I haven't deleted social media, but I have deleted Facebook from my phone. I feel so free! If I want to use FB I now have to sit at my desk and use my PC.

I haven't done this yet. Mainly because I can't stand the PC version of the app and because it's just too convenient for me when I'm video calling family and friends on there
I should REALLY delete Twitter. It's such a cesspool on there, but part of me feels the responsibility to show the knuckledraggers that they aren't just in some echo chamber and that most of society knows that they're bottom feeders.
I have Twitter and Instagram, but I rarely use either. They're both on my phone.
I kept Facebook Messenger on there because that's how I get calls from some people. I just got fed up with Facebook and mostly myself for reading stupid, stupid comments about everything. Not just politics, but everything else, too - music, books, and all of that. I've found that it's a cesspool of people just shitting on each other and everything they don't like. I am so sick of that.

Yeah, well. Instagram is the same company and try looking up #democrat right now. Now try looking up #CNN. Now try looking up #Fox. Now try looking up #Nazi. Yeah.
It's all going down, folks. I'm hoping that people have the sense to come back here since it's not being censored and under META Trump control.
So, about a week ago I took all social media apps off of my phone. My intention was that I would only access them via my desktop PC.
This has resulted in a much better frame of mind for me. I actually feel smarter and less angry. I was pretty much pissed off all of the time because everything I'd read on Facebook, etc, caused me to feel so much rage at the world around me.
What triggered this move for myself was the show Starfleet Academy - that beautiful new Star Trek show. I was hoping to engage in good conversation about it (yeah, what was I thinking?) and instead found SO MUCH hatred for it because of its progrssive themes. I know, right - Star Trek, progressive? Who'd have thunk it?
Instead of flinging my phone and ipad into the river, I just deleted all of those apps. I don't even think I've been on social media in the last week, aside from Substack which I love because I can commune with other writers there (I'm back in school heading toward my MFA in Creative Writing so that's a good spot for me to be).
This has proved to me that social media is virtually uneccessary in my life. No more doom scrolling - I spend my time now on my back patio (weather permitting) and in my chair reading and writing and focusing on the important things in my life.

So glad for you! I have been meaning to try this - all the political shit gets my blood boiling, and it's always all over FB - but the habit is hard to break. Though, I have been going on it less. Mostly I use it to browse marketplace, and yesterday I posted a bunch of listings (so I have to stay on it).
Speaking of, does anyone sell things on marketplace? I noticed the last few months, my "clicks" and "saves" have gone WAY down. Like almost zero. I also used to get lots of messages when I posted stuff, and now I have gotten NONE. It's super odd - and I guess I'm not the only one. When I googled, I found a bunch of people saing the exact same thing. Very frustrating as I would like to sell my stuff!
Good for you! I am so happy to hear you are back to your writing.
I have no social media on my phone; the only time I really go on FB is when I am searching for victims/perpetrators that we post about here on MDS. Occasionally I will look at FB over the weekend to see what my friends/family are up to; otherwise, I am not very active on it.
Facebook is a cesspool of awful. It's basically people btching about how they hate everything and everyone, and ads. Also, AI garbage. I find absoutely no value in it any longer.

If you are friends with me on fb, you know I mostly post lost dogs and cats![]()
I had to unfriend a completely vapid person. Its my son's friends mom. She photoshops all of her pictures and says how pretty she is.
My shelter, my son's school, and the lost/found pets are all important to me so I keep it. Or else it would be gone.
I went to see Nick Offerman this past SUnday night, and he talked a lot about social media, devices, etc. It really resonated with me. Put down the device and actually be with people, that was his point. He's spot on.
I like places like this site because here we have real conversations about real things. Message boards are the way to go.
There is so much knowledge on the internet, yet we don't use it for that. We use it to make fake AI images and yell at each other about things we should be able to talk about in intelligent, honest ways.
Angie - I love that you use social media for all the right reasons. You're one of those that should stay on there and keep using it that way because what you're doing is so positive. (ANything that does good for animals is of the highest importance to me).

I deleted FB last September and I don't miss it at all. The only thing I ever look at is Reddit.
I have deactivated Facebook, Instagram and that useless Google Threads.
I feel like I have been just granted ny release from the torturous gulag that is social media. This time, I will be strong and not return.
