UID female found murdered in Caroline County, VA on 3/27/26 identified as Helen Marie Pullen-Banks (56)

On Friday, March 27, deputies with the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area of Bagby and Mt. Cloud roads after a caller reported finding what they believed to be a body on their property.

“The caller, understandably shaken, did not approach the individual and immediately contacted 911,” the sheriff’s office said.
When deputies arrived, they confirmed that the caller had indeed found a deceased person, who was not yet identified, and immediately began to collect forensic evidence. Officials have since confirmed that the victim is a female, though their age and identity have not yet been shared.
However, authorities did confirm that the person’s death is being investigated as a homicide, as foul play is thought to be involved.

“Based on the information available at this time, investigators do not believe this to be a random incident,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said investigators have made “significant progress” in the investigation, but the identity of the person whose body was found has not yet been positively confirmed.

“This is one of the more disturbing cases our office has encountered,” the social media post said. “The sick and deliberate efforts taken to conceal the victim’s identity have made this investigation more complex, but our investigators have remained focused and determined. We are making progress, and we will continue to pursue every lead until we identify this individual and bring those responsible to justice.”

“It’s a pretty gruesome task to ask a family member to identify an individual that frankly is in the state that this individual is,” said Dana Schrad with the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation. “In the meantime, you’ll do things like check missing person databases, and anything else — any other reports of who potentially the individual could be to try to narrow it down as quickly as possible, so that family can be notified.”

Namus states that the remains were burned beyond recognition. I am just so curious how they know then that she is connected with the other case?

Good find! Last time I looked (about a week after the murder) she wasn't in NAMUS, so they have only recently added her.

No one is missing a female in their life? These guys were young and this area is somewhat rural. Where did this UID girl come from that no one knows her?

The daughters of Helen Pullen Banks are speaking out, one day after a medical examiner confirmed their mother was the woman found dead in a wooded area in Caroline County four months ago.

Banks, 56, was found dead in the woods off Bagby Road in March.

Investigators said she was so badly disfigured that a special DNA test was required to identify her.

That process took more than three months.

Four suspects are now facing several charges in Pullen Banks’ death, including first-degree murder. All four are being held without bond:

Devonti Gregory Pettaway, 19, of Chesterfield — held at Meherrin River Regional Jail
Kennady Jade Lambert, 18, of Hopewell — held at Pamunkey Regional Jail
Rashad Antonio Mayfield, 21, of Glen Allen — held at Rappahannock Regional Jail
Jaden Lamont Phillips, 20, of Richmond — held at Pamunkey Regional Jail

Authorities in Virginia have released the identity of the woman whose body was found days before a missing teen’s body was discovered in what police now believe to be a connected case.

Helen Marie Pullen Banks, 56, has been identified as the woman whose unrecognizable remains were found in the unincorporated area of Sparta, Va., on March 27, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement earlier this month.

Investigators say they believe her killing is connected to the alleged murder of 18-year-old Jayden McComber, whose remains were found in a pond along the Caroline County line on March 31, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators now say both victims knew at least one of the alleged killers, but there’s no indication of conflict or dispute between the suspects and McComber or Banks. The killings, however, were allegedly “premeditated and deliberate acts,” per authorities.

It wasn’t immediately clear if McComber and Banks knew each other. Both are being mourned by their loved ones.
