Since this story first ran, more details have emerged through reporting by 614NOW, which spoke with Kelly Bruce, host of the podcast Brian Shaffer Dead or Alive, who collaborated on the True Crime Garage series.
According to that reporting, a listener sent Bruce the name of a person he believed authorities should look into.
When Bruce shared it with a Columbus police detective, she says he told her his unit had received the same name from a friend of Shaffer’s shortly after the 2006 disappearance.Two tips, nearly 20 years apart, pointing at the same person. Neither police nor the researchers have made the name public, and no arrest has been made. The reporting also surfaced investigative details that hadn’t been widely known.
In the weeks after Shaffer went missing, his cell phone could still be traced by his carrier to a series of locations around Columbus, though not precisely enough to act on.
And at one point, police obtained a search warrant to dig into the basement floor of a house near Lane Avenue. They found only an old fuel oil tank.

Interesting. If he did something to him, I still want to know how they think he got the Brian or his body out without being seen.
I know. That is the part that is puzzling.
Curious to know their relationship....how did he know Brian?
