i don't give a shit about any of that - nor have i seen those movies... in the white girls move, the entire thing is predicated on guys wearing white face (and girl face?) and the movie couldn't have been made without it. but whatever. i think it looks like a dumb movie anyway.

the point, some people made artistic decisions to include that in the movies. i don't know enough about them to have an opinion.

she could have made the costume more obvious without resorting to that. for fucks sake, she's wearing a name tag that says 'crazy eyes'. to me, not going all the way makes me think that she knew it was not the best decision. oh no! i just had a an incident at the tanning salon - it's not black face!

Which is why I posted that costume. It's not just them being 'black' they're actually supposed to be an actual person. And there's a right and a wrong way to do it. I think this 'celeb' did it the right way.

She obviously did it for the controversy. I mean, there is no other inspiring reason to wear such a hideous beast of a Halloween costume, when you could be a glitter unicorn instead (or whatever it is you American weirdos dress up at this time of year).

I really don't understand how skin pigmentation has any correlation to, well, anything really. But I understand why this tomfoolery may be considered faux pas in the context of history. This 'black face' thing happened over here in Australia a few years ago ... and everyone totally lost their shit. It was pretty much like it was the most diabolical travesty and abomination to ever go down on Australian TV history.

In the grand scheme of things, it was all a little too much overly sensitive PC bullshit IMO. Particularly when there is much bigger social issues related to racism and disparagement that we should be contending with. But, you know, just don't.

I agree. There is a huge difference between classic minstrel style blackface and someone doing a costume to dress like a specific black person. Just as there's a difference between dressing up as Dennis Banks and wearing war paint, Chief Wahoo style.

I would never do either, myself. Just like I wouldn't say "knuckledragger" even though some people argue that it's not racially motivated.
