The Royal Grenada Police Force is asking for the public's help in locating 44-year-old U.S. citizen Elizabeth "Liz" Waddell, who was last seen at Grand Anse Beach on July 22.

Waddell's husband, Cailen Waddell, told ABC11 that his wife has been missing since Wednesday. He described her as about 5 feet tall with short blonde hair.

Cailen Waddell, who serves as the Town of Cary's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources manager, traveled to Grenada on Friday to assist with search efforts.

Liz Waddell, a physical therapist from Cary, N.C., vanished nearly a week ago while on vacation in St. George’s, the capital of Grenada. She was last seen on July 22, according to a missing person alert issued by the Royal Grenada Police Force.

Amanda Romano-Harmon, a spokesperson for Waddell’s family and a longtime friend of hers, told NBC News correspondent Jesse Kirsch in a segment that aired on TODAY July 27 that Waddell and another friend were sharing an Airbnb rental. When the friend did not see Waddell at the rental home’s pool on July 22, she went looking nearby at Grand Anse Beach and only found Waddell’s towel.

“The last sighting that we have of her confirmed on a camera is between noon and 1 p.m. on Wednesday,” Romano-Harmon said. “There was an area bar and grill that has a camera that faces out towards that pier in the bay. She was just kind of swimming and floating along, but then she floated off the camera’s view.”

Romano-Harmon, who was not on the trip with Waddell, said when Waddell didn’t return after a few hours, the friend filed a missing persons report.

The family of a missing Cary woman believe there was no foul play involved in her disappearance.

In a statement on Wednesday, Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, wrote on the website FindLiz.com, "after careful and thoughtful consultation with family, local authorities, the U.S. Embassy, and others here in Grenada, I join authorities in believing there was no foul play.”

The family also shared on the FindLiz website, surveillance video from the Airbnb and a photo of Waddell as she left the Airbnb in an orange top and blue-and-white striped shorts.

Her husband believes she went for a swim in that clothing.

— Two weeks after a Cary woman was reported missing in Grenada, her husband says she most likely drowned, but doubts still remain.

Several of Waddell’s family and friends went to Grenada last week in an effort to help find her, but the search was not successful, according to her husband, Cailen Waddell. The trip did result in new information about the exact time she may have disappeared, with Cailen sharing that she was seen far from shore around 5:30 p.m. by two jet skiers. Elizabeth communicated to the skiers she was confident in her swimming and where she was in the water.

While Cailen said he, the family and the Grenadian authorities do not suspect foul play, in an update released Thursday, he wrote that questions still remained.

According to Cailen, a conversation between Elizabeth and some jet skiers saw them trying to convince her to ride back to shore with them for “5 to 10 minutes.” However, they ended up leaving without her after she said she was a good swimmer and “gave them a thumbs up,” Cailen wrote.

“Though we cannot be 100% certain, based on all the available information, we believe that it most likely was Liz that they saw in the water,” Cailen wrote. “The Jet-Skiers voluntarily met with the Family, even accompanying them out on a boat to show the approximate spot they saw her.”

“A lot about this doesn’t make sense to us,” Cailen writes. “I do not believe she swam for 5.5 hours (from when she was seen at 12:04 on camera). Also she wasn’t swimming towards where she ended up. Could she have been on the beach along Grand Anse? Absolutely, but we are not aware of any other sightings of her, or security camera footage from the numerous hotels showing her in this area.”

Cailen also wrote that he does not believe that Elizabeth could have made the swim so far into the Grand Anse Bay, which he estimates is a third of a mile from the shore. He wrote that the swim seemed to far exceed her swimming abilities.

Elizabeth was “not really” a good swimmer, Cailen explained in the update. He said that while she had taken some swimming classes, she was most comfortable using flotation devices.

“She took 4 with her to Grenada in her suitcase, and for sure used 2 of them earlier in the trip but didn’t have one as far as we know on that day. We should note that the water in the bay is very easy to float in and it is very calm and almost lake-like near the shore,” Cailen wrote.

It is strange she told the jet skiers she was a good/strong swimmer but in all actuality, she was not. It could have been suicide.

As I was reading that page, I think it was suicide as well. She intentionally didn't bring her flotation devices and waved off the jet skiers. They obviously thought it was strange for her to be out there just floating which is why they tried to convince her to get on to the jet ski with them. I think she did this on purpose, sadly.
