A young child is recovering from serious injuries following an early morning incident in the small community of Quadeville, southeast of Barry’s Bay on June 24.

Barry's Bay is on Highway 60, east of Huntsville in Algonquin Park.

Police are continuing to investigate an incident.

On Tuesday, June 24, at 12:30 a.m., OPP officers responded to reports that a child had been found at a location along Quadeville Road, suffering from serious injuries.

The child was taken to the hospital and later to a regional trauma centre. The child remains in serious but stable condition.

Investigators are continuing efforts to identify the cause of the attack in consultation with the MNR and experts in animal attacks.

As part of the investigation, police are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a potential witness who was in the Quadeville area before the incident. This individual is not a subject of the investigation but may have information that could assist the case.

    His description is as follows:

    Male in his 60s
    Grey and white hair
    Possibly with white facial hair
Last seen wearing a black leather jacket with a white motorcycle helmet
Owns a grey or black motorcycle described as a Ducati or Suzuki-style
Used to live in the Killaloe or Bonnechere Valley area
    Possibly from the United States

Parents in the Quadeville area are encouraged to remain vigilant and keep their small children under close supervision while outdoors. Animal traps have been set in the Quadeville area by the MNR as a precautionary measure.

The OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation and working with the MNR, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services and Emergency Response Team.

If you have any information or relevant doorbell or surveillance video that could help investigators, please call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Turns out it was not an animal after all. A 17 year old human viciously attacked this poor little girl. FFS humans are terrible.

A 17-year-old male from Eastern Ontario has been charged with attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon in connection with an attack on an eight-year-old girl at Quadeville, the Ontario Provincial Police said Wednesday night.

The OPP release also said that the youth remained in custody and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

The investigation began shortly after 9 p.m. on June 24, when officers with the OPP’s Upper Ottawa Valley detachment as well as the OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Units responded to a report of a missing child in Quadeville, southeast of Barry’s Bay and about 165 kilometres west of Ottawa.

The canine unit located the eight-year-old just before 12:30 a.m. on June 25, 2025. The child, who had life-threatening injuries, was transported to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa and, police said Wednesday night, remains under the care of medical professionals.

The cause of the victim’s injuries was initially unclear, police said in the release. While early evidence suggested a possible animal attack, multiple pathology experts were consulted as part of the investigation, and recent testing of samples taken from the victim’s wounds revealed no traces of animal DNA, the OPP added.

The 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday. His identity is protected by provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police advised residents in the Quadeville area to keep children indoors or under close supervision earlier this week after an animal attack.

The eight-year-old girl cannot be named, either.

Wednesday evening’s media release said the OPP planned to conduct a townhall meeting at Quadeville on Saturday, July 12, with more details about time and location to be provided before then.

“The OPP acknowledges the community’s concerns regarding this incident and sincerely appreciates the public’s patience as the investigation progresses,” the release said.

Police asked anyone with information or relevant doorbell or surveillance video that could help investigators in the case to call the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous calls can be made to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

OMG I don't even want to know what her injuries looked like if they thought an ANIMAL had done it.

Found a GFM and I am curious because it names the family, the victim included, but calls the adults "guardians" and not parents.

Wondering if this is a foster family and the perp is one of the foster kids.

Good lawd, why does this one update irk me beyond words? It's all about them and, oh yeah, some money will be put towards the actual victim.

We would like to set some minds at ease regarding the distribution of these funds. Maya's guardians, Robert and Gerri Bard, will receive (after GoFundMe transaction fees are deducted) all proceeds from this fundraiser through the beneficiary, Quadeville Pentecostal Church, a registered Canadian charity. The word 'beneficiary' does not, in any way, mean that the church will benefit from this fundraiser. Funds received will be used for the family's fuel, food, lodging expenses, and anything Maya needs for comfort or related to Maya's recovery at CHEO. In the spirit of transparency, receipts from the disbursement of funds to QPC will be available to anyone who requests to view them. Again, thank you for supporting Maya and her family during this very difficult time.

    And this one. WTF????

We are almost half way to our goal of $5,500! On behalf of Rob and Gerri Bard, Neveah, Savannah, Carson, and of course the sweet Maya, we want to thank you from the bottom of our collective heart for your kind and caring generosity. God bless you with the abundance of heaven!

This makes me laugh from the GFM "the word 'beneficiary' does not, in any way, mean that the church will benefit from this fundraiser." That is literally, EXACTLY what the word beneficiary means.

I just hope money goes towards the child. Shes going to have physical wounds, but that will pale in comparison to her mental trauma.

I really hope they lock this monster up for life.

I have been doing some digging and believe this is the guardian of the little girl: https://www.facebook.com/robert.bard.716

Here's the church/cult who are the beneficiaries for the GoFundMe but are not the beneficiaries: https://www.facebook.com/eodpaoc

    Potential resolution discussed??!

    https://www.insideottawavalley.com/n...6655c499d.html

A teen boy charged in connection with a 2025 attack on an eight-year-old girl in the rural community of Quadeville appeared in the Superior Court of Justice in Pembroke on Thursday, July 9, as legal teams explore a potential resolution to the case.

The accused, who was 17 at the time of his arrest, faces charges of attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon. These charges have not been proven in court.

The identity of the teen is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and a publication ban is in place to protect the identity of the victim.

The girl was reported missing on the evening of June 23, 2025. She was later found with severe injuries following a three-and-a-half-hour search by the OPP’s Upper Ottawa Valley detachment, along with the OPP Canine Unit, and supported by the County of Renfrew Paramedic Service and the Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Fire Department.

While the investigators initially suspected an animal attack, forensic analysis found no evidence of animal DNA, shifting the focus of the investigation to human involvement. The teen was arrested on July 8, 2025.

On Thursday, during a case status review, the court heard the defence and the Crown are currently involved in resolution discussions. A proposal has been submitted to the regional Crown’s office for approval, a process expected to take about two weeks. No additional details on the possible resolution are available

In a previous court session, trial dates were set for 2027.

    The teen remains in custody.
