and desperation to keep Travis so that she could recover a life from the miserable mess she has made of the one she had.

I agree, I am astounded at the amount of "heresay" allowed in this trial. The more I here her go on and on and talk about suicide or mixed feelings with Travis the more it convinces me that she was obsessed but I am not sure that everyone on that jury will feel that way.

I agree. Maybe Martinez will get to re-cross, then he can present an edited tape that only shows Jodi's words and dirty talk. I can only hope!

And even if he was, that is not an excuse to murder him.

At the risk of tmi -- lol -- I've never had anal. You know why? Because it does not interest me. I've had a bf or two in the past ask about it. I've declined because it wouldn't be something I'd enjoy. And you know what? That was pretty much the end of that. We continued to have healthy, enjoyable sex lives.

I would hazard to guess that very few men -- if any -- have ended a relationship because the woman wouldn't have anal with them. The key word being relationship. Jodi didn't have a relationship with Travis, they were friends with benefits. The talked, they flirted, they took occasional trips together, and Jodi would drive hundreds of miles to have sex with him. Sex that she claims she didn't particularly enjoy at times? Not only is she contradicting herself and her phone sex tape, but she was the one driving to have sex with him. If you don't like it, you don't drive hundreds of miles.

Travis wasn't driving to California to have sex with Jodi, she was driving to Arizona. Travis was not forcing her to do anything, even to be his booty call. She chose to do this, because she thought she could manipulate him with sex. She thought she could create a real relationship, maybe even marriage by using sex.

I'm so sick of this bs. I have barely been watching -- in between doing productive things. It's obvious the defense is screwed. All they keep doing is going back over this stuff, that has already been torn to shreds by Martinez. I hope the jury is as tired of this bs as I am.
You are so right. This "relationship" as Jodi calls it was all in her mind. She made the choices she made to be his play toy. She is the one who drove hours to see him only have sex with him. She moved to Arizona after they broke up, so she could be closer to him and keep an eye on whom he was dating and keep her claws into him. This was all her choice.
I have to tell a story here. I have a friend who has always been insecure. She wasn't treated well growing up and had a lot of issues because of it. Her mother had sex in the same room as her from the time she was 7 until she was 10. She didn't know what was wrong and actually thought someone was hurting her mother. (Obviously, the mother didn't understand to shut the hell up during sex when your child is in the room, or better yet, take her to a babysitter so you don't screw her up.) Anyway, this friend seemed to think that sex = love. She didn't have sex until she was 18, but she would give it up because she wanted the guy to love her so much.
Fast forward and she meets this man and she wants him so badly that she will do anything to make him love her enough to want to be with her and her alone. She becomes really sexy, she does sexual things she's not comfortable with because she really wants him to love her and marry her. She makes all the moves, she calls, she visits, she buys him surprises, she gets treated like shit from this guy, and still she kept going back for more. Why?? Because she didn't think she deserved to be treated better and she really thought doing all these things would make him see that she was the one for him. One day she finally woke up and realized this guy was using her. He didn't love her, even though he claimed he did. He wasn't going to marry her. He was using her. She was no different from Jodi. Except she didn't kill him. She left. She got smart and realized her worth.
I think that this is part of what Jodi's problem was. She wanted to be loved so badly that she gave up all of herself in her relationships - (ie., she liked what they liked, she did what they wanted, etc.) What she really needed was therapy.. not sex. I can see how her relationships in the past and even the one with Travis hurt her deeply. But she is messed up in the head. She WILL NEVER have any kind of normal relationship because she is broken. Instead of walking away from Travis like she should have and moved on to someone else, she took his life. She didn't have that right and that's why I don't have a problem with saying she's guilty. She made the choice to stop in Arizona on the way to Utah. She chose to get naked and have sex with Travis. She chose to take pictures of each other naked. She degraded herself because she wanted him so badly. She gambled and she lost. When she didn't get what she wanted she killed him. And she was so pissed off that the rage she displays screams overkill. To sit in that court room today and claim she still loves Travis is bullshit. Jodi only loves herself.
Watching her family in court just shows how screwed up her family is. Travis had a hard life too, but he chose to take a path that bettered himself and helped other people as much as he was able. Jodi chose to use people, and take and take and take. If they didn't give her what she wanted I think she probably flipped out on the other men who had been in her life.
I wish Travis had seen how nuts she really was. This wasn't a relationship after the 5 months. Then it was just a booty call. A very expensive booty call. I hope she rots in hell.

    RIP Travis

I totally believe the B set him up and told him she really liked it when he compared her to a twelve year old girl or told him to talk about doing her in the ass. Then after she got him doing it on a regular basis she taped him. She's that Machiavellian.

We (I) needed those moments of cynical levity today. I guess I got too caught up in watching for any attempt for Nurmi to put anything over on us. I dunno. It won't let me give you any more rep. for a while.

The way Travis is talking in the sex tape sounds like a boy just losing his virginity. Seriously. He sounds like talking dirty is something new to him. Also, is this a new tape? A lot of the things he said are new to me. Doesn't sound like the things he was saying a few weeks ago.

What is so disturbing is that the victim, Travis Alexander, is not here to defend himself against all JA's lies. She is so low to do this to his memory. All she can do is trash him. Wasn't she satisfied murdering him?

I hope that the jurors remember her memory lapses from the cross examination and how much improved it is during this (insane) redirect. She can easily remember 2007 today but last week didn't remember if she ate a banana before or after sex with Travis.

The re-editing of the sex tape was so wrong. I can't believe the judge allowed it to be played.

I'm about to give up listening to this so called trial. It's certainly, in my opinion, a fair trial.

Check out her "broken" finger in the photo above...not at all bent out of shape.
