Disagree! They have taken their brain dead daughter on a ventilator to a facility run by a hairdresser--that's the joke right there. All we are doing is commenting on it.

I think these parents are being given a lot of false hope and everyone seems to havea difference in opinion on brain death and all that.
I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. I mean if my child were in this situationi would be lost with all the different medical opinions flying by me. I would hope thati would be able to make the right decision tho to let my child pass and knowi did the right thing.
The lawyer is doing this for media attention and leading this poor family grasping at straws.
I'm hoping that someone else will step in here in this situation and really get this family to understand.
They are hoping for a miracle and they seriously cannot let go.
I find that painfully tragic and upsetting.
I just don't find the humor but to each their own.

Jahi is basically slowly disintegrating. It sounds like she has a respiratory infection (totally expected) and apparently suffered some bowel ischemia during the arrest. You can read the details in the PDF, it's pretty gross. If she does have necrotic bowel happening, not only will she NOT be able to be tube fed, she will become massively septic in the next few days. I wonder how aggressive this mystery facility will be in their treatment?

That document is sad because now they are not only holding out for a miracle but they are going to see her slowly decompose.
One of these judges need to step in ASAP and pull the vent.
I think the longer this goes on, the more the parents are going to hurt but also end up blaming the wrong people and this whole thing tying up the courts with lawsuit after lawsuit.

They gave her a date of death, she's gone.

It's a shame the hospital doesn't have surveillance cameras in the rooms because I wouldn't doubt the Family snuck in solid food to her and it would show what the Grandmother did do (if anything). Between Mom feeling guilty, her obvious eating habits and the Family seeming to resist anything the hospital says I would bet my bottom dollar that SOMETHING happened to cause the bleed out. I could be completely wrong. But it definitely wouldn't surprise me.

She just as easily could have coughed or sneezed and ripped some stitches, no?

There are just too many rumors (everywhere ... not just here) about what the family did to harm Jahi. They can't all be true! IMO, it's just getting piled on a little thick:

- The family gave her a popsicle, hamburger or other solid food.
- The family was encouraging or allowing her to talk/laugh.
- The family has a history of bleeding problems but didn't tell the doctors.
- The family was over-suctioning. (In court documents, btw, the family claims Jahi was already bleeding very badly when the nurse brought a suction device. Whether or not that's accurate, IDK.)



It's not much different than the family's supporters PILING it on the hospital:

- Everyone knew the surgery was botched, but nobody cared!
- The hospital declared her brain dead so they could harvest her organs!
- They wanted to stop the ventilator so no outside doctors could examine her and find out the hospital fucked up!
- The hospital tried to starve her to death to so they would only have to pay $250,000 for malpractice instead of paying for a lifetime of care!

It's true that the speculation is out of control on both sides. That's a fact.

I only said that it wouldn't surprise me. How many times do you see people smuggle "real food" in to the hospital for patients? It's a common practice. Granted, not as common for people who have had throat surgery. But they've kinda proven they aren't exactly common either. It's just one of many possibilities to ponder.

I have four children who I absolutely believe I love more than any parent has ever loved any child, so I understand being devastated that your child has died and having a hard time accepting it, but this is fucking gross. Her mother, Nailah Winkfield, left the hospital with her daughter just before 8 p.m. Sunday in a "tense, but smooth" transfer that took between 45 minutes to an hour, Dolan said. The hospital turned Jahi over to the Alameda County Coroner's Office, which has issued a death certificate, and the coroner then relinquished custody to her family.
"The only thing I can equate it to is a hostage negotiation," Dolan said. "As soon as we would get one obstacle cleared, another obstacle would appear."


During a news conference Monday morning, Dolan confirmed that Jahi was now "safely where she needs to be," in a facility where she's receiving nutritional support, including potassium, minerals and hormones. She's also getting antibiotics to combat possible infection that Dolan said she may have suffered while at Children's Hospital. Dolan said that, because of physical issues with Jahi's body, procedures to insert feeding and tracheotomy tubes were not performed.

Sealey also said the family was relieved, grateful and happy that Jahi had been moved and added that although the family believes she is still alive, they will only come to terms with death if her other organs fail.
"We're not going to play God," Sealey said. "If her heart stops beating while she's hooked to the ventilator, we can accept that."

Dolan said they had commitments from two facilities on Sunday but by the afternoon one of them had dropped out.
In all, he said, five facilities came forward to accept Jahi -- most of them changing their minds for various reasons. Some facilities indicated that they did not want to deal with the amount of media attention her story has attracted, Dolan said.

Alameda County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson said that while he does not know where Jahi was relocated, it was his understanding that she was taken out of the state. He said that as part of the standing court order and an agreement with the Coroner's Office, Jahi's body would have to be returned to the Alameda County coroner's office in the event her heart stops beating.
Nelson noted that the autopsy will be required to complete the existing death certificate, and added that Jahi's cause of death will be more difficult to determine the longer her body is kept on a ventilator.
"As time goes on, things change in the body," Nelson said. "Had she gone to the coroner's office on the 12th or 13th, we certainly would have had an easier time finding a cause of death. Not to say a cause of death can't be found, but it will certainly become more difficult as time progresses."

I think you are right.
I don't think the mom is evil- I just think she wants her daughter moved somewhere else. Maybe she can accept Jahi's death a little easier knowing that she is not at Children's hospital anymore??

After reading this story for a few weeks now...I really just believe that the mom lost all faith in anything that the hospital was telling her about Jahi. Right or wrong, doesn't matter. The mom feels the hospital caused this. She doesn't trust them at all. I can't believe for one second that she doesn't see what's happening to her daughter's body.

If I were a good at guessing, I would guess that I think Jahi will finally be laid to peace within the next couple of days. I think maybe mom wanted to get her somewhere where she can finally take a deep breath.....and make a hard decision. She has used all her energy not to decide on a hard decision for several weeks b/c she's been fighting- but now she will have a moment where there is no fighting anybody. She won. Now she has to make a choice. There is no putting it off any longer. (I hope that makes sense)

If you've never seen sepsis in somebody, I can tell you from experience......it's the most awful thing to see.

It screams media circus all over the place. I imagine just from what berm posted, the family is really starting to point fingers at the hospital.
I just see a long court process from all this.
Her poor little body is just going to waste away and that's the last memory they will have of her.

EXACTLY this. #1 perpetrator: Dr. Paul "she can recover from this" Byrne. The parents have a real bona-fide pediatrician telling them this, of course they believe him. What parent wouldn't?

Byrne is even worse than Dolan IMO. Dolan is a lay person and is going to believe the nutcase Byrne...he doesn't know any better and neither do the parents. Byrne was in CA for several days before Jahi's transfer took place, personally orchestrating it--Dolan said that in the press conference yesterday. How this guy still has a faculty position in that Toledo medical school I have NO idea.

Byrne and the Teri Schiavo Foundation are shamelessly milking this for publicity and $$. Jahi is their new poster child and a fundraising goldmine. The whole thing just turns my stomach.

This is kind of where I'm at right now too. Like I said. I wouldn't have joked 2 weeks ago or even a week ago. But almost a month in, multiple doctors & nurses & professionals working with you to help get though to you that she's died later.....it's hard for me to believe they don't understand the situation. Even the Grandmother is a nurse. Short of drinking the kool aid they have to know and are denying this girl any bit of dignity. And in the process they are hurting the public by making others question brain death so that organs go un-donated. It's gotten to the point that is actually perverse.
