Gracie the giraffe found - was missing from Cedar Hollow Ranch near Leakey, TX since 6/23/26

The Real County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to be on the lookout for a missing giraffe, last spotted near Leakey, about 100 miles northwest of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country.

The giraffe's name is Gracie, and she has rounded ears, according to a department release first shared on Monday, June 23, at just after 12:30 p.m.

Gracie was last seen on a game camera west of Leakey. She is missing from the Cedar Hollow Ranch.

Her owners are offering a $5,000 reward for information that could lead to her capture and safe return. The sheriff's office confirmed to MySA that the exotic animal remains missing as of June 23.
Those with information on Gracie's whereabouts can contact ranch manager Vick Jones at 830-279-5822 or the Real County Sheriff's Office at 830-232-5201.

This is from another news story.

Gracie vanished after she was feeding on a hillside where the ranch’s other giraffes have typically not ventured, Jones said. She then found her way to an unfenced area on the opposite side of an 8-foot-tall gate and left the ranch, Jones said.

I've been following the missing giraffes from the VA area for months. I saw they finally found them and then I saw this story. I was beginning to wonder what the deal was with all the missing giraffes! With the price of beef lately, I was wondering if some redneck had stolen this one and eaten her. I'm glad they found her safe!

Yeah, the other case is more convoluted.

    https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/nati...earch/3952424/

Two giraffe calves missing from the Natural Bridge Zoo have been safely located after an investigation by the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. Their recovery ends more than a year of uncertainty and legal disputes over what happened to them.

The calves are now being housed at the Georgia Safari Conservation Park, according to WSB Atlanta. The Attorney General's office said the animals were found through coordinated enforcement efforts and transferred to a facility equipped to care for young giraffes. Officials have not released where the calves were discovered or how they were moved from the zoo, citing an active criminal investigation.
Concerns about the Natural Bridge Zoo's animal care began well before the giraffe calves disappeared. In 2023, state authorities seized 96 animals after documenting inadequate care and unsafe conditions.

The following year, owner Gretchen Mogensen was convicted on animal‑cruelty charges, served a 30‑day jail sentence and was restricted from owning certain species, according to NBC affiliate WSLS. The zoo and its four co‑owners faced a combined 55 misdemeanor charges tied to animal‑care violations.
Alicia Silverstone has been offering a reward for their return.

Cedar Hollow Ranch manager Vic Jones says reports that the missing Texas giraffe, Gracie, has been found safe are false.

Gracie disappeared nearly two weeks ago, Jones told MySA. Her owner is offering $5,000 for information leading to her rescue. Jones said he has even hired helicopters to try to find the animal as the search continues, but that efforts have been complicated by the need to search other ranchers' property.

Confusion spread online after the global news outlet The Guardian incorrectly stated that the animal was found safely following a community-wide search. The article appears to cite a local news outlet.

"No, she has not been found. That's just people having fun with the internet, getting their little one minute of fame," Jones told MySA on Wednesday, June 24.

The Real County Sheriff's Office also told MySA that the animal has not yet been found. Jones noted that in the hours since news of Gracie's disappearance first spread, a wave of AI-generated memes has flooded online discourse amid search efforts.

I don't know why but I just adore giraffes. Last time I was in Florida (where I met a real one!) I got a tattoo of an angry little baby giraffe. It's the CUTEST!

First thing I thought of is this is Texas, which has that high number of tigers in captivity. I think someone want to "add" her to thier collection of wild animals.

But if she just wandered away I feel like they should have found her?

Looks like they have actually found her this time.

After being missing for nearly two weeks, Gracie the Giraffe has been found.

According to Vick Jones, the giraffe's owner, Gracie was spotted shortly before 7 a.m. during an aerial search of an area roughly 4 miles from the ranch, near the game camera where she had been seen several days ago.

Jones said finding Gracie was the easy part, and that the real work starts now. Jones told NBC DFW that he will now need to assemble a team to corral Gracie, tranquilize her, and put her on a transport trailer to bring her back to the ranch.
