    That's a huge problem with how this story is being nationally portrayed. Some people (on the other site) think this is a rural area (don't ask why), and some people assume "...it's near Detroit, so it must be just like Detroit." Wrong. This is a heavily populated middle class neighborhood with a strong police department.

    He does live like a mile from the Detroit border, but what people don't understand is that Detroit is a massive city and it's not entirely ghetto burned up houses.

    BREAKING: Ted Wafer found guilty of second-degree murder

    DETROIT (WJBK) - DETROIT (WJBK) -- Jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of a Detroit-area man who argued self-defense in the fatal shooting of Renisha McBride, an unarmed woman on his porch.

    The jury has spoken and found Ted Wafer guilty of second-degree murder.

    The verdict was read on the following counts:

    Count 1 -- Guilty of second-degree murder
    Count 2 - Guilty of Statuary Manslaughter
    Count 3 - Guilty of Felony Firearm

    A sentencing date has been set for August 21, 2014. Wafer could be sentenced to life in prison.

    The judge did not allow the reading of the verdict to be streamed online or on television.

    The jury met for about three hours Wednesday after hearing closing remarks from prosecutors and a lawyer for Theodore Wafer. Jurors returned Thursday to Wayne County court behind closed doors for about five hours before reaching a decision.

    The 55-year-old Dearborn Heights man has admitted to shooting and killing 19 year-old McBride in November of last year. Wafer says he pulled the trigger in self-defense after the she pounded on his door.

    The defense attorney had asked jurors to imagine themselves in Wafer's situation, awakened in the middle of the night. But prosecutors argued that is no reason to shoot someone and that Wafer had other options, including a call to police.

    McBride was drunk and had crashed her car hours earlier about a half-mile away.

    He put the nail in his coffin when he said he was "mad" that someone was knocking on his door. That sort of makes people side eye at your claim that you were scared. Especially since, you know... when you're scared you usually don't open your door to welcome your "attacker".
