Okay, first post...please be kind...

I was following this case for a while, but three (now almost four) weeks ago my mom passed away suddenly/unexpectedly so I've been coming on to read up but now there's just too many pages popping up and I'm getting lost.

Have they touched on June 4 yet?
Can someone give me a super quick rundown for this week? I know thats a lot to ask so if not that's fine.

Hi Melanie! Welcome, and my most heartfelt sympathies on the passing of your mom. I've lost mine too, and no matter our age, losing a mom is very hard (((hugs)))...I'm a newbie too, joined a week or two ago. Was so far behind on many of the details of the case, but the peeps here are so helpful and knowledgeable (and funny!), and before long you'll be up to speed; many great recaps here that I'm sure others will direct you to. Full trial days are available on YouTube as well, which are fun watching (except for Nurmi's direct of JA--->snooze), and helpful to fill in the details.

I have been reading one of the transcripts for Dr.Drew and Beth Karas said that Jodi had a "stare out" with Travis family her first day on the stand. Does anyone else remember this and if so can you tell me at what part of the testimony?

I saw on the state vs jodi arias fb page that HLN said that Matt Macartney had indeed forged the pedophile letters...has that been talked about in here? I've missed a couple pages, so I apologize if it has been. This is what the fb post said:

I bet the rebuttal witness JM calls is Bianca or Steve. You could tell from Thursday's hearing, JM had talked to either Bianca or Steve about Jodi coming over there. I can't see Matt being very forthcoming with that information, so I bet JM talked to Bianca/Steve about what really went on..... Steve (the "maybe" gay guy) probably has some good dirt on Jodi. If I had to guess-it's going to be Steve. Since he was helping Bianca hide from Jodi that night-I bet he knows Jodi is crazy.

There are going to be fireworks if Matt takes the stand. JM is going to tear into him. I suspect he will be the last witness Nurmi calls.

I don't see any remorse from her either. I previously looked up psycho and sociopath and couldn't decide which one fit for Jodi, some histrionic in there too. I'm learning more about these personality disorders by following these high profile trials, especially this one. I've been watching 48 Hours for a long time, but I don't recall ever being as creeped out as I was after I watched Jodi in her 2008 interview. Her story was so obviously made up, but she told it so softly and sweetly with darkness in her eyes. All I could think of was evil. I also got the impression from the interview that she took advantage of his weaknesses and introduced him to sex all in an effort to get him.

According to the DSM IV, both psychopathy and sociopathy fall under antisocial personality disorder, so you don't have to decide.

I also started following this case after the 48 Hours episode Picture Perfect. I went into it thinking that she could not possibly be guilty, but then as they laid the evidence down, I slowly came to the realization that she was totally guilty. It is creepy!!!

Donavan Bering [Arias' friend and ex cellmate, see our photos section] messaged the author of Picture Perfect, Shanna Hogan, with the following:

"Why are you writing a book about my best friend you don't even know? I am asking hundreds to boycott your book as it is all lies... You have never made an attempt to know who Jodi is. You think you will make lots of money on this but when her book comes out and contains all facts and truths yours will be proven as just a way you think you can make money..."

Just because of this, I am going to buy TWO books!

Wouldn't it have been great if her secret message had been, "I killed Travis in cold blood. It was totally premeditated. Shhhh, this is a secret. Don't tell anyone."

I have to say something. ImBatman talks about borderline personality disorder. BPD is way less than Bipolar and I applaud the new show Homeland to show that these problems are chemical and there is treatment. To say someone is bipolar or BPD is like saying the fact the kid that did the Newtown shootings means if someone is mildly autistic, hide your guns.

Even if someone has antisocial personality disorder (psychopathy), it does not mean they are going to kill someone. Most, actually, do not.

So true, it is such a flawed system. However, I am glad that she will face all of those years knowing that people didn't buy into her crap and that she is set to lose her life. She obviously wants SOOOO bad not to get the death penalty (look how many times they've tried to have that removed as a possibility). I'd love to have her just rot in jail for those years thinking constantly about how her life is sentenced and coming to an end. It is what she fears the most, so it is exactly what she deserves!!!

This. What is it exactly that she fears so much knowing that it will be decades before this comes to pass and she has proven herself to be quite adept at manipulating and delaying so far? I mean it surely is not the norm to take four years to even come to trial!

On another note, after watching the documentary that was posted, why do you think that crazy Jodi did not use the pregnancy angle to trap Travis? That was her ultimate goal it seems. She wanted to be his wife, to possess him etc etc so why not use a child to entrap him? It would have embarrassed him into possibly marrying her because of consequences within the church.

But after finding out that the investigators had found nothing on his computer, changed her story to the "pics on the bed" version. Matt apparently didn't get the notice, and when interviewed, recounted the porn on the computer version.

Also, her hair color. I think Matt said when interviewed that she had blond hair when she stopped at his place on the way to kill Travis. She claims/claimed her hair was brown at the time, but it wasn't, that is not until she stopped in Salinas after visiting Matt, to get it dyed brown/auburn to avoid being noticed (like she turned down the "flashy" red car rental), though she claims she just stopped to have her nails done.

I'm going to re-watch the trial and I'll pay closer attention. But when I watched it the first time, it seemed like the defense was caught off guard. Palin was really twitching her mouth as she and Nurmi were looking through the first mag. Is it possible that this got passed them?

I think they WERE caught off guard and upset by it. However, ALL evidence has to be submitted to each team - defense and prosecution. It is possible that they never noticed the writing. I don't believe the prosecution has to explain the evidence and they may not have looked closely enough to see all of that. May have just dismissed them as unimportant. But all evidence must be disclosed in the discovery phase of any case or else it is cause for a mistrial. If Juan had pulled that out of nowhere and never disclosed it, he would not be permitted to use it and if whatever of it he did say swayed the jury in any way than it could be a legitimate cause for mistrial. So, they knew about them, but they may not have known why they were important - which is their own fault and points to sloppy work if that is the case! But it sure was fun to watch!!!

Oh I wasn't saying I believed her... I was just repeating her claims. She knows what happened. As her journal said.... She loves him so completely she doesn't know any other way to be.

I still kind of wonder if Travis played her a bit with raising the sexual stakes trying to scare her off. Fight fire with fire so to speak. Nothing else worked. He straight up told her to go away and she didn't. She had zero respect for privacy, boundaries, or him as just a friend. I have had some friends for years and I would never just walk into their house even if they were expecting me, and vice versa.
