Thanks! I'll be sure to share pics if I'm able to pull it off.

I'm getting ready to head out to a poker card party right now. With my church friends, so there will be no booze. Bummer. But, it will still be fun. (We don't use real money either, just poker chips.)

(Euchre night with my old high school friends is always a crazy time...it's BYOB. That was last weekend though!)

Sometimes I think I lead a very crazy life. Lol! Oh well, I always have fun!

Hope all of you have a great night too!

I have never heard of it. Is there a dance that goes along with it (i would think so since you mentioned it haha). The cotton eye joe is pretty easy. I've seen some kids to it and its so cute, but it's an old song. If 'turkey in the straw" is newer, it may be better known and fun for the kids to dance to. Off to google and youtube haha

Turkey in the straw is old. I'm pretty sure it's the first square dance song I learned.

I LOVE working with the kids so I volunteered to do something from the pioneer times with them. I am going to attempt to teach 8 little kids how to square dance. Um, I don't know how to square dance! But, I think it will be fun seeing the kids dress up in cowboy boots and hats and western dresses, and watching them square dance. (I had a dream last night about teaching them...it was a blast in my dream. I have a feeling it might be a little different in reality!)

I will say that when I was in middle school we had a unit on square dancing. We griped and complained about how stupid it was, but it was honestly a lot of fun. And about 10 years ago we had a Christmas Party with a western theme for the high school kids at our church and had someone come in with a fiddle and teach us all some square dancing. It was one of the most fun Christmas parties we ever had.

Anyhow, I'm a little nervous. I have a song picked out and our first practice is Sunday. I will be watching lots of youtube videos on square dancing so that I can figure out what the "calls" mean. Wish me luck. Yee-haw!!!!
That sounds like a blast. I always helped out at the functions the kids were in. I always had a really good time.

My elementary school PE teacher, Rudy Franklin, was a professional square dance caller. He even appeared on a game show in the '60, maybe What's My Line, but I don't remember the name. The celebs had to guess what the contestant did for a living. Something like that, it's vague, it was a long time ago. Amyway, we had square dances every year, it always started off as a drag, but ended up a lot of fun. I remember a lot of the calls.

    Enjoy every moment!

When my girls were babies, I use to sing this song to them.
Weird, because I rode with my daughter the other day, and she had this song on her IPOD.

Thanks guys. The call was gma became unresponsive. I was worried we wouldn't make the two hour drive before she passed. We got here and she is awake. She is moving her hands around a lot and looks concerned. She's got that worried wrinkle in her forehead. My aunt said they gave her some morphine earlier (no wonder she was 'unresponsive.' hillbillies )

I'm just hanging out in her room for now. She is starting to belly breathe. The docs can't believe she has hung on this long.

    Anyway, thanks for the love!

So glad you made it to see her. You know she can hear you talk to her, so make sure you do and let her know what she means to you. I'm sorry she's going through this, but it is awesome that you are able to be by her side. Hugs to you, my friend, keep us updated.

Still sitting here. She is finally resting. I talk to her frequently and tell her who I am, just in case she forgets or can't see.

She's so cute. I hate she is suffering so long. She has a horrible bed sore on her booty, a pee bag, a trach, and her right arm is ten times bigger than it should be. They finally took the poop tube out, but I can't imagine how uncomfortable she must be. She was trying to tell me something, but I couldn't understand her. I just told her I love her and she told me she loved me too and thanked me for coming. How cute is that? Then she puckered her lips up and wanted kisses. I laid my cheek to hers and whispered in her ear a few things and she fell back asleep. I can see the tears well up in her eyes and it breaks my heart. I asked her if she is afraid to go and she shook her head no. I wonder if she is still bargaining.

The nursing staff is absolutely wonderful. They are very accommodating and respectful. They bring a snack and beverage cart every day and keep it stocked. Many of the nurses who have spent the past month with mawmaw have stopped by to see her. They thought the last time they would see her was last week on their shift. All the nursing staff adore her. She smiles when they come in. It's so sweet.

Anyway, that's the update. Thanks for listening.

Yeah. She's been ill for about 10 years. She's had a couple of heart surgeries, crashed a couple times and revived. She had a stroke in January and has been in the hospital since. She was going to be extubated a few weeks ago but said she wanted to fight, so the trached her. My dickhead uncle wants her to die so he had her extubated last Wednesday. We all thought she would die, but she has hung on. There have been a couple times we thought 'this is it' and she gets better. It's the oddest thing I've ever seen. They changed her trach tube this morning and she seems more comfortable. The doc said this morning they are probably going to discharge her and bring in hospice, but the car ride home may be too much for her. The doc said he was going to discharge her this past Friday, but didn't, so I don't know if she will really be discharged tomorrow or not. She is 84 years old. Has lived to see grandchildren, great-grandchilrend, and even has some great-greats. I'm the only granddaughter, but she has three greats, a one great great, with a namesake from each generation. So, with her, it makes for generations who share the same middle name. I just think that's super cute.

    Anyway, thank you.

    tl;dr

    Morbid,
I'm glad you get to be with her. When my very favorite person ever (my grandfather) was passing away, they wouldn't let us kids in the room with him. I was 11 and now I am almost 27 and I still wish I could have told him goodbye. I still bawl like a baby everytime I go visit his grave. I hope that you get to spend some good time with her before she goes. I'm glad she isn't scared.

I didn't spend a lot of time with her growing up. We only saw each other a couple times a year. She has always been very kind to me. She's so cute. She's just a little bitty. Dad said he thinks she's about 4'9" how cute is that? Such a tough woman for such a little thing. I'm happy I've spent so much time with her. I was 8 when my mom's mother died. Us kids got to see her for a moment the night she died. She was on the ventilator and that is my last memory of her. I remember talking to her and seeing tears going down her face. She wanted to see us or we probably wouldn't have went in.

Ah I'm sorry for both of you Being ill for 10 years must be awful..But she still sounds like a very strong, awesome woman. I love the middle name thing. I think more families should do that.

I'm such a lucky girl. I've never lost someone in my family. I only have 1 grandmother, the rest of my grandparents died before I was born. But the one I have is very healthy and is turning 90 this year I can't imagine what if must feel like. It's nice that you can say goodbye though. I hope I can do the same when it's her time to go.
