I don't know about everyone else, but I know in the school district that I work in, the kids can't wear hoodies, hats or anything that will keep you from seeing their faces. This case pretty much set that into motion here.

My school district banned black trench coats immediately after. A group of kids were suspended for parading around in trench coats across the street from the high school. The kids were just goofing around. One Mom bought her son a white trench coat. I'm not too sure how that came out. School personnel were trying to be profilers.
Finally, since Sandy Hook, they seem to have a decent lockdown plan. It took years to get this far.
My daughter has to wear uniforms (even the coats and hoodies are school issued) and they all have security tags with bar codes on them. To open any door, they must scan those tags....even the bathroom. All the doors are made of some weird type of hard steel. Every room has some type of closet room added on. The teachers call it the panic room. I guess they are secured rooms.
There are always moments of events that are frozen in my own mind when I think about it.
That moment in Columbine will always be the 911 call from Mrs. Nelson. When she has to whisper because the shooters came in...scary, but it was actually what you hear in the background that's the worst part.

The mother of Columbine High School shooter Dylan Klebold is planning a memoir in which she will confront the 'indescribable grief and shame' she has lived with since the 1999 tragedy.
Crown Publishers said on Tuesday that it had acquired a book by Susan Klebold, saying she was compelled to share her story after the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and other schools.
The book is currently untitled and has no release date. Klebold will donate any author profits to mental health research and charitable organizations.
Dylan Klebold and fellow senior student Eric Harris killed 12 students and one teacher and injured 26 others at the Colorado school before taking their own lives in 1999.
The large-scale attack also involved a fire bomb used to distract fire fighters.
At the time, it was the worst school shooting in the country's history before in 2012, shooter Adam Lanzo killed 20 students and six teaching staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
Susan Klebold has previously described her feelings in an essay for Oprah Winfrey's O magazine and in interviews for Andrew Solomon's book, Far from the Tree.
Mrs Klebold and her husband Tom Klebold, have spoken little to the press following the Columbine tragedy, The New York Times reported in 2004, but did not move or change their names.
In her lengthy essay for O Magazine in 2009, Mrs Klebold wrote: 'In the weeks and months that followed the killings, I was nearly insane with sorrow for the suffering my son had caused, and with grief for the child I had lost.'
She continued: 'But while I perceived myself to be a victim of the tragedy, I didn't have the comfort of being perceived that way by most of the community.
I was widely viewed as a perpetrator or at least an accomplice since I was the person who had raised a 'monster.''
Mrs Klebold also told author Andrew Solomon: 'I can never decide whether it’s worse to think your child was hardwired to be like this and that you couldn’t have done anything, or to think he was a good person and something set this off in him.'
The killers' diaries from the time offered chilling details about their activities in the months before the attack. They had 'to do' lists, with each purchase of gasoline or a weapon marked off, and they had a hit list with at least 42 entries, all of them blacked out.
On a calendar entry for April 20, 1999, the time 11.10 is at the top - an approximate reference to the time the attack began.
Elsewhere in the calendar are notations including 'get nails' and 'get propane, fill my clips' and 'finish fuses'.
'Once I finally start my killing, keep this in mind, there are probably about 100 people max in the school alone who I don't want to die, the rest MUST (expletive) DIE!' Harris wrote in a journal entry from October 1998, six months before the attack.
A scrawled entry in Klebold's day planner apparently sketches out April 20, 1999, down to the minute, starting with a 6am meeting, a 10.30am 'set up,' an 11.12am 'gear up' and at 11.16am, 'HAHAHA.'

EFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Columbine High School will be closed Monday as students and staff mark the 16th anniversary of the mass shooting at the school.
Students are encouraged to gather at the Columbine Memorial, which commemorates the 12 students and one teacher killed in the massacre on April 20, 1999.
Since the shooting, the school has been closed every April 20.
“Out of respect and remembrance for the 13 loved ones who were lost in 1999, as well as the countless individuals impacted by this terrible incident, we will continue to honor the tradition of not holding classes on April 20 for the foreseeable future,” principal K.C. Somers wrote in a letter to students and staff earlier this month.

The school will also host a Run for Remembrance on May 2.
Two teenage gunmen opened fire at the school before committing suicide.
The students who died were Cassie Bernall, Steven Curnow, Corey DePooter, Kelly Fleming, Matthew Kechter, Daniel Mauser, Daniel Rohrbough, Rachel Scott, Isaiah Shoels, John Tomlin, Lauren Townsend and Kyle Velasquez.
Teacher William “Dave” Saunders was also killed.
Okay, so I haven't read this thread yet. I admit. But did anyone mention some of the ties between Columbine and the movie "Heathers"? I'm watching it out of the blue, but the big end scene is Christian Slater in a black trenchcoat walking in to his high school with explosives to blow it up.
I never made the connection before, but then again I haven't seen this movie since before Columbine.

Klebold has said that the Sandy Hook shootings of 2012 helped convince her to share her story and that she is donating profits from the book to mental health charities and research.

The choice to write the book was a difficult one for Sue Klebold, but she hopes the title will enable other parents to notice signs that their children might become violent. Signs she regrettably says she she missed.
‘It is very hard to live with the fact that someone you loved and raised brutally killed people in such a horrific way,’ Mrs Klebold explains in her interview with Diane Sawyer. ‘I think we like to believe that our love and our understanding is protective, and that if anything were wrong with my kids, I would know, but I didn't know, and it’s very hard to think of that.
Klebold goes on to say that before the shooting rampage, she was convinced that she was a good mother, and that her son Dylan could talk to her about anything. But the reality was something different.
‘Part of the shock of this was learning that what I believed and how I parented was an invention in my own mind, that it was a completely different world that he was living in,' she says.
