Julie Goforth (63) found dead - was last seen 7/10/2026 in the Mojave Desert, CA

A desperate search is underway for a California woman who went missing on Friday after riding a dirt bike in the Mojave Desert with a friend.

Julie Goforth, 63, of Long Beach, California, was riding a dirt bike in the El Mirage Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area on Friday morning.

Goforth was riding with her wife, Laura Wells, and a friend, Juan, all of whom got up early that morning to go for a ride before temperatures climbed too high.
Goforth has not been seen since she turned back toward the trailhead from a spot near Adelanto to take a break

Goforth never returned to the vehicle they had driven to the trailhead. Wells added that Juan said Goforth had fallen off the bike a couple of times before she went missing but was “fine” afterward.

On Friday and Saturday, search team that included law enforcement officers, volunteers, dogs, drones and a helicopter searched for Goforth without success.

I don't foresee this having a happy ending.

Falling off the bike a few times feels odd. Maybe the heat got to her and she had a medical event.

So, she was only out there with the "friend", not her wife.

Julie Goforth’s family has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to her safe return. “We just want her to come home,” said her daughter, Candice Walker.

Goforth, an experienced rider, had recently gotten the new dirt bike, and she visited the 27,000-acre off-roading area with a friend to try it out, according to her daughter.

But after struggling a bit to ride the bike, Goforth separated from her friend, telling him she was going back to their vehicle, Walker said.
The friend later returned to the vehicle to find that Goforth wasn’t there, she said.

Although the bike was new, Goforth rides at the off-roading area five or six times a year, her daughter said.

While family members initially suspected she suffered a fall — perhaps into one of the old mine shafts that dot the area — the fact that search teams have covered so much ground to no avail has raised concerns that something more nefarious may have happened, Walker said. “Your mind just starts wandering,” she said.

If I was out riding with a friend, I would never separate and meet back up later. You are there to ride with a friend, not by yourself so that makes no sense.

    It is rather suspect.
