A Chicago man confessed to killing his girlfriend's mother at a luxury hotel room in Bali, Indonesian authorities said Friday. Tommy Schaefer, 21, and his girlfriend Heather Mack, 19, both from Chicago, were arrested on the island on Aug. 13, a day after Sheila von Wiese-Mack's dead body was found in a suitcase inside the trunk of a taxi at a the St. Regis Bali Resort.
Indonesian police chief Col. Djoko Heru Utomo said
Schaefer confessed on Monday while under interrogation. "He was hurt and offended by the victim's words in an argument with him. That is the motive for the murder," Utomo told The Associated Press. Mack, who is three months pregnant, admitted later in the week to helping Schaefer dispose of the body by stuffing it into a suitcase.
