Multiple adults arrested after 16 children rescued from 'horrific' conditions in Ohio home

HAMDEN, Ohio (WSYX) — Residents of the small Vinton County village of Hamden are grappling with shock and disbelief after authorities say they discovered 16 children living in what officials have described as horrific conditions inside a home.

An investigation has led to multiple felony child endangerment charges.

Responding to an inquiry about activity on Ohmer Street, Steve Irwin, Communications Director of the Office of Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson, said BCI and the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office were executing a search warrant as part of an ongoing investigation.

Authorities say 16 children were removed from the home after investigators uncovered what they have described as dangerous living conditions.
Neighbors said they never realized so many children were living there.

Four adults present in the home were arrested: Gary Siders, Sr., Gary Siders, Jr., Elizabeth Siders, and Christina Siders. They face 17 criminal charges.

According to the attorney general, it is not a human trafficking situation.

Some of the 16 children were being treated at hospitals across the state. Two others were flown to nearby trauma centers. The kids range in age from 1 1/2 to 18 years of age.

I've been down this rabbit hole for DAYS. Rumours and speculation but very little makes sense. Saying all the kids were born to get benefits but they clearly lived in extreme poverty and I can't find anywhere that confirms the children were registered at a hospital or a school. Sadly, I think this is abuse all the way around. I wouldn't be surprised if there was incest involved in the births of some of these children. If the children were registered with ANY authority, the system failed miserably.

What gets me is this family member was okay with there being 'only around 10 children' in the small house, which is why they never reported them. However, had they known there were 16, they would have done something. Geez.

Family members of the 16 “almost feral” children rescued from a feces-filled Ohio house of horrors had no idea there were that many kids living inside.

Grandparents Gary Siders Sr., 73, and Christina “Lynn” Siders, 67, were arrested alongside their son, Gary “Bub” Siders Jr., 36, and his wife, Elizabeth Siders, 33, after authorities allegedly found the children, ages 1 to 18, living in squalor and isolation inside a cramped 12-by-12 room.

Ronnie Fletcher, who’s married to one of the grandparents’ adult daughters, said he and his wife knew the younger Siders had a large family – but believed there were only around 10 children.
They only learned of the staggering 16 kids when news of their relatives’ arrests broke, he told local news outlet WOWK 13 – and said the revelation left the extended family “horrified” and “worried about the kids.”

The children were forced to live inside the cramped room littered with human waste for at least the past four years, according to authorities.

Relatives would have intervened had they known what was happening, the son-in-law insisted.

That is insane. People don't want to admit that they just didn't care. Should be ashamed.

And how do they not know of 6 kids?? The pregnancies, births, were hidden? The other kids didn't mention them to anyone? Sounds like none of the relatives even bothered to keep in touch with them, they should at least be honest about that.

Ohio mom 'pregnant again' after 16 children rescued from house of horrors

If the reports are confirmed, the child will be the 19th child Elizabeth Siders has given birth to after she lost conjoined twins just an hour after they were born in 2022

Speaking on her show, Crime Fix with Angenette Levy, the host said: "So, right now, it would appear that Elizabeth Ciders is actually pregnant with her 19th child."

Mark Weaver, a former Ohio deputy attorney general, also weighed in on the rumors. He said: "There are special problems that arise with a pregnant inmate. They present a unique health problem that most rural jails are not equipped to handle.

"She may get bond on the basis alone. She's obviously differently situated, if in fact she is pregnant."

Mirror US has been unable to independently confirm whether Siders is indeed pregnant. Elizabeth was just 15 when she had her first child. Authorities has said they suspect the incident is 'intrafamily,' suggesting incestual relations could be involved.

According to investigators, the children were confined to a space measuring approximately 12 feet by 12 feet (3.5 meters by 3.5 meters), with human waste scattered throughout the area.
