I realized the reason I wasn’t married wasn’t because the type of person I was looking for doesn’t exist but that the type of person I wanted wouldn’t be interested in me.

from Travis' blog. It struck me as very sad. Of course he settled for Jodi if he felt inside that his ideal woman wouldn't look twice at him. He must have felt very lonely. And to compound that with breaking his chastity vows (yes it may sound silly to us, but not to him) must have made him feel even lower.

In that post he compares himself to his grandmother (who he says became a grandma the first time at 35 so I guess they start young) so he definitely deeply wished to just be married and have a family and couldn't figure out how to find the "one".

It just doesn't hit me as he was this super douchey sleazebag. Most guys flee commitment. He wanted a wife and children and to be right with God.

I guess it's just hitting me as very sad tonight.

Am I right in thinking Travis was first raised by the meth addicted parents, and then by his grandmother? I don't intend to condone his treatment of woman by any means, but, he hasn't been proven to have really done anything that most obnoxious guys in their 20's have done to most of their girlfriends repeatedly.

I also fully believe that really good men usually have some type of really good man involved in their raising. They learn to be good man by example. Maybe Travis didn't have that male role model.

Not to mention, it sounds like he was dating all the virginal religious women, so how could he possibly truly know how it feels to be cheated on to make him realize how much it was hurting Jodi? I'm sure she did some crying, but she strikes me as the clingy bitch that cries so often men don't even pay attention anymore. Makes them seem cold when they probably aren't. I guess what I am trying to say is I don't think Travis was really that bad of a person at all. He was still learning who he was and how to be. Worst thing I have heard so far is that he lied about being a virgin. He didn't sleep with a bunch of women. He slept with 1 woman and it probably truly bothered him inside. (which is probably his main reason to get away and her personality just helped him make up his mind)
