920 Foster Farms Chickens slaughtered with a Golf Club

Someone broke into a Foster Farms chicken shed in the Central Valley and used a golf club to massacre 920 chickens, authorities said.

The bloodbath happened just before 8:30 a.m. Sept. 20 in the town of Caruthers, about 17 miles south of Fresno.

The killers got into the chicken shed through a hole in the fence at 3691 West Swanson Ave. and used the club and possibly another instrument in the slaughter, said the Fresno County Sheriff?s Office.

Foster Farms estimated the damage at $5,000. The company is offering a reward for information leading to the convictions of those responsible.

"The perpetrator committed an unconscionable act of animal cruelty," a Foster Farms representative said in a statement. "This appears to be a random act of violence. It is the express policy of Foster Farms to treat its birds humanely and with compassion. Any intentional act to the contrary is unacceptable."

They found who did it:

FRESNO, Calif. — Deputies in central California have arrested four people — one adult and three juveniles — who are suspected of breaking into a Foster Farms chicken ranch and killing more than 900 birds with a golf club.

Fresno County sheriff's officials acting on several tips Wednesday tracked down 18-year-old Gabriel Quintero of Riverdale. Also taken into custody were two juvenile males, ages 15 and 17, from Caruthers, and a third juvenile male, age 17, from Lemoore. All have been booked on charges of burglary and felony cruelty to animals.

It wasn't immediately known if the suspects have attorneys.

Investigators say the suspects pulled back a fence Sept. 20 to gain access to a shed south of Fresno and massacred 920 chickens with a golf club and possibly another blunt instrument.
