3 people evacuated from a cruise ship had the Hantavirus

    https://www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...nds-rcna343816

"The World Health Organization said three passengers have died after contracting the Andes strain of the virus, which is known to be transmissible between people. The strain is found in parts of Argentina, where the luxury cruise ship MV Hondius departed.

In a Wednesday update, the WHO said that there were so far eight cases, three of which laboratory testing confirmed as hantavirus.

Despite the perilous situation on the ship, passenger and travel blogger Kasem Hato said things have "been very calm."

"People are taking the situation seriously but without any panic, trying to keep social distancing and wearing masks to be safe," he said in a statement to NBC News.

He said the ship’s captain and leadership have been keeping passengers informed."

In school I learned about this virus. they are looking for rats, when I thought mice were the vector. I know it causes respiratory failure.

I wouldnt be leaving my room.

I dont think it killed Gene Hackman but it definately killed his wife. They said they found no rodents on the ship, so they are assuming it was spread person to person. I was under the impression that the one that killed Gene Hackman's wife came from mouse feces.

This sounds like a nightmare. I have never wanted to do a cruise, mostly because it makes me feel uber anxious to be in the middle of the ocean. Like, there is no escape. Then COVID happened and I am like NOPE. These poor passengers.

Ive been on a couple cruises, and had some...experiences.

    1. My cousins got food poisoning and they quarentined the hell out of them (as they should) they said they were stuck in a room and got bored so went into a room off of that they sworn had human size freezers (Im assuming thats the morgue)

    2. My sister got Whooping Cough from a woman in Nassau who was coughing up a lung and my sister bought a purse from her.

    3. There have been Norovirus outbreaks but I never got it.

Royal Carribean is better than Carnival. The end.

This is one of the many reasons that I'm not interested in going on a cruise. I guess I'm lucky that boats make me sick.

A May 2026 hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship is suspected to have originated from a bird-watching tour at a landfill in Argentina, where travelers may have been exposed to rodent droppings carrying the virus. While birds themselves do not carry or spread hantavirus, they can inhabit areas infested by rodents, which are the primary vectors for the deadly Andes virus strain.

    this has a good timeline.

I mean, who goes on a bird watching tour at a landfill in a poor country?

OMG same! Being stuck somewhere with no escape...another reason I also HATE flying. The fact I could freak out and have nowhere to go scares me...

Here is a picture of the landfill where the birdwatching tour was. What on earth could go wrong?

We don't go to landfills to bird watch. We go to landfills to drop off dead bodies!

What do you think the birds are eating? Answer eye balls.

A KLM air stewardess has been hospitalised with hantavirus symptoms, according to the ministry of health. The woman was briefly in contact with one of the Dutch people that died after contracting the virus late last month.

That person had boarded a KLM flight in South Africa but was deemed too ill to fly and removed from the plane shortly after.

The flight attendant is said to have mild symptoms and is in isolation at Amsterdam UMC, where she is being tested for the virus.

Meanwhile, a second airplane carrying a patient with hantavirus symptoms has landed at Schiphol airport after being delayed in Gran Canaria due to technical issues.

A local Savannah news station reported that one of the cruise passengers lives in Brunswick, GA. Great! They needed to keep all their asses on the ship for at least 8 weeks.

The MV Hondius is set to reach the Spanish island of Tenerife on Saturday or Sunday, the Associated Press reported May 8. The U.S. will send a plane to the Canary Islands to repatriate the 17 U.S. citizens onboard the ship.

Measures are being put in place to ensure the ship's passengers do not come into contact with local residents during the evacuations from the cruise ship.
"They will arrive at a completely isolated, cordoned-off area," Virginia Barcones, Spain's head of emergency services, said at a press conference on May 7. "They will board vehicles that are isolated and under guard and will proceed to a section of the airport that will be completely cordoned off. They will board the aircraft and depart."

"I am saying this so that the people of the Canary Islands, the men and women living there, can rest assured that there will be absolutely no possibility of contact at any time," she concluded.

I guess there will be an "ice cream party" on the ship

So the 17 US passangers, none of them are showing symptoms?

This reminds me so much of the movie Outbreak.

This guy stopped by my workplace and started talking about the cruise ship. He said the person (who may be infected) who lives in Brunswick is a real estate agent. I got her name so I can see who to avoid.

And she is just there free to potentially infect anyone she comes into contact with?

They should have to do some type of quarentine.

So, it's all over the news now and people are thinking this is the next COVID. I don't think it's that serious as they've caught the people infected early enough and they've been moving through the timeline, who they came in to contact with and are isolating them. We have two Irish citizens that were on the ship and they brought them home, but are keeping them in quarantine.

The U.S. isn't quarantining anyone and the EU is concerned about it. I mean, WHY wouldn't you keep them quarantined until it's satisfied that they don't have it and won't spread it? DO THEY WANT ANOTHER LOCKDOWN?! This is YET AGAIN another fuck up by Trump and when it spreads all over the place, he will blame someone else for it when he could have stopped the spread.

ETA: Who the fuck goes to a landfill to birdwatch on vacation? Idiots.

Don't forget his pal Emlo slashed staffing for way too many agencies that would work to keep the public protected from an outbreak. but hey ... ballroom over people..am i right?!?!
