Former TV anchor Angelynn Mock (47) charged with murder of her mother (80)

A former TV anchor has been arrested and charged with murder in the stabbing death of her 80-year-old mother.

Angelynn Mock, 47, is accused of killing her mother by stabbing her multiple times in Wichita, Kansas. She was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder, police said.

The Wichita Police Department said officers responded to a “reported cutting” at a residence where Mock’s mother, Anita Avers, was found unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds around 7:52 a.m. Friday.

Mock allegedly had cuts on her hands and told emergency dispatchers she stabbed her mother in self-defense: “Calling party stabbed the mother to save herself.”

Mock is currently being held on $1 million bond.

According to NBC, Mock is best known for her work in television as “Angie Mock,” a morning news anchor on Fox 2 (KTVI-TV) in St. Louis from 2011 to 2014 and Fox 25 (KOKH-TV) in Oklahoma City.

Not defending this woman or saying that it was self defense, but you would be surprised at the strength of some elderly folks. When I worked at the nursing home, it would take two to three people sometimes to restrain a resident if they were suffering from some kind of dementia and in the middle of a meltdown. Black eyes were not uncommon.

A former television news anchor has pleaded guilty to murdering her 80-year-old mother in a fatal stabbing that took place last Halloween.

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 48, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder in connection with the Oct. 31, 2025, killing of her mother, Anita Avers, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday, Aug. 21.

The plea was entered before District Court Judge Faith Johnson. Under the terms of the agreement, Mock faces a presumptive sentence of life in prison with eligibility for parole after 25 years, according to prosecutors.

Mock initially claimed that she entered her mother’s bedroom and found sharpened knives on the bed before Avers followed her with a knife and tried to fight her, according to the affidavit. Mock told investigators that she stabbed her mother to “save herself.”

In another account, Mock claimed she had been telling Avers about an upcoming job interview when her mother began sharpening knives and said she was jealous of her.

“I had to kill her, she wasn’t going to stop,” Mock said, according to the affidavit.

Mock also spoke to herself after the killing and made statements indicating that she believed her mother was the devil, PEOPLE previously reported.
