Angelica Brophy (44) last seen 7/6/2026 near Palomar Mountain State Park, CA

San Diego County rescue crews and dive teams are actively searching for a missing Oceanside woman in Palomar Mountain State Park.

Angelica Brophy has been missing since July 6 after the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Oceanside Police said Brophy was last seen at 3:30 p.m. on July 6 at Harrah’s Resort in Valley Center.
On July 8, detectives contacted Brophy’s cell phone carrier and pinged her phone, according to police, but were unable to get any information as the phone was either turned off or its battery was dead.

Her abandoned vehicle was found in the parking lot of Palomar Mountain State Park on July 9, leading California State Parks and San Diego County Sheriff’s rescue crews to begin looking for her there.

The search for missing Oceanside mother of two Angelica Brophy continued Thursday as family, friends, and dozens of law enforcement personnel returned to Palomar Mountain State Park, where her vehicle was found one week ago.

Brophy was last seen 10 days ago at Harrah's Resort in Valley Center. Her car was discovered three days later at Palomar Mountain State Park, prompting an ongoing search of the surrounding area.

On Thursday morning, Brophy's family, friends, and volunteers searched trails near where her husband found her vehicle. Despite another day of searching, there was no sign of Brophy.

"We just want to find my sister," said Brophy's brother, Ramon Fabregas. "She has two kids, and the whole family's here."

"We scoured outside the park. We went all the way up to the observatory," Fabregas said. "One team went up the observatory trail all the way up to the Palomar Observatory, and they didn't find anything."

Thursday's effort also included more than 50 law enforcement personnel, including officers from the Oceanside Police Department, San Diego Sheriff's search-and-rescue teams, K-9 units, drones, dive teams, and other specialized resources.
OPD told News 8 they are not releasing surveillance video from Harrah's resort, where Brophy was last seen ten days ago. They also aren't releasing information about her cell phone, and said her vehicle has been impounded as part of the investigation.

The fact they aren't releasing any footage leads me to believe she is not in danger (like kidnapped) and she went out there to kill herself.

OPD on Tuesday afternoon confirmed with FOX 5/KUSI that while they are still investigating the case, a physical search of Palomar Mountain State Park is reportedly no longer taking place at this time.

“We are reaching the point where all available search and rescue resources have been utilized,” OPD said. “This week, we will be meeting with our partner agencies, including the Sheriff’s Office and California State Parks, to review next steps moving forward.”

The department also says its focus remains on conducting a thorough and coordinated response, and is committed to supporting the Brophy family throughout the process.
OPD’s Chief of Police Taurino Valdovinos on July 14 gave an update and timeline for Brophy’s disappearance, during which he said there was no evidence of foul play. However, at the time, he did explain they’re treating the case as an open investigation until Brophy is found.

It has been one month since Angelica Brophy, an emergency room nurse and Oceanside mother of two, vanished.

Investigators have said that foul play does not seem to be a factor, but are still treating Angelica’s disappearance as an open investigation.

Oceanside Police have said they plan to continue working with Angelica’s family and other local agencies to locate her.

Human remains were discovered late Thursday in Palomar Mountain State Park, prompting authorities to secure the area overnight until a recovery operation can begin Friday morning, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Sgt. Martinez said investigators do not yet know the identity of the person or the circumstances surrounding the death.

Authorities cannot yet rule out any possibilities, including whether the remains could belong to a lost hiker, a homicide victim or Angelica Brophy, who was reported missing July 6 at 9:30 pm.

Human remains found at Palomar Mountain Wednesday night are not believed to be of the missing woman Angelica Brophy, Oceanside police confirmed.

Since the remains were found when it was dark, detectives could not determine identifying characteristics or the extent of the injuries.

The remains were likely those of a male, SDSO investigators said.
