Isadora Wengel (25) missing since 12/31/2025 from Fargo, ND

Police are asking residents across the Fargo-Moorhead metro area to check their security cameras for any sign of a 25-year-old woman missing for two weeks.

At a press conference on Monday, police said they believe the incident involved foul play.
Isadora Wengel was last seen Dec. 31, 2025, near the 900 block of 3 ½ Avenue East in West Fargo. Her father reported seeing her that Wednesday afternoon.

Fargo Police are now expanding their search beyond West Fargo, asking residents and businesses in Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo to review doorbell and security camera footage from Dec. 31 through now.

It’s the latest development in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of 25-year-old Isadora Wengel. She was last seen by her father in Fargo on New Year’s Eve.

Investigators are asking the public in southwest Otter Tail County to check any security cameras, doorbell cameras or trail cameras for video showing the Subaru Impreza between 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

This request includes the cities of Erhard, Elizabeth, Fergus Falls, Underwood, Amor, Battle Lake, Dalton and rural areas in southwest Otter Tail County.

Fargo police arrested a 21-year-old man Tuesday afternoon in connection with the missing persons case of Isadora Wengel, a 25-year-old woman reported missing more than a month ago.

Joshua Alexander Hite was taken into custody at 1:33 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, outside his Fargo apartment without incident. He faces charges of murder and tampering with evidence in Wengel’s case.

Police will provide an update on the investigation during a news conference Wednesday, February 11, at 1:30 p.m.

Fargo police say they believe 25-year-old Isadora Wengel was “heinously murdered” and are asking for the public’s help to recover her body.

Police Chief Dave Zibolski announced Wednesday that investigators have strong evidence linking 21-year-old Joshua Alexander Hite to Wengel’s death, though her body has not been found.
The case could involve potential federal violations if Hite moved Wengel’s body across state lines, Zibolski said.

The investigation has included a 10-day landfill search with 12-hour shifts, search warrants served in Fargo and Otter Tail County, Minnesota, and extensive evidence review.

Police are asking residents to search their properties for a specific type of black tote that was delivered to Hite’s apartment. Authorities believe the tote may be connected to the disposal of Wengel’s body. Zibolski said finding Wengel and the tote are the department’s top priorities for public information.

Police in North Dakota are investigating the suspected murder of 25-year-old Isadora Wengel and believe critical evidence in the case could be found in Minnesota.
According to court documents, investigators seized plastic sheeting, a bathroom mat, bloody gauze and a blade all containing DNA evidence from Hite's residence.

Fargo police are now asking for the public's help in finding a black storage box with a red lid. In a post on Facebook, the department said, "This tote is considered potentially missing evidence possibly related to the disposal of Wengel's remains or other evidence critical to the investigation."

"In order to bring closure and justice to the family, we need to recover Isadora's body," Zibolski said. "And we're going to ask again for the public's assistance in doing so."

Police believe the 27-gallon container could be in Fargo, Moorhead or Otter Tail County in Minnesota, specifically pointing to Fergus Falls, Elizabeth, Underwood and Battle Lake. Investigators are asking homeowners in these areas to search their properties for anything suspicious. Zibolski said it's possible the tote was buried under snow or placed in a low-lying area.

Clearly he is not being forthcoming on where he dumped her body. I wonder what his connection was to Isadora.

Video and forensic evidence suggest that Hite, who was reportedly found with recent cuts to his hands, wrists, knees and thighs, along with bruising on his lower back, attempted to conceal the possible murder while lying to authorities and her family members, according to Valley News Live, citing court documents.

Hite allegedly accessed Wengel's phone from Jan. 4 to Jan. 5 and sent unusual Snapchat photos of ceilings and walls of his apartment to her mother and another contact, the outlet reported. Wengel’s relatives then told investigators that the photos were "odd and not common photographs they would receive from Wengel," according to the documents.

The boyfriend also claimed he saw Wengel Jan. 5 when he allegedly dropped her off at her home. Surveillance footage, however, indicated that Wengel was not in his vehicle at that time, Valley News Live reported.

Officials found disturbing Google searches on Hite’s phone Jan. 4, including "how to register for a legal alias" and "home depot Sawzall," a brand-name high-powered reciprocating saw, documents reportedly said.

A recovered Home Depot receipt dated on the same day also showed the purchase of a Milwaukee Sawzall reciprocating saw, a carbide saw blade, clear plastic sheeting, extra-large trash bags and black duct tape, the outlet continued. Authorities believe the items were delivered by DoorDash at roughly 10:30 a.m. that day.
This dumbass used DoorDash for his murder paraphernalia. He deserves the severest of penalty for doing it and being that stupid.

A judge has ordered two separate mental health examinations for the man charged in the death of Isadora Wengel.

Court documents filed March 16 show Judge Steven McCullough ordered Joshua Alexander Hite to undergo both a competency examination and a criminal responsibility examination at the North Dakota State Hospital.
The competency exam will determine whether Hite is mentally fit to stand trial.

A separate order authorizes a criminal responsibility examination to determine whether Hite lacked the capacity to understand the harmful nature of his alleged actions, or whether he experienced a serious distortion of reality at the time of the crime.

Joshua Hite, the man charged in connection with the death of 25-year-old Isadora Wengel, told investigators in a letter where he disposed of her remains, but a search of the location came up empty, according to court documents.

On Feb. 12, 2026, Hite disclosed in a letter the directions to where he said he left Wengel’s remains. The letter was printed and signed by Joshua Hite.

The directions led investigators to 33919 190th St. in Underwood, Minn., a property belonging to the family of one of Hite’s childhood friends. Wengel’s remains were not found there.
According to the search warrants, Hite told investigators that most of Wengel’s remains were wrapped in plastic and placed in a black tote with a red lid. He said he used zip ties to secure the lid.

Hite told investigators the remainder of Wengel’s legs were placed in a garbage bag and disposed of in a dumpster at Beach Bums, a bar in Battle Lake, Minn. He said Wengel’s personal belongings and the Sawzall tool were also placed in that dumpster.

Investigators are also investigating a Snapchat group involving Hite and the aforementioned childhood friend. According to search warrants, the thread includes messages like “Ok well y’all might need to vouch for the homie.” and “Ya was anyone with me on the 7th?”

The preliminary hearing for a Fargo man charged with murdering Isadora Wengel has been pushed back for the third time.

Court documents filed June 9, 2026, show Joshua Alexander Hite’s defense attorneys requested the continuance because assigned Judge Steven E. McCullough was not scheduled to preside over the June 19 hearing.

Hite, 21, is now due back in Cass County District Court on July 15, 2026, at 9 a.m. for his preliminary hearing.

A Fargo man charged in connection with the disappearance and death of Isadora Wengel was back in court Wednesday for his preliminary hearing in Cass County District Court.

Joshua Alexander Hite, 21, appeared in person with his attorneys and entered not guilty pleas to all three charges against him: murder, tampering with physical evidence, and providing false information to law enforcement.
Hite’s bond remains set at $5 million, cash-only.

Hite’s next court date is a felony dispositional conference set for Sept. 3, 2026, though his defense attorneys have indicated they expect to file for a continuance before that hearing.
