Juan Gallindo (37) charged in rape and death of 1 month old daughter

Bernalillo County sheriff's deputies arrested a man who they said is accused of raping and killing a 1-month-old girl.At about 4 a.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to the 1900 block of Lake Avenue Southwest in Albuquerque on a report of a deceased child, Sheriff's Office Lt. David Knowles said.

Deputies found the 1-month-old baby dead when they arrived and are treating the death as suspicious, he said.

"A 1-month-old baby has died. It's a very tragic case. It's a very challenging case to investigate," Knowles said.Investigators said 37-year-old Juan Galindo was arrested in connection with the incident. Galindo is facing charges of aggravated criminal sexual penetration and child abuse resulting in death, deputies said.

"We want to know what happened 24 hours before this event, and what has taken place with the movement of people who knew, maybe, some pieces of information after the event," said Knowles.

Investigators said it remains unclear how the infant died, and it has taken them a long time to process the scene because evidence was all over the house.

The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department said it is assisting in the investigation."The evidence doesn't lie. The evidence is going to lead us down the path that we need to go to. We just need to be able to examine it, and analyze it for what it's telling us. This isn't TV of course, so it takes us time to be able to get some information," Knowles said.

According to court records, Galindo has a history of drug trafficking charges. At this point, investigators declined to comment on Galindo's relation to the baby or her mother.

Law enforcement won't say if there are other children living in the home.

Baby found dead suffered grievous injuries

Information in a recently-released criminal complaint shows the baby found dead Thursday in Albuquerque suffered from obvious and grievous injuries before she died.The complaint says police responded to a 911 call about a dead infant who had “been taking a bottle and choked” and “had passed away.

”Police found the month-old baby girl dead in her home with bruising to her face, neck, eyes and chest, including two black eyes. She also appeared to have a bite mark on her cheek.Police immediately suspected the baby had been sexually assaulted because the infant’s abdomen was distended and there was a significant amount of blood in her private area.

A partial emergency autopsy done on the child also showed she had numerous brain bleeds, a lacerated liver and rib fractures in different stages of healing.

The baby’s mother, Pauline Sanchez, told police she had left the home at 1925 Lake SW Wednesday do some shopping, and later stopped by the Hard Rock casino.When she came home Thursday morning, she found her boyfriend, Juan Galindo, holding the dead baby and telling her she had choked on a bottle.

Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputies questioned Galindo, 37, who told them he had used $40 worth of methamphetamine earlier Wednesday.He said he awoke around 10 p.m. Wednesday to find the baby crying and choking and began patting her back with increasing force.Galindo told the detectives he inserted his finger into the baby's private parts because he saw her stomach was hard and he “thought she might be constipated.”After he saw the baby was dead, Galindo said he tried to revive her, then sat outside with her body under the porch for three hours.

Police arrested Galindo, 37, and charged him with aggravated criminal sexual penetration and child abuse resulting in death.It is still not clear whether Galindo is the baby’s father.Family members we spoke to Friday say the baby's mother is "distraught."

Man Indicted On Charges Of Murder, Rape Of Baby

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --
On Tuesday, a grand jury returned an indictment against the man accused of abusing and killing a 1-month-old baby.

Juan Galindo is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse and aggravated criminal sexual penetration of a child.

Galindo is an illegal immigrant who has used several aliases and birth dates, authorities said.

Detectives also said he has six children with different women and that he's put a child in danger before.

"He has been arrested for a case involving child abuse before in Texas, I believe in 1993, for some sort of DWI-related incident," Bernalillo County Sheriff?s Lt. Justin Dunlap said. Galindo sneaked back into the country after being deported in August, police said.
