Shame as used is personal, it's about oneself. guilt is other centered, it is about the harm caused to another person by violating social, cultural or legal rules. Could include religious laws as well, I see no guilt. Remorse stems from guilt. shame is a painful feeling about oneself.

I just got it now, Crazy Lady...after looking at the shots, the side by sides all day! I always thought it to be her foot, too!
The confusing thing is the wall and the floor look the same, to be made of the same material (carpet), and the white strip looked like a door threshold, with Travis' body looking like her foot. But that's just because the photo is so grainy that you really can't tell tile from wall plaster from carpet.
What finally made it clear to me was covering up the upper, left hand corner of the pic (Travis' body). Then just concerntrate on the right side. Your eyes can play tricks on you, but focus on the white strip and picture that as a 3" high baseboard running down the length of the floor, up the wall. That the demarcation between the floor and wall. You should be able to visulaize the wall, going up, and the floor beneath the white strip/baseboard. Still hard for me to make out the shape of his body, but it's way more understandable. She was pulling him down the hallway at the edge of the wall, using her hand (bloody palm print) to push off against the wall as she dragged him.
Absolutely! I love the interview that she is primping herself for while in her prison stripes....where she is powdering her nose, smiling, and flipping her lustrous locks about! If it weren't for the stripes and bars, I'd guess she was getting ready to go onstage for American Idol. If psychiatry is detective work, they have a bad record! Even after Bundy was known as a serial killer, he beat them at their own game. She didn't bother telling a real detective anything but lies, any communication would be just more of the same with her. Personally, I wouldn't bother giving her a minute to manipulate or bask in attention of a second of my time.
I thought shame stemmed from guilt as well. Where do you see her shame stemming from?
I know that shame and guilt have two different definitions....but I don't believe Jodi displays either one. What she does display is an understanding of right and wrong. That has nothing to do with guilt or shame. It's simply the ability to discern what is socially acceptable from what is not....and Jodi knows that murder is not acceptable in a civilized world. Jodi is able to reason. She knew that what she had done was wrong, and she decided she needed to cover that up. She just did a piss poor job of it.
I think her body language shows embarassment rather than shame. She was embarassed to have pictures of her 'stuff, down there' displayed on the big screen in court and she was embarassed to be caught and shown to be a liar and an incompetent criminal. The only shame she felt, maybe in her whole llife, was at being Travis's "dirty little secret", the one that he did not want to publicly acknowlege.
And this part of the article you were quoting, defining psychopathy vis a vis sociopathy, explains to me how Jodi (in my mind a psychopath), was able to function so calmly in the midst of such butchery, having no autonomic (non-voluntary) bodily response to such a horrific scene, to all of the blood, the site of his slashed throat, and why I'm sure she is lying about feeling such revulsion at the sight of Travis (supposedly) masturbating to the pic of the boy that she puked.Totally agree. The workings of the human brain, and all it entails, are still largely based on theory. I think science and research are making marvelous discoveries and bringing a greater understanding to mental illness with each passing moment.
