I would say most of us wouldn't think twice about it. We're all humans and all prone to emotion and reaction. You got angry and you reacted. You pushed him - you didn't try to physically injure him. Generally there is very little judgement or unkindness on this thread. Most people are very kind, understanding and friendly on here. Usually Wasthinking is too, might just be a hot topic. Not sure. I second Justice's hug!![]()
The reason she does not "remember" the details is simple. She thinks if she doesn't testify about any details, that the prosecution can't prove her story to be wrong.
I want to say that I remember reading that she had threatened to him to kill herself before.
But, I don't think for a minute she would actually commit suicide. It was emotional manipulation. One more trick in her bag to try and hold onto Travis.
I also don't believe the claim that she had blood on her hands while driving. There were blood stains in the car, but not on the steering wheel, right?
I know she wants to sell that she was in this "fog" and of course she was in a fog, she wouldn't have the forethought to wash off in the shower. I think she absolutely did wash off in the shower.
I wonder if her suitcase had blood on it. Do we know? If it was still in the house, she obviously changed clothes after washing off. I believe she then balled her bloody clothes up and threw them on the floor of the car, leaving the red stains and requiring the disposal of the floor mats.
It's not just self defense though, they've got the battered women's stuff in there. I'm trying to read the Arizona laws on it but most is way over my non legal head. I can see it changes it though by claiming this in the defense of 'reasonable'.
If there have been past acts of domestic violence as defined in A.R.S. ? 13-3601, subsection A, against the defendant by the victim, the state of mind of a reasonable person shall be determined from the perspective of a reasonable person who has been a victim of those past acts of domestic violence. A.R.S. ? 13-415.
Exactly.
Although it's pretty clear that even if she claims she doesn't remember, there is still a plethora of proof; the bloody handprint, the cuts on her hands, her dna/hair stuck in the blood, and of course the camera photos that captured the crime as it was happening.
Whether she claims to remember or not is a moot point, imo, because she is not going for the temporary insanity defense.
She can claim PTSD or disassociation or whatever else, and that would not matter because that's not going to self-defense. She's saying "I did this, but I had to because he attacked me". Her stonewalling on the details is not going to diminish the evidence and facts.
I think that she planned the trip with killing in mind. I saw his friend who said that Travis did not have a gun. This is a very good friend who said that he would have bragged and shown him the gun. And the thought that Travis had a gun, that was on the top shelf in his closet, is just a handy excuse for her, someone that lied numerous times. This is my opinion.
I agree, I feel kind of bad for Nurmi. He got stuck with this shit show and he didn't want it, he tried to get out of it. I'm sure that she is every attorney's nightmare.
I agree.
Prior to the trial, I did not think it was premeditated. Now I do. She left a big tail of all of the other places she went, bit no trail in AZ. She turned off her phone, she brought the gas cans, she paid cash. She did everything sh could to hide the fact that she went to see Travis. There is no other explanation for that. Even trying to hide from his friends, there would be no reason to cover her tracks, it's not like they're going to have access to her credit card accounts or receipts.
Yes, it snowed here today!!! At the same time, there was thunder and lightning. It was very strange.

This was just discussed on NG and the consensus was that it was not considered "reasonable force". One stab, one shot, okay, the argument could be made. Especially since she had left "the scene" by leaving the bathroom. She was not in imminent danger. But not this; this was overkill.
If I hit you and you hit me back, self-defense, reasonable force. If I hit you and you run away and come back with a gun and shoot me, that's not going to work.
Sure she can claim 'battered woman syndrome' or what have you, but there is no precedence for it. No one saw it, there is no proof, no police reports. Travis' friends say he was not violent, he never lashed out physically. There is no proof of her alleged abuse. Just Jodi's word.
ohh i am liking beth and jinkasouras tonight - how does she run thru the house w/ out leaving a spec of blood, but says she is caked w/ blood in the car?

Good point just raised by a NG guest though.
There was no gun powder or stippling of the gunshot wound on his head. Thus, the shot didn't come from contact or very close range; which is what would be if she was in contact with him holding her when it went off.
Stippling would be an actual burn mark on the skin, and thus would not be washed off. It wasn't there, the gun shot was not in very close contact.

Dear Diary,
Sorry I am writing this to you so late tonight. I have been busy with a few of my ghost friends. My ghosts come to visit me when I am by myself and things are really quiet. Johnny Cochran has been giving me really good legal advice. I listen to him more than I do to Nurmi. That is why I completely ignored most of what Nurmi wanted me to say today. I mean, seriously! He wanted me to say that I was sorry for killing Travis! Well, I absolutely refuse to feel bad for Travis being dead. He practically killed himself. Travis had a chance to make the right decision. I gave him plenty of opportunities. It was his choices that wound him up butchered. Not mine!
I have been thinking a lot about love lately. I'll admit that I don't understand the concept very well. I have heard people say that love means never having to say you are sorry, right? So why should I have to say "I am sorry" for what Travis made me do to him? If anyone deserves an apology, it is ME. Look at what Travis is putting ME through. It is MY life that is practically over. It is MY life that is on the line...not his. Travis gets to be in a much better place...where do I get to be? In jail. It is completely unfair! I have tried to love Travis enough to forgive him for what he has done to me, I really have. But, it is just too difficult. Maybe someday I will be able to...but I seriously doubt it.
It was so awful when I had to talk about how I almost died when I almost tried to commit suicide. That paper cut nick from the razor was the MOST pain I have ever felt in my WHOLE life. And for the next two days, anytime I bent my finger, I could feel the searing pain again. I hope I never have to feel that kind of pain again. It is just too much to bear. Talking about it today in court almost made me feel like I could cry. How can anyone even focus on Travis when they see the kind of pain I have been through?
Well, I better go. I am conducting a group seance tonight and I don't want to keep the spirits waiting.
Till next time,
Jodi

let me be clear, I don't buy her BS! All I'm saying is what it says in those jury instructions and what the defense is officially claiming and what I see in their plot.
I don't think it will work, but .......... I still see the sting of the crazy juries in history that bought a lot of BS.
There's somehow that 'duty to retreat' is being argued too. It's one of the things this judge ordered she rule on later. So that has be wondering when and how that applies or if somehow Nurmi will get that tossed as one of the things the jury can hear.
I'm going to start a petition for AZ to consider a new form of death penalty; Death by 1,000 Paper Cuts.
