AUSTIN (KXAN/ KWKT) -- The woman facing charges in connection with the disappearance and death of two friends from Temple has been extradited to Bell County, officials say.
Maya Maxwell was booked into the Bell County jail at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday and faces a charge of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, which is a third-degree felony.
This case stretches from Austin to Michigan, but it started in Temple on Jan. 4 when friends Michael Swearingin and Jenna Scott vanished. Swearingin's car turned up in Austin, making authorities think they were maybe in the Texas capital. Maxwell is accused of stealing that car and leaving it in Austin.
Nearly two weeks later, the bodies of Swearingin and Scott were found in Ofuskee County, Oklahoma.
Scott's ex-boyfriend Cedric Marks, 44, was arrested on an Jan. 8 in Grand Rapids, Michigan on an outstanding warrant out of Temple. He is accused of breaking into Scott's Temple home in August.
Scott's current girlfriend is Maya Maxwell. His wife is Ginell McDonough. All three are currently in jail.
McDonough was booked into Muskegon County Jail on Jan. 11, charged with harboring a fugitive. She is said to have allowed Marks to stay in her home from Jan. 5 to Jan. 8 when he was arrested, all while knowing Marks had a warrant out for his arrest in Texas.
Maxwell was arrested on Jan. 11 in Michigan. In addition to the charges she faces for tampering with evidence, she was also named a person of interest in the murder investigation.
